01. Yoonji (1/1)
*Beep beep beep beep*Her alarm blared loudly as she groggily got up and checked the time it was 6:10PM, she had about 50 minutes to get ready for her 7:00 shift. But her 450 thread count sheets just felt too good to leave, she had managed to save up money and splurged on her bed sheets. If she was going to be spending at least 12 hours on them, then she decided that they had better be frickin’ comfortable.She sighed to herself, dragging her body out of bed and getting down to business. She turned off her alarm and reset it for tomorrow, for her usual shift yet again. She had been working too many days in a row lately, she was lucky she didn’t need to eat or drink a lot. She probably would have passed out from exhaustion by now. But her body never really needed food for a long time, she just needed the bags from the blood bank. Usually, when she was off, she slept more than this, she wouldn’t be awake until the sun was completely down and the sky was dark, any earlier and it would be physically draining to move. But she had to get out and move about. She grabbed some clothes and headed for the shower, she had to clean herself off from the night before. She had forgotten to shower and ended up past out on her bed. It was not something she liked to do, because now she would have to wash her sheets before sleeping on them again. She watched her hair since it probably smelled of food from the night before, she took up her lavender body wash and lathered her body up. It was still unnerving when she looked at herself int he shower, her skin was snow white, which was normal in Seoul, but to her, she missed her tan all those years ago. She wished she could go to the beach once again and just soak up the sun.But that was impossible now. She couldn’t do that anymore, but she still wished. They were doomed for life now, she had to accept it. She got out of the shower and dried herself off, then got dressed for work. She put on her uniform, her black slacks and white dress shirt and left the apartment. She couldn’t be late, but she could feel her strength waning. It would get better once the sun was down but it was still 20 minutes until that happened. She looked around her small apartment, it had one room, which housed her bed and her closet, a small kitchen that she rarely cooked on, and one bathroom of which she only showered in. But it was clean enough for her and she was happy with it. She had requested air conditioning a while back, but then she found out that the windows were like huge doors and she just needed to keep one open to have cool air at night. She also had long burgundy drapes that hid herself from the rest of the world. It wasn’t the penthouse suite but it was high enough to avoid detection. She closed the door behind and headed down the elevator.She left her building and walked to the restaurants making sure to avoid the sunlight, she didn’t want to pass out at work just because she wasn’t cautious enough. She slipped in through the back door and saw that her boss was already waiting for her. She stood with her arms crossed over her chest, and a smirk on her face. She was in front of the kitchen window with her hair tied back.“You’re early, Yoonji.” Aya cooed. “You can start early then.” She told her, handing Yoonji her apron and set her right to work. “Go take table 9’s order and then come back and deliver the creme brûlée to table 7.” She ordered her before moving back to her POS system to keep order in the restaurant.“Yes, boss.” Yoonji said, saluting her playfully and then grabbed her notepad and took the orders. She had one full course meal for two and then grabbed the creme brûlée and the blow torch, taking it to the table. She moved past another table and saw a redhead and blonde guy sitting across from each other. She rolled her eyes, she didn’t really understand why people on dates sat across form each other. If they were a couple, wouldn’t they want to sit beside each other and hold hands and stuff? She burned the sugar on top of the custard in front of the guests and they awed in amazement. She handed them two spoons as they were on a date as well and put the blow torch back in the kitchen. She moved to wait on other tables as well. The Spice restaurant, where she worked, was well-known for its pastries because of the world famous pastry chef that was working in the back. It was rumored that she was good at making any dessert, she only had to taste it once and she would be able to recreate it in her kitchen. Yoonji had never met her before though, she never came out into the dining room to greet guests, nor did she look at any of the wait staff. Yoonji always assumed it was because she thought it was beneath her to do so.She saw that her order was up and delivered it to redhead’s table, she didn’t stick around long enough to give them any notice. They both ate happily as she moved around the room to make sure everyone was okay. She was used to seeing famous people walk through the doors, so she was over the shell shock at this point.Finally, she noticed one of her other co-workers clocking in. “I thought you weren’t going to make it today, Yumi.” Yoonji nudged her friend, grinning. The girl had her hazel hair tied up in a ponytail and her eyes scrunched shut.Yumi clutched her temples and groaned, “Don’t bother me today, Yoonji. Aya is going to kill me for being this hungover.” She grumbled unhappily. She hit Yoonji lightly before clutching her head again, moving too much would hurt her.“Why did you drink so much last night in the first place?” Yoonji asked her, handing the girl her black apron and notepad. They were out by the kitchen window again, but their manager was nowhere to be found. They wouldn’t get in trouble for chatting now.“Aya encouraged me to, she made me take tequila shots with her.” Yumi admitted sadly, “We went out after the shift last night to Bar 21.” “Wow, so you were drinking with the boss and she forced you to get wasted. Good job on you, Yumi.” Yoonji said, patronizing her. “I’ll pick up your slack today, just make sure you give me some of your tips.” She said, still moving around the room to cover her section as well as Yumi’s.The night was long but as the moon rose, Yoonji felt her strength growing. It was easier to be more energetic and upbeat when handling a customer, even those drunk businessmen that kept trying to touch her ass. She let out a sigh of relief when she saw a familiar pale skinned person walk through the double doors. “Good evening and what can I get for you today, Miss Hyorin?” She greeted politely but this girl was her friend. She was with yet another rich man, but that was part of her job description. They sat on one of the tables by the window in Yumi’s section.“Just a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon and an order of filet mignon.” Hyorin answered sweetly, “And you, Mr. Lee?” She handed her menu to Yoonji and they shared a knowing smile.He smiled at her, reaching for her hand, “I would like a porterhouse steak, rare, please.” He answered, not taking his eyes off Hyorin. He was older than her usual type, but even then he looked like he was only in his 30s. “Very well, sir. You have a rare porterhouse steak, and Miss Hyorin has a filet mignon, medium and a glass of cabernet sauvignon.” Yoonji repeated and took their menus from them, leaving behind the dessert menus. But the two of them were already in the middle of discussing something.She ignored her friend and sighed sadly. She would never be able to handle Hyorin’s job but she could at least feed her. They had both lost in the fall, and now Yoonji was repenting, while Hyorin was living it up.Author's Note;;
