Prologue (1/1)
It had taken them all away. They had a problem with the Black Death, they were all living in England at the time of the breakout. They had to avoid going out too often, they didn’t want to catch it. Any breath of air that contained it would result in their death within the week. There was nothing that could stop it, young, old, rich, poor. The disease didn't discriminate and there was no cure.A group of them decided to hide out in the church, they felt that God had betrayed their families, their devout families. They had nothing left, their parents, siblings, neighbors, all caught the cold. Nowhere else to go, they went to the one place they knew, church.They huddled together to try and keep everyone's body heat close to each other. But of course, they couldn't stay too close. There were rules and social gestures that had to be followed. Lower class, upper class, male, female, all of them were just there to survive.Several of them prayed as the days past, they prayed every hour, every day, whenever they could. They had hoped that God would answer their prayers at least, spare them from the disease. They wanted to live out their lives, they would do anything for it. Anything, for just a chance to be spared.On the last day, when their food ran out, a man walked through their church. He had porcelain skin and blue eyes, he was literally as white as a ghost. As if he hadn’t seen sunlight in ages.He gave them a grin as he approached them, he carried a briefcase and a bottle. They all looked at him cautiously, "Who are you?" They asked him."An answer to your prayers." He said suavely. He was very charming, they shouldn't have listened to him at the time, but they didn't know any better."How? We just ran out of food, how can you help us?" Elizabeth asked him, she was irritable given the lack of rations. She was used to eating so much more than just one potato."This." He said, lifting his briefcase up onto the podium and clicking the locks open. Inside he revealed 9 syringes, "This is the cure to the Black Death.""How? How did they find a cure? Why now? After so many people have died?" Sebastian inquired. He knew enough about medicine to know it would have taken a long time to develop a cure to this disease."We had to make some sacrifices but in the end, we made it." He told him, "Please refer to me as Abraham, by the way.""When can we get the cure?" Katharine asked him.Abraham smiled, "Right now, if you'd like. I can administer the shots to you right now. And then we can celebrate with some wine." He said, holding up the bottle in his other hand."There's only 9 shots in there, what about the rest of the population?" William asked, "What about the women and children?""This cure isn't suitable for them, this one is for your age group. There is another one for them to take, my colleagues are administering it now." Abraham told them.After that, all of them rolled up their sleeves, eager to be saved. He injected the shot into their artery directly and they felt the fire shoot through their veins. It made them feel alive again, they finally felt like they could breathe again. They were no longer threatened by the disease that had taken their families.Abraham smirked at them, “Well, now we must celebrate right? Just remember that you might feel a side effect later, your bodies will feel like they’re burning, as if they were on fire, but that’s nothing to worry about.” He told them.“Very well.” Diana said. She gave Abraham the 9 glasses she could find in the church and he poured out the wine for all of them.He raised the wine bottle and they all followed suit, holding up their glasses. He didn’t miss any of the side glances people took, “To a new life, free from the Black Death.” He toasted and they all gulped down the wine. It had been a long time since they had the luxury of drinking.Madeleine made a face as the wine slid down her throat. “Does it taste weird to anyone?” She asked them.“You simply don’t know what good wine actually tastes like, commoner.” Elizabeth told her haughtily.Nathaniel shot her a look, “I agree with Madeleine, it does seem a bit funny.” He said and after that there was a discussion as to the taste of the red wine. They all talked about how it had a weird aftertaste and that they had never drank wine like that before. Even the rich ones.“Hey, wait guys, where’s Abraham?” Benjamin pointed out.They all looked around and Abraham, the wine, and his briefcase were gone. As if he vanished into thin air.“Aghhh..” Madeleine groaned before she started convulsing on the floor. “Madeleine!” Nathaniel shouted, reaching out to her, holding her head up. But it wasn’t long before he was shaking on the ground as well. All nine of them had collapsed as their bodies burned. It ravaged their skin, it made it hard to breathe, they couldn’t grasp oxygen. Without it, all of their brains collapsed.Madeleine woke first and blinked her eyes repeatedly before looking at her surroundings. She was in town all of a sudden, magically it had happened somehow. She noticed that Nathaniel, Katharine and Benjamin were with her.Immediately, she started searching for a reflective surface, she wanted to see how she had gotten there. Walking around there was a glass window of an empty store. She saw the others were on the ground in front of it. She looked at herself and saw that she now had blue eyes.She had the pale skin tone that Abraham had. She bit her lip and felt a prick, looking at it, she noticed it was bleeding. She smiled and saw that she had two sharp fangs now, that didn’t make any sense. What had happened to them?She gasped when she saw another man in the reflection, she turned and snarled at him on instinct. She covered her mouth in shock after she finished. The man gave her a glare, “You are all a bunch of idiots.” He said.“Who are you to call us idiots?” Madeleine shouted at him. He wore a suit but she could see that he felt superior to her. He shouldn’t have, he was no better than she was.“Daniel, servant of God.” He said, bowing his head just slightly. “You were all supposed to have died last night. You have escaped Death and now this is your punishment. You will roam Earth forever, no longer able to access Heaven nor Hell. You serve Lucifer now, you traitors.” And that was when infinity was truly defined for us. We had no idea just how horrific a life it would actually be.Author's Note;;
