Chapter 9 (1/1)

I sighed in defeat as I looked out the window. That tree was too big to move. There was no way you could get in or out. I looked at Yongguk who gave me a mocking pout. "What? Ready to get rid of me already, Channie?"There he goes with the fucking Channie. I should throw myself off a cliff, but when he said it, it made my heart flutter. I tried to hold back the smile that was just dying to show, but I coughed awkwardly instead. "Uhm. No. It's just that if they find you here we're both going to be in trouble."I looked away to get away from his annoyingly piercing gaze and he hummed. "Hmm. True. Then again, I doubt that's going to happen."I just gave him a look. Yongguk didn't have a clue. "Himchannie. Can I ask you something?" I really need him to stop with these cute nicknames. Jongup doesn't even call me Himchannie. Thank fuck it was dark so Yongguk couldn't see my blush."What is it?" He patted down on the empty seat next to him. I shrugged and sat next to him. "Yes?" I asked again. He leaned in to get a better look at me, causing me to lean back again. "Why did your dad go to prison? When people asked him, he always changed his story.""What did he tell you he did?" I asked as I looked at Yongguk, keeping eye contact. "Lots of things. Like robbing a bank, got caught selling drugs, stealing jewelry, etc." I felt my anger build higher and higher with each lie Yongguk told me that bastard said.Yongguk must have noticed because I felt a warm, soft hand land on top of mine, instantly melting some of my anger away. "What really happened Himchan?"I took a deep breath before I began. "Well. When I was nineteen, he told me that I had to take over his job. In the mafia. I had absolutely no interest in that world at all. I hated his job because it made him all-around a horrible person. Me and my mom hardly ever saw him because of it and when we did, he barely talked.""My parents always fought, but overtime, the fighting got much worse. My father took his anger out on me." I sighed again and closing my eyes, trying to calm myself as the memories rushed back. I felt Yongguk give my hand a small squeeze. I opened my eyes to look at him and he was giving me warm smile. I sighed again before continuing."My mother had always had bad health and one day, she died. Obviously, that was a devastating day for me...but not so much for my father. He said that he apparently saw it coming.""As the days went on, my hatred continued to grow. He was barely ever home and wasn't paying bills or getting food. I had to get four jobs to pay them and feed myself." I took a deep breath."One night he came home and told me that I had to get dressed and to wear black. He told me that he had to train me to make me take over for him at his job and I kept telling him that I didn't want that life, but he wouldn't listen. So he made me.""It was late at night and we drove to an abandoned building. I've never seen it in my life and he handed me a gun. He always said that I wasn't man enough to do shit, but you can't really blame me when I tell you that I've never been so scared in my life." Yongguk nodded and I went on."We were walking down an ally and he never told me what we were doing once. He just told me that if the people we were meeting started to threaten us, then that's when every man is for himself. I remember that I was shaking really bad.""We were standing in the dark for a while until my dad this weird, special whistle. Soon after that, these three terrifying men came out of the shadows. It was like they came out of fucking nowhere!""They were talking to my dad and I was too busy freaking out to really pay attention to what they were actually saying, but one of the men shot their gun in the air and I jumped back from impulse. All of the men laughed at me and my father. He looked so pissed off and disappointed at me for doing what I would think is fucking normal.""My dad punched one of the guys in the face and they all started brawling. My dad may have been beating ass, but they had an extra person. That guy came up behind me and had pinned me down and gave me a black eye.""I ended up getting out of his grasp and I hid behind a dumpster that was nearby. My dad shot one of the guys and just... it was terrible. When the cops arrived, they took all the guys and my dad. I'm so happy that they didn't find me..."When I looked up at Yongguk, his expression was so sympathetically sincere that it broke my heart a little. "Himchan... that's horrible."I nodded slowly, silently cursing when I felt a lump forming in my throat. I didn't want to cry in front of Yongguk so I tried to convert my sadness into anger. "I'm telling you. He is a real ass.""He's worse than that. I can't understand why anyone would want to put you through that." Yongguk gave me a comforting smile before going on. "You don't have to deal with anymore now. With his luck, I bet they already got him. He isn't all that smart anyway. After all, I was the one that came up with the escape plan." I gave him a weak nod."Yeah, I guess. You're the only person I've told. Besides Jongup. He's my bestfriend." I gave him a sincere smile at the mention of Jongup, but that changed when I saw a weird expression flash in his eyes. "You guys are close, huh?""Yeah. He helped me when my father wasn't there...he means a lot to me." A confused look cross my features when Yongguk stood up abruptly and started heading for the kitchen. "Huh. Well that's good." "Wha-?" I began, but he cut me off. "I'm thirsty."
