Chapter Two. (1/1)

“Hey, Taemin this is my dad…” Jongin trailed off when he looked across at Taemin who didn’t seem to be listening. “Taemin?” he still didn’t answer, just staring at the man in front of them “Hey” he snapped his fingers in front of Taemin’s face and finally Taemin blinked back to reality.“Oh-uh sorry” he laughed lightly “I uh- I just remembered my dad needed help with something, I’ll see you guys around” and without a proper goodbye he turned around and ran down the hallway, out the doors and across the school grounds. It wasn’t until he couldn’t see the school behind him anymore that he slowed down.So maybe finding his parents wasn’t the best idea anymore.Maybe it wasn’t ever the best idea.Or a good idea at the least.Taemin just wanted to crawl under a rock and stay there forever. He’d made a huge mistake going out, changing  schools just to catch a glimpse of who his father is, because he knew that now he’d found them, he wouldn’t just be able to forget and leave.He’d stay, telling himself it was a good idea.Even though it really wasn’t.However his plans of getting home and going straight to his room were made impossible when he saw his father in the kitchen trying to cook dinner, the blank look that Taemin hadn’t seen in a while was on his face. Taemin sighed, wondering what could have happened today that would bring that look he hated seeing back. He could tell Hyukjae didn’t really know what he was doing right now, so he thought rather than letting the house burn down in his father’s hands, Taemin was better off helping him.“Hey dad, let me help you” Taemin smiled and took the tongs from Hyukjae’s hand, pushing him softly to the side so that he could still see, but so that Taemin could finish cooking the few pieces of meat in the pan.“Thanks Tae” his dad said quietly and Taemin sighed. His life had changed so much since Donghae had left them. Instead of Hyukjae being the father Taemin could always depend on, he had almost turned into the one that needed looking after.After Taemin had finished cooking dinner and put it on the table the two sat in silence for a while, just eating. This is how they spent their nights these days. The once loud and cheerful dinner table had turned into one of the dead.Hyukjae surprised Taemin by interrupting the silence though.“So.. Taemin. There’s something I need to talk to you about” he said nervously and Taemin just nodded, he couldn’t even have guessed what would be said next “I’m really sorry, I’m so sorry that you’re suffering because of me” tears came to his father’s eyes as he continued “I realise now that it wasn’t just me that was suffering, I don’t know.. I just didn’t think about how you would be feeling after all this time. I haven’t even told you what happened and with.. him gone… I haven’t been around like a proper dad should be. I’ve been a depressed mess, but somehow I’ve realised that and I’m getting better Taemin. I promise, I’m going to try so hard for you”Taemin has no idea what had brought this on, but he didn’t care. He was happy, he hadn’t felt this happy in a long time and he forgot what it was like to smile so widely that his cheeks hurt. “Thanks dad” he whispered and they finished their dinner, with occasional chat about Taemin’s first day at his new school, Taemin talking about his homeroom teacher and the boy, Kim Jongin that he met, of course leaving out the details of who they were. There was no need to hurt his father who was trying to recover from one heart already broken with the mistake he had already regretted making.After meeting Jongin, he knew he couldn’t mess up that family with his issues which became less existent after his father’s speech at dinner time.Jongin seemed happy with his life the way it was.Taemin didn’t want to ruin that.By the time he had finished the dishes, Taemin was exhausted so he bid his father goodnight and went to bed, hoping that the scene he had created yesterday by running off on both Heechul and Jongin wouldn’t prove to be too major by tomorrow.To Be ContinuedA/N: This is such a short chapter, I know but I'm uploading the next one later tonight. It's slow but sort of important so I just wanted to get it out of the way.
