Lee Taemin walked into his new classroom, timetable in hand and a blank stare on his face, that was until teacher Kim Heechul turned around and faced him, that blank look turned into one of surprise. He never expected to be face to face with this man on the first morning of his first day at his new school. The teacher in front of him mirrored his shocked face perfectly, both sets of full lips forming almost perfectly round o’s.The stare only held for a few seconds before Heechul remembered where they were, he broke the gaze, clapped his hands together and turned to the rest of the class.“Right this is, Lee Taemin” it was as if he choked the surname out, unsure of what he was saying, whether he wanted to believe it. He then turned to Taemin without meeting his eyes and beckoned him forward.Taemin bowed “Hello, my name is Lee Taemin. Please look after me” and with the pleasantries over, Taemin was directed to a spare seat where he spent the rest of the lesson gawking at his teacher. Most seventeen year olds worry about what they’ll do when they finish school, what courses they’re going to take, what jobs they’ll get, the money they’ll earn the places they’ll live. Right now Taemin was worrying about how insane he must be, attending a new school, dealing with being the new kid, just so he can lay his eyes on his biological father. There was a time where he promised everyone he didn’t care about his biological parents, and he meant it. “Taemin, we have to talk to you” Donghae smiled after he put everyone’s dinner on the table and sat down next to Hyukjae, the two holding hands as they looked over at their son.“Go ahead” he smiled back at his dads; he admired how they were never afraid to show their affection both inside and outside of the house.“Well obviously you know we’re not your real dads so, and you’re fifteen now so maybe you’re getting curious, maybe you have a few questions. If you ever… you know, want to know your real parents then talk to us and we can-“Hyukjae was interrupted as Taemin lifted both his hands in front of him, silencing him.“Stop right there, I don’t care about anything biological, you two are my real parents and you will always be my real parents. You’re the ones that taught me to talk, walk; you taught me everything I know. You watched me grow and ever since you adopted me you did nothing but help me, care for me and love me. I don’t care about biological relations; I don’t want to know anything about the people that gave me up. It’s because you two are my dad’s, that’s the reason I’m happy with my life as it is and I don’t ever want that to change” Taemin, who had been looking at his plate of dinner the whole time, finally looked up at his two silent parents to see tears running down their still smiling faces.“Taemin, we love you so much, we’re so proud of you” Donghae said to his son.“Thankyou Taemin” Hyukjae whispered, for what they were thankful for Taemin did not know.Times change though, it was inevitable that everything would change and it’s not always for the best. His parents had shown Taemin that only a few days after his sixteenth birthday.“Tell me why” Hyukjae whispered quietly to Donghae“I don’t even know” Donghae replied calmly, as if Hyukjae would easily forgive him.“You don’t even know… why have you betrayed me?”“I never wanted to betray you!”“Then what am I supposed to do? You think you could say those things and I would forget that you screwed someone else?” Hyukjae’s voice cracked and a single tear escaped him, sliding down his cheek as he finished what he needed to say, his voice wobbling and breaking the whole time “We’re done. I don’t ever want to see you again” Donghae stormed out of the house.Taemin came out of his room after the front door slammed, wondering what had happened since his father’s rarely fought and when they did they always, always kept the volume down so that Taemin wouldn’t have to hear. He found his way to the lounge room where Hyukjae was staring at the ground, silent tears dripping to the floor.“Dad?” with the sound of Taemins quiet, unsure voice, Hyukjae snapped his head up and forced a smile through his pain for his son“What is it, Tae?”“Ummm... I just heard a door slam, where’s Hae?”Hyukjae’s breath caught in his throat and he forcibly swallowed past the lump in his throat “He’s gone” the two words, although spoken steadily, weren’t able to hide anything from Taemin.“Gone, gone. Or has he just gone out?” Taemin, deep down, knew the answer but he wanted so badly to believe it wasn’t true.“He’s not coming back Taemin”“Oh..” Taemin, in all his sixteen years had never heard anything so awful and finally with that, his father’s already weak façade completely broke down and the tears flowed while the sobbing grew louder with no sign of ever ceasing.“Oh god, I’m sorry Taemin, I’m so so sorry”Nothing could ever stay the same. After an uneventful first day at school, Taemin walked home his eyes on the ground. He felt so lost. Why was he even doing this? Was he doing it to get back at Hyukjae, who still refused to talk about why Donghae was gone, even after a year had passed without him? No, Taemin had decided he didn’t care; he loved Hyukjae and trusted him. It was obviously something that Donghae had done and the only anger he felt was towards Donghae himself, not Hyukjae, for leaving him without even a word of why or goodbye. Was it because all his friends knew their parents and suddenly he realised the social norm was to at least know your parents even if you didn’t live with them? No, that had always been the social norm and he had always believed that it didn’t matter who his biological parents were as long as he had his real parents, Hyukjae and Donghae. That was it.That was why he was doing this.He didn’t have Hyukjae and Donghae anymore; he only had Hyukjae who was an emotional wreck even after a year. He no longer lived in a stable household where he could rely on his parents, because the only dad he had left could barely get through the day without breaking down in a crying mess.He needed stability and that’s what sparked the need for searching for his real parents. But what was he expecting from this? What was he meant to do once he confirmed it all? He couldn’t, didn’t want to leave Hyukjae, yet he wanted so badly to live somewhere where he could depend on the one who was meant to be caring for him.Lost in his thoughts he didn’t see the figure walking right at him until they had bumped into each other and the one who walked into him was on top of Taemin. He frowned and slowly opened his eyes, lifting his head to see a boy that could be no more than a year younger than himself scrambling to get off of him. Once he was off he held his hand out for Taemin to get up and he hauled the bigger one up.Now Taemin could look at him properly, it was almost like he was looking in a mirror, the boy in front of him looked pretty much the same.Save for the slightly darker skin, the boys could have been clones.“I’m so sorry about that.” he bowed forward and Taemin finally recovered from his second round of shock that day.“Oh no, it’s my fault” he tipped his head to the side, studying the ‘s face  “My name is Lee Taemin, I’m sorry, I was busy thinking and-““Okay I’m still sorry Lee Taemin” apparently not noticing that he had interrupted Taemin, the boy finally looked up at and it was his turn to sport the shocked looked – the look only lasted for half a second before he grinned widely, Taemin noticing that it made him look young, mischievous even and it reminded him of himself.  “We look kind of the same. That’s pretty cool! I’m Kim Jongin….Hey! You go the school that my dad works at! I just noticed your uniform!” he scratched at the back of his neck, suddenly nervous and Taemin noted that this kid’s mind must work at a million miles an hour“Y-your father? Work’s at my school?”“Yup! Well ahh... if it’s not too much trouble I was wondering if you could help me?” Taemin continued to stare and Jongin continued, now even more unsure than he already was “Well uh, you see my dad asked me to come meet him for some reason and I don’t even know my way around the school so well uh... Do you think... no you know what, this is stupid, and I’m wasting your time. Don’t worry about it” an apologetic look in his eyes, he bowed his head.“No, it’s no trouble you want me to help you find him” Taemin guessed and Jongin’s grin grew impossibly wider “I can help, but I’m kind of new so I only know the basics”“That’s okay! That’ll be enough!”Taemin turned around and the two walked to the school in silence, Jongin asking occasional questions to try and start conversations. It wasn’t that Taemin was being antisocial, but he was so lost in thought he couldn’t focus on what they younger was saying. They finally got to the school and Taemin easily found the classroom that Jongin was searching for, Taemin opened his mouth to say goodbye when Jongin knocked on the wooden door but didn’t have time to speak as the door swung open, revealing Kim Heechul.“Hey dad” Jongin smiled“Jongin” Kim Heechul smiled back tenderlyThe words were caught in Taemin’s throat, he couldn’t talk, he couldn’t breathe, and it was all he could do to stand.Taemin had a brother. Kim Jongin was his brother.--To Be Continued--A/N:
