Coffee Shop Surprise (1/1)
Chen woke up later than usual, but because it wasn’t too late he quickly got ready for work. He felt weird not having a large file in his bag as he boarded the bus yet again for another normal, uninteresting day. This always happened when his secretary was collecting the evidence in order for him to put up the case to catch one of the mobs. Most people would probably feel anxious but he didn’t, he felt that the times he wasn’t working on the paper work then he would consider it his down time (even if he still went to work). He sat down with a huff, running his hands over his eyes, he hadn’t gotten enough sleep. He had dreamed that he was back together with his Ex and they were happy all over again, it was like he had gone back to the past, but then things had taken a turn for the worst. She had left him for a millionaire and had taken everything that he had worked so hard for, leaving him with nothing in his possession. It was a nightmare actually, but then near the end of the dream that boy popped up, the boys green eyes and red hair were brighter than ever. He was wearing all white and smiling, Chen remembered that the boy had never spoken a word, but he had helped him.Chen shook his head. The rest of the dream was fuzzy but he knew that the boy had helped him throughout the rest of the events that went on in his swirling mind. Why was this boy coming up again and again in his mind? They had only met once, they didn’t even know each other personally; and they didn’t even know each other’s names. What made him so special?Outside he was calm and composed, but inside he was raging and throwing a fit. What couldn’t he just live a normal life like everyone else. At this moment he felt like a fanboy fawning over his favorite idol. He wanted to pinch himself, he knew he was awake but he wanted to wake up again , only to something more “normal” so to speak. The bus ride seemed to take forever, all the stops dragging on as people jumped on and off of the bus (mostly old people) but everyone seemed to be moving at a snail’s pace today. With all that was on his mind was he moving the same way and just not knowing it?He questioned himself over and over again and before he knew it he was at his stop.~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~He strolled into his office building. He didn’t know why he had the jitters today. Then a thought occurred to him, maybe he would get to see his secretary and they could go out for lunch… And maybe then he could redeem himself to being normal again.‘Yes.’ He thought positively, ‘that’s exactly what I’ll do.’ Little did he know that he wouldn’t see his secretary at the office today either, or tomorrow; or for the next week. When he walked through his department to his office he got the usual greetings from everyone as they bowed and told him “good morning boss.” In a way he was beginning to get sick and tired of this but he didn’t have the heart enough to say, ‘you don’t have to address me other than hello.’ As he walked past his secretaries’ office he peaked in to see if she was there but yet again there was an empty office, and the files that he had set out the day before to be delivered to her were once again gone. It looked as if no one actually worked there, apart from the chair occasionally being out of place; but in all reality he questioned himself on whether he even had a secretary or not sometimes. He walked on into his office, going through the same routine he did every day for his job; even his coffee was there, the same sticky note and everything exactly where it always was when he arrived at work. He smiled, at least someone was thinking of him, or at least for the second that they wrote the note.Just before he went to sit down in his chair something caught his eye; it was a folded piece of paper. ‘That’s weird.’ He thought, picking up the paper and opening it.All it said was, ‘NSOD, Saturday, 7:30 PM, don’t be late.’ He frowned, since when was he invited to an event through random notes? He felt like he was in high school all over again when your crush would ask you out through notes because they were too scared to ask you to your face.He crumpled up the note and threw it in the trash. Someone was probably just playing a trick on him. He ran a hand over his hair as he sat down with a sigh; not enough sleep plus early work did not go well together. He was questioning himself whether or not he should take a ten minute nap when suddenly Chanyeol burst through the door, almost giving Chen a heart attack as he jumped. If anyone could wake you up in a second it was Chanyeol with his loud, overbearing self.“Morning boss!” Chanyeol practically slammed the door behind him as he jumped into the swiveling chair (on his knees) across from Chen, letting it spin around once before sitting down properly and looking at Chen intently. If Chen hadn’t known better he would have guessed that Chanyeol was a five year old boy trapped in the body of a fully grown giant of a man.“Sooooo?” Chanyeol smiled, leaning forward onto Chens’ desk, folding his hands under his chin.“Sooooo….?” Chen gave Chanyeol a questioning look, raising his eyebrows at the man who sat in front of him, never blinking.“Are you going?” Chanyeol sat up straight, finally blinking.“To that stupid event on Saturday?” It clicked in Chens’ brain finally; of course Chanyeol would be the only person leaving what looked like personal notes in his office. For one it’s at a dance club so it’s fun, plus,” Chanyeols’ eyes seemed to brighten as he thought about the upcoming party. “Everyone is going to be there.”“Yeol, why couldn’t you have just come in and told me this, instead of putting that stupid note in my chair, then coming in later anyway—”“Your secretary’s going to be there.” Chanyeol cut in point blank, as he crossed one leg over the other casually, never taking his eyes off Chen. This one statement caught him off guard and found him thinking about changing his mind on not going to the party on Saturday. “Going to the party you say?” His full attention was on Chanyeol now; wanting to know every detail about this event soon to be taking place.Chanyeol simply nodded, folding his hands in his lap.“Tell me more.” Now Chen was the one to fold his hands under his chin as he sat forward.Chanyeol leaned forward again. “Just be there, Saturday, 7:30 sharp, don’t be late.” Chanyeol had just repeated what the note had said but Chen brushed it off, his mind set off somewhere else.“And you say she’s going to be there, are you sure?”“My sources say yes, and my sources are never wrong.” Chanyeol smirked. Chen saw him glance at the untouched coffee on Chens’ desk and Chen looked over at it for a second before looking back and Chanyeol who looked like he was going to laugh. “Any love confessions lately?” Chen looked at the pink sickly note, turning so that it was no longer visible to Chanyeol.“No.” he said simply. Suddenly a thought crossed his mind, if he was going to meet his secretary (on casual terms that is) then he wanted to have a presentable outfit that wasn’t a formal suit. If he finished work a little earlier then he could go shopping afterwards and get something flashy, but maybe not too flashy. He wanted to impress her right away and he knew that women judged clothing and hair first. He stood up suddenly, “You have to leave.” He grabbed Chanyeols arm and pulled him towards the door.“Wait, what?” Chanyeol looked confused at Chen as he was shoved out the door and into the hall. “What are you doing?” now Chanyeol was curious what Chen was up to.“I can’t work with you in my space.” Chen slammed the door closed and locked it before beginning his work that was currently spread out on his desk. To anyone else, how he just acted with Chanyeol would be considered rude, but with Chanyeol he knew that if Chen ever slammed the door in your face he either had a good reason or he had something private he had to do that he didn’t want anyone else to know about. In this case Chen seemed to have secretary on his mind and that’s exactly what Chanyeol had been steering him towards.~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~Chen sped away at his work, sipping away at the warm coffee that was keeping him company as he chugged along; completing several different things at once in a short amount of time.Although he felt that he was going at cheetah speed it was soon lunch time and he desperately needed a break. His fingers were on fire from writing reports and he didn’t think that he could read or crunch numbers a minute more if he didn’t have any food to eat.Because of Chanyeol this morning he was on a mission and he felt that he was moving at super speed in order to make himself feel as though he was actually accomplishing something more important than the normal everyday things he always did at the firm; like paper work and computer files. He quickly changed, throwing his bag over his shoulder and practically racing out the door, he knew exactly where he was going, the Black Pearl sub shop. If he had to choose a favorite place to eat lunch by far this would win his vote.~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~He hurried his way through lunch, eating as fast as he could and thanking the angel bread maker and the panda waiter before he rushed out the door once again; heading back to the company to finish his work. As he was walking at a fast pace down the sidewalk back towards the company he suddenly felt the urge to go the little coffee hut shop in the middle of central park. Seeing as how he had only taken ten minutes to eat and he had an hour lunch break it wouldn’t hurt to stop by and check it out. When he finally arrived at central park the first thing that caught his eye was the yellow looking shop in the middle of the park where a couple people sat down at tables and some others stood around, and one in particular stood by the counter, talking to the owner of the establishment. That certain person as the red haired boy from the other day that had run into him, the one who he couldn’t seem to keep his mind off of.A thought suddenly hit him; he had to return the item that the boy had dropped the day that they had run into each other. He slowed his steps and made his way over to the shop. The owner immediately stood up, looking over at Chen as he approached; The boys’ height towering over the red haired boy standing near him (who didn’t seem to care) and in a way Chen felt intimidated by this very tall, very thin boy.“Annyeonghaseyo.” The Boy smiled, “what would you like today?” Chen stepped up to the counter as he looked up at the board with the several different drinks. Out of the corner of his eye he saw the boy turn to look at him, and it looked as if he was surprised to see Chen there, but when Chen turned and smiled at the boy his face was blank and unreadable.“I’ve never been here before so I don’t know what’s good.” Chen admitted.“No problem.” The boy smiled, “My favorites are this one, this one, this and this one.” The boy pointed to various ones on the board. There was a moment of awkward silence and he knew that the other boy was watching him. Suddenly the red-haired boy stepped up by Chen, “Choose that one, I think it’s pretty good.” The boy pointed to one of the choices that the coffee boy had pointed out to him.“Okay. I’ll take that one.” The boy nodded before turning around to make his coffee. “thanks.” He turned to the red-haired boy that stood before him, “I don’t usually order my own coffee so I don’t really know what to get.” He brushed his hand over the back of his hair awkwardly. “It’s okay.” The boy smiled, “You’ll probably get used to it.”Suddenly the whirring stopped and Chen turned to see the boy leaning on the counter with his drink ready. He paid, thanking the coffee boy for the coffee, who in turn replied that he just hoped it was something he would like and come back later for more.“Remember what I told you Baek.” The red-haired boy turned to the coffee boy, taking a sip from his steaming coffee.“Saturday, 7:30 right?” the red-haired boy nodded, “its downtown you say? Is it hard to find?” Chen casually eaves dropped as his eyes traveled around the park. Because he was in such close range he felt like he was prying into the life of someone else.“Right, no, it’s not hard at all, just look for the big gigantic letters; they’re hard to miss really. What I told you was just the abbreviation but since nothing else had the same letters it’s easy to know exactly which building it is.” The coffee boy nodded. “Well I have to go now, I have work to attend to.” the red-haired boy chuckled along with the boy named Baek.“Have a good day Xiuy!” Baek called as the boy began to walk away.“I told you to stop calling me that!” The boy called back, still walking farther away. “See you later Baek!” he waved.Baek shook his head with a smile, “stubborn fool.” He muttered to himself. “See ya!” he called back while waving at the boy walking away.Suddenly Chen remembered about the trinket he always carried in his pocket that he always told himself he was going to return to the boy. He reached down inside in the pocket he always kept it. Empty. He sighed, the one day he sees the boy and he didn’t even get to give it back to him, let alone he didn’t even remember to bring it with him today. He shrugged it off; he would have to give it to him some other time. The boy sure was casual and seemed to know what he was doing. Chen thought. He took a sip of his coffee, the taste was instantly familiar; it was the same coffee that his secretary got him every morning. Not to mention the boy had absolutely great taste in coffee. It must have been fate that he had gotten the same coffee.Chen thanked Baek and began to walk back to his office building, smiling into his coffee. Had it been fate or had it just been a coincidence that they had the same taste in coffee? He assumed that since the boy didn’t know what kind of coffee he liked in the first place he decided that it was just a coincidence.Even though the whole coffee ordeal was a mystery he went on with his day, making his way back to the company to finish up all that he had been working on.~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~For the next couple hours Chen returned to going through his work vigorously in order to finish by the end of the day, or at least, the end of his day.He felt that he glanced up at the clock on the wall every five minutes, and even though he knew the exact time the end seemed to come faster than he planned. He gathered his stuff quickly; organizing and categorizing the “finished” from the “unfinished”, before he left he changed quickly in his “normal” clothes and practically ran down the hall so that he wouldn’t get bugged by Chanyeol again about going to the party. He wasn’t sure where exactly he should go so he decided that he would go to the store he normally did. It was called Codes Combined. He liked it because you could find comfortable clothing that looked causal but could also be used for something semi-formal. In the case of casual he went along with a pair of gray/black jeans a black t-shirt and a silver jacket.Feeling satisfied he headed home with a hop-skip in his step; he almost couldn’t contain his excitement for the party. Saturday couldn’t come fast enough.* * *Happy Saturday everyone!!!! I told myself that I was going to write a whole chapter about Chen and wah-lah, here it is! \^^/ .
