This is a story of a boy and a girl. Of a girl who loved cinnamon buns and thought she wanted a “bad boy” when she really needed someone whole and good. Of a boy who thought he was broken and had a penchant for girls with dark brown hair and hauntingly clear, sharp eyes who could see through even the thickest of lies. Of how they, and we, are all just pawns on the chessboard called life, ready to be moved around at will by the cruel, sometimes kind, hands of fate and destiny. ForewordWe spend the first few years of our teenaged lives wishing and searching for an epic romance inspired by the books we read and the movies we watch. We spend the next few years of our legalised lives, estranged from everyone else in the world but that one person we think is the one. We will spend our adulthood - the period of time in which we really and truly are mature beings, regretting the stories we have made and the time wasted on daydreaming, but we will never regret having loved and been loved, with the semblance of what our young, reckless selves knew and claimed as ‘love’. We will not know the brevity of the word, as a noun, verb and adjective. We attach the word so casually to the boy or girl we believed we knew without ever really appreciating wholeheartedly, what that word meant. We will not know love, until we have lost it.
