Pages of Steel (1/1)
Chapter EightPages of Steel It hurts, but at least no tears were shed.I sat on the floor, thinking about a million things it seemed. I thought he knew his first kiss was with me.I thought he liked me, maybe.I thought HaNi wouldn't come here. Why did Zelo have to rip my pages before I could make them steel? WHY?"They were ripped weren't they?" someone asked. I looked up and saw Daehyun leaning down towards me. Usually my heart would beat fast, but it wouldn't this time. It was like it was dead..."Yes..." I said, looking away from his intense gaze. His shirt brushed my bare arm as he sat down, a grunt escaping his lips. "I'm too old for this," he joked as he crossed his legs beside me.I cracked a smile. He can't be that old. "Who ripped it? Junhong-ah?" he asked, trying to look me in the eye but I looked away, embarrassed. I sighed, taking a big breath. "I think so... But I don't know why he did.""Go get them," he told me, his voice low like he didn't want anyone to hear it. "Right now before they leave his hands.""What? My pages?" I asked, sniffling. "Let's stop using a metaphore, huh? Go get your heart that he took. Right now. At this moment." He pointed towards the floor, telling me it was down to business. "He took my heart... Right?""Yes. Now go get it back. And when you do that...your pages will be steel." His voice was gentle but firm. He knows I needed it more than I did. "O-okay." I tried to stand up but I was sitting down for so long that my legs hurt and I fell over. "Oh!" I fell on top of Daehyun, his arms wrapping around my waist to try and stop me. "Are you okay?" he asked, his eyes full of concern. His arms were still wrapped around my waist and my eyes were wide. My heart was beating like crazy."I-I-I'm going now," I said in a hurry, lifting myself off of him and running out the door. He was still laying on the floor, his eyes wide with shock since everything happened so fast. I'm really clumsy today. First I fell on Zelo and now Daehyun? I should probably watch out...I reached a road that led to a big super market and as I turned around, I tripped on something, falling again, but this time the concrete was there to break my fall...or my nose. "Ah!" I said, clutching my nose and praying that it wouldn't start bleeding. Some liquid hit my finger and I cursed. "Aish!" I pulled my hand back and blood traveled down my upper lip, finding where my lips parted. I quickly closed my mouth so I wouldn't have to taste the bitter liquid."LaeJoon-ah?" DongKi's sweet, deep voice floated to my ears. Please don't see me like this! Why at these moments?!I turned around, putting my hand over my face, but I had realized my mistake too late. I used the hand with my blood on it. "LaeJoon-ah!" he shouted, dropping what was in his hands and rushing over to me. "What did you do?"I sighed. "I fell." My voice was quiet."You fell?" He laughed and I scowled at him. "You're the same, aren't you?" He lifted his hand and ruffled up my hair. "DongKi oppa!" I laughed, flattening my hair to what it was. "Oh right, let's get it to stop," he said. "I think it did," I said, feeling my upper lip."Just like that? Are you sure?""I think so...""Let's go wash it. Here, there's a fountain right over there." He pointed to a public fountain that was made out of stone. A little girl was throwing a one hundred won into the water. It made a plop and she clapped, walking back over to her mom to show her where it had landed. Aw, how cute!I walked over there and looked at the clear water. DongKi covered my nose so other people wouldn't see and then he gently put a handkerchief into the water and wiped my nose with it.I flinched at the cold water against my hot skin."Sorry," he whispered as he dipped the cloth again. "Cold, huh?"I nodded, blushing. He was so cute~I closed my eyes as he wiped off my face. When I opened them something caught my eyes: yellow hair. I moved over as DongKi dipped the cloth back in and I looked at the yellow hair which was attatched to Zelo's head. Zelo!I ran away, wiping the water from my upper lip and the left over blood. "LaeJoon-ah!" DongKi shouted, probably trying to stop me, but I continued running."Zelo-ssi!" He turned around and then I saw who was next to him: HaNi, her eyes red and puffy like she was crying. His eyes were big and he immediately pulled HaNi aside before she could see me. Zelo?I walked closer to them and before I could reach them he sent her into a shop, telling her to try on about five pais of clothes and he would buy them for her. "Zelo-ssi?" I asked, moving my head to the right. "Are you okay?"He turned towards me, his eyes like fire. "What do you want?" His voice was a tone I had never heard before. It made me flinch. "Um...I wanted to ask a favor," I said, my voice soft and quiet. He laughed an unamused, icy laugh. "Your asking for a favor after what you did to HaNi?"Don't stick up for her. I nodded shamlessly. His laugh cold laugh was back. "You're unbelieveable," he scoffed. "What is this favor?""Please give it back," I said, looking him in the eyes. I felt like I was ging to cry, asking someone to give me my pages--my heart--back. "Give what? I never took anything."A tear fell down my cheek, but I ignored it, wondering why it was even falling. "You took my pages." I wasn't even sure if he heard me. "What pages?""You know...my pages.""No, I don't know. What frigging pages?""My HEART, okay?!" I shouted, looking him in the eyes again. His eyes were wide with surprise at the sudden outburst of noise. "Your...heart?""Yes, my heart. You took my heart and I don't know why." I dared to keep my eyes on his, knowing I was already crying. His eyes softened. "Is this a confession?""No," I said. I'm sure it wasn't a confession, but he took something from me and I wanted it back. Whatever he took from me, it made my heart hurt afterwards. And it was still hurting. "I don't like you like that, LaeJoon-ah. I love...HaNi."I don't know why, but that made my heart hurt even more, making my chest tighten and my stomach drop. "I-I know," I said. "But what about your first kiss?" "I know it was you. She told me it wasn't her." "Then why do you still like her? I thought you've been looking for this first kiss girl forever." My voice was sad as heat built up in the back of my eyes. "I know, but now that I know it was you, I realized that it was nothing special. Just an accident. I'm sorry." He paused, looking away from my initmidating stare, the he forced himself to look me in the eyes once more. "And I don't know how to give you back your heart."My pages are gone? Well, think. What took my pages? His words. Where did his words come from? His mouth. That's the answer, right? My heart began to speed up, making it hurt even more as I thought about what I may have to do. I walked up to him slowly and looked him in the eyes, waiting until he was holding his breath and then I put my hands on his arms and used him to slowly pull myself up as I closed my eyes and planted my lips onto his. At first my heart hurt, but then it became normal, my eyes drifting open to look right into his. I pulled back, walking backwards slowly. "Thank you," I said, knowing that my heart was full again and my pages were taped back on. They could always fall off, but for now they were staying. "LaeJoon-ah--"Someone passed in front of me and when they walked past, HaNi was already on Zelo's arm, showing him into the store with a smile on her face, waiting for him to by her stuff. He looked back for a second and our eyes met, but he then turned and walked in with HaNi. He made his choice and now I could keep my pages that were now steel. My pages are steel...Steel.
