Four, Five, Six... (1/1)
It was already midnight when little Yoona climbed into the rooftop. As her legs brought her higher and higher, she wondered if her neighbor would be there, on the other house's roof. For the past several days, she always met her—saw her everytime she had her rooftop session. Little Yoona would wait for the girl to wave at her, and she would timidly wave back, a shy smile always appeared on her face as she did so. And that was it. The only communication they did. Silence would envelope around them as they looked up to the sky, watching the stars—although little Yoona would admit, silently, that she couldn't help but stealing some glances every now and then to her rooftop-sessions' companion. Everytime she did so, and the other girl didn't see her, she would catch a sad face or a look she couldn't fathom—but certainly not a happy one. And then, when she had stared too long, the tanned girl would notice her and gave a warm smile at her. Yoona liked that smile, and loved to think that she was the cause of that smile. It warmed her lonely heart to know that she could shoo her companion's sad look away, and it gave her one more reason to await the night. But today, little Yoona was late. Usually, she'd be on the rooftop since nine p.m., and climbed down at midnight—or else her parents would drag her down and scold her about how important a sleep is for a growing kid. But today, her cousins had visited and her parents instructed her to accompany them. Little Yoona didn't hate her cousins—if there were any people her age she was comfortable with, it's them. But accompanying them meant watching movie together 'till midnight and thus making her late for her rooftop session. Little Yoona climbed the last step and stepped on the rooftop, silently deciding that tonight she would be the first one to wave. As soon as her eyes adjusted to the moonlight, she tried her best to look around calmly, searching for a certain raven haired girl. But even when her calm state raised into a frantic one, she didn't found any silhouette in the other roof. The moon above her was shining beautifully, but for little Yoona, the only thing real was her loneliness once again. *~;:>o<:;~* Sooyoung sighed and rubbed her sleepy eyes. She had been accompanying Yoona again last night, and Yoona gave her a continuation of her story—only to leave Sooyoung depressed at the end of the tale. Not that Yoona's expression was happy when she told her all this. Sooyoung still remembered the faraway look Yoona had, and the sad look she wore even as she smiled at the stars. I wonder if she learned that sad look from the neighbor girl, Sooyoung briefly thought. As Yoona left her with a cliffhanger, Sooyoung could almost picture a 'to be continued' sign when Yoona finished her tale with a question, "I'm pathetic, aren't I?" And without waiting for an answer, she turned her attention to the sky again—and began counting like yesterday. One, two, three, four, five, six... "I don't even get any hint I can use to help her," mumbled Sooyoung, a little bit grumpily. "Help who?" Sooyoung raised her head and stared at the blonde girl in front of her. Oh right, she thought, I'm having lunch with Jessica. Almost forget she's here. "Nah, just my housemate," answered Sooyoung shortly. When Jessica shot her with a questioned look, she only shrugged. "You already know her. Im Yoona." "Aaaah..." Jessica nodded slowly as the name rang a bell inside her brain. "What's about her? She looks like a bubbly girl." "Well, yeah, she is... but..." Sooyoung hesitated for a while, trying to find the best way to explain without opening too much. "But sometimes, we only want to show the other people the surface, right? What we look like isn't fake, but there's more in us—a side we don't want to be known by everyone. Uh... do you get what I mean?" Jessica stared at her, amused. "I don't know Choi Sooyoung can be that deep without involving food." "Hey!" "But I do understand what you mean," said Jessica, resting her chin on top of her hands. "It's like saying that the calm on the sea's surface sometimes hides the sea-mountain's explosion deep inside it." Sooyoung wow-ed. "I don't know Jessica Jung can be that deep when she's not sleeping." "Yah!" The taller girl stuck her tongue out. "Now we're even. Kekeke." "Fine," huffed Jessica. "Hurry, eat your food. Our break time is almost over." *~;:>o<:;~* Im Yoona didn't hate rain. On the contrary, she loved the petrichor—a pleasant smell that frequently accompanies the first rain after a long period of warm, dry weather—that was emanated everytime it rained. She loved the rythm of the rain drops, and she liked to watch two rain drops chasing each other on the glass window. She only hoped the rain wouldn't come at night. Yoona watched the sky from the window as it rained heavily outside. She sighed deeply, feeling dejected by fate. She had succeed on refraining herself from watching the weather forecast, obeying Sooyoung's command finally, yet here's what she got—it rained. And it didn't look like it would stop soon. "Don't be sad, Yoong," Sooyoung's voice came from behind. "We could always watch the stars tomorrow—they won't go anywhere." "I know," answered Yoona without taking off her gaze from the window. "Do you think the rain will stop at midnight?" Sooyoung glanced at the clock. "It's already eleven p.m., I don't think it will be finished by midnight." Yoona sighed deeply once again and turned around, back-facing the window. "I think I'll wait until the rain stops." "Are you out of your mind?" asked Sooyoung in disbelief. "Yoong, you have classes tomorrow!" "But I need to count the stars!" "What's with you and counting the stars?!" Yoona stared pointedly at the older girl. "You don't understand," she said seriously, making Sooyoung felt a little bit taken aback. "Then make me," challenged Sooyoung. She had never seen this side of Yoona—the Yoona that was stern, serious, yet at the same time looked fragile. Like if she forced her further, she would break. She never knew this side was exist—and now that she knew, she wanted to understand why. Yoona covered her face with her hands and sighed heavily. Her shoulders dropped, Sooyoung noticed, and she almost took back her words when Yoona uncovered her face and looked at her. "I will tell you the next part of my story."
