One, Two, Three... (1/1)
Walking down the street, Sooyoung hummed to herself with upper body swaying left and right. She was in a good mood, since her boss freed all the employees today, hence why she was now heading to her place. In the middle of the noon, when people were at work, she was free! That was enough reason to be happy, wasn't it? Smiling, Sooyoung made her way to a two-story house in the near end of the road. She rummaged through her bag, and when the key was found, she approached the door, unlocked it, and opened it—very, very, very slowly. She could almost hear that unique thief-y soundtrack playing in the background. It wouldn't be good if a neighbor caught her acting all secretive and accused her for attempting robbery, but she needed to be discreet. After all, she had been living that two-story house with a housemate, and if her housemate knew about her free time, she would be doomed. There would be no peace because she would be dragged around by the housemate, doing only God-knows-what, far from refrigerator and bed. So my act is justified, and no one would suspect a beautiful girl like me anyway, thought Sooyoung firmly. So, as the door was opened, she came in, almost tiptoeing in the process. One, two, three, okay dear body, almost there— "SOOYOUNG UNNIE!!" As the voice boomed throughout the corridor, Sooyoung jumped in shock, slipping in the process, and produced a loud, high-pitched, full-of-harmony sound with her mouth and her body. Brugh! "ACK!" *~;:>o<:;~* "Um, unnie, is your bum still hurt?" The girl in question glared at the voice's owner. "What do you think?" asked Sooyoung, pressing her forehead with a damp towel. "Well, you have been wetting your forehead for a while now, so I think your bum is okay...?" Sooyoung rolled her eyes, let out an exaggerated sigh, and proceeded to hit her housemate with the towel in her hand. "Hey!" "Hey what?" challenged Sooyoung with eyes narrowed, "are you going to inhumanly shock me again and watch me die from suffering a heart attack?" "I'm just calling out to you, how in the world could that be classified as 'inhuman'?" "Because you're not human, that's how." "Unnie!" "You should stop imitating Sunny's aegyo—" "Unnie~~!" "Goddammit Im Yoona I said stop!" yelled Sooyoung as she smacked the other girl's head with a pillow. "Sunny's aegyo is a crime against human's sanity! Just because you're not a human, it doesn't mean you can destroy humanity as inhumanly as you like!" "Unnie..." "What??" "If you can smack me like that, your bum must be more than okay." And there went the second smack. "Gosh unnie, can't you stop smacking me like that? After all I need my brain to remember what I want to tell you!" Sooyoung raised her brows. "You have something to tell me?" "Yes! Yes! And that's why I shouted inhumanly to you earlier—because it's urgent! Let me tell you—" Sooyoung folded her arms in front of her chest and shook her head. "No, don't say it yet. Let me guess first; were you watching the wheather forecast news, again?" The girl bobbed his head ups and downs. "Um! Um! And, it's an emergency! They said—" "That tomorrow is going to be raining all day," finished Sooyoung with a bored look. Seeing the shocked look on the other girl's face, she ranted in mock annoyance, "How can I guess it right? Simple, because that's their usual guess! Don't they have any other guesses? They said 'it's going to rain' for three days, already!" She shook his head in disappointment, before sending a glare to the younger girl. "And Yoona! I already told you not to watch it again!" "But I want to know tomorrow's weather!" whined Yoona, eyes widened in disbelief. "Why can't I watch it? WHY??" "BECAUSE WHENEVER YOU WATCH IT, THEIR PREDICTIONS HAPPEN FOR REAL!" *~;:>o<:;~* Zaaaaaa.... Zaaaaaa.... Zaaaaaa.... "See what I mean? It rains!" huffed Sooyoung as she piled up their not-yet-dried clothes on the table. Yoona, on the other hand, was sulking in the corner quietly, giving the taller girl a chance to continue her rant. "You should've heard and obeyed me, Yoong!" "This is the seventy seventh time you turn their prediction to reality!" "EXACTLY SEVENTY SEVEN OUT OF ONE HUNDRED." "All because you refuse to let the weather be a surprise!" "It's fortunate we still able to pick up our clothes or else all our hardwork to wash these will be in vain!" "What hardwork, we're always using machine to wash it," grumbled Yoona not so quietly, but immediately cowered at the daggers Sooyoung sent her. "Okay I'm sorry! But I can't not watch it, okay? I need the predictions to—" "To what?" asked Sooyoung, her hands stopped sorting the clothes into two separated piles. She looked at the younger girl expectantly, after all Yoona never told her the reason behind her obsession with weather before. Yoona glanced at the window, and released her breath slowly. "To count the stars, unnie," she answered, loud enough for Sooyoung to hear. *~;:>o<:;~* The next day, Sooyoung went to work with dark circle on her eyes. She had been staying up all night accompanying Yoona watching the stars—the rain stopped right in the middle of the night—and listened to her housemate's tale. She had been surprised to learn the... how to say it... gloomy part of Yoona's life, for the girl had always presented a bubbly and cheery personality in front of her, rather inhumanly too. Like, even when it rained at the end of the day, Yoona still flashed a smile towards Sooyoung before bidding her good night. Sooyoung entered her room and dropped her bag at the table. "Before entering elementary school, I was an introvert with extreme difficulty to socialize with others back then. My parents brought me to the park everyday, but no one wanted to play with me. Even if there were, actually they only played around me. Not with me. I was never included in their games, and when I asked, they humiliated me." "I withdrew myself afterwards, refusing to go out... and my parents stopped bringing me to the park. I had been alone back then, except for nights." "What happened at nights?" "I would climb up into the rooftop, and sat there, watching the stars as they greeted me with their twinkles." "........." "But one night, from the house right beside mine, a girl climbed up into her rooftop, too." "And?" "And I didn't remember seeing her before, even when our house were side by side. The girl had a raven long hair and tanned skin, as far as the moon light allowed me to see. I was shocked, excited, and worried at the same time. Shocked that there was that girl I never remembered seeing before. Excited that someone had gone up to the rooftop at night, just like me. And worried that... that she would humiliate me like the others did. Her eyes found me, and I was frozen there, waiting her to do something." "Do something?" "Yes, do something... climbing back down, jumping out from my sight, turning her back on me... I don't know. Anything. That's what I usually got, anyway." "........." "As minutes had passed, I was ready to be the one who climbed back down when that girl didn't do anything except stare at me, but suddenly... she waved at me." Sooyoung closed her eyes and sighed. Oi, this was bad. She couldn't get Yoona's story out of her mind, and she suddenly had this urge to help the younger girl. But help how? Yoona finished her story exactly at that point. After telling her that the neighborhood girl waved at her, Yoona only smiled and stared back to the stars. She didn't say anything more besides counting slowly; one, two, three, four... until ten, and then repeated it again from one. Knock. knock. "Come in," said Sooyoung aloud. A girl opened the door and peered in, "Sooyoung-sshi? Mr. Kim wants to see you in his office..." "Okay, I'll be there in a sec," answered Sooyoung. The girl nodded and closed back the door, with Sooyoung taking in her figure in the last seconds—tanned skin, long raven hair... somehow she reminded Sooyoung of how Yoona described the neighborhood girl. Could she be... "Nah," Sooyoung shook her head. "It's impossible. Gosh, I really need to clear my head from that story even if just a sec." She stared at the closed door, before letting out a big sigh in defeat. "Okay my head, if it's not raining I will accompany Yoong again tonight and see if she wants to tell me the continuation of her tale or not. Satisfied? Now, let's get going and meet Mr. Kim," muttered Sooyoung to herself as she got up and prepared to leave. After all, her boss didn't like to wait and no one dared to annoy him in that matter.
