“Minatozaki Sana!”Momo jumped out of her skin as Mina ran at them, wrapping her arms around her girlfriend.“I was looking for you! Did you know that—oh my god your hair’s black!”Sana beamed, looking at Mina with starry eyes and red cheeks in that way that made Momo feel like she should probably leave the room. “I’m here, Minari!”“She just finished dying it back an hour ago,” Momo said, leaning forward against the table awkwardly.“Why didn’t you tell me!”“Because I was going to surprise you with my gorgeousness,” Sana said, cupping her own face with her hands and smiling goofily.“Well it didn’t work,” Mina grumbled unconvincingly, looking away with pink cheeks.“She’s lying,” Momo whispered dramatically. Mina rolled her eyes sheepishly, moving an arm over Sana’s shoulder as she allowed herself to be seated beside her.“You hear that, Mina?” Sana said, smiling. “You’re lying!”Mina met Sana’s eyes, and Momo quietly watched them, feeling sort of surprised there wasn’t a sheet of glass between them and a plastic box surrounding the two girls. It was right out of a drama.Mina kissed Sana, and Momo slammed her head against the table. She was in Sana’s apartment, so it wasn’t even really PDA, but that didn’t help Momo feel any better.“Please stop.”A second later, she looked back up to the sound of laughter. They were cracking up, slapping the table and holding hands as they cackled. Momo blinked at them. They would never make sense to her.Eventually, they stopped, looking at her and blinking almost in perfect unison.“But what about you, Momo-chan?” Sana said, tilting her head and widening her eyes like a puppy.“Huh?”“When do you start dating?” Mina said, leaning forward and grinning. Momo responded with the ghost of a smile, searching the room for an escape.“Who would Momo be cute with?”“I’ve gotta go,” Momo said, standing, and in an instant two Japanese girls were holding either arm, entrapping her in this terrible apartment building.“You like someone!”The dragged her backwards, then pushed her back onto the chair.“Who is it!”“No one.”Mina groaned, spinning around in frustration.“Come ooooon, Momoooooo…”“I… I’ve got a… thing to go to…”“You said that earlier!” Mina pointed at her. “At the movie. You didn’t even end up seeing Star Wars!”“Oh, yeah,” Momo said, looking away. That had been Dahyun.“She’s secretly dating!” Sana shouted, and Mina and Momo looked at her blankly.“No she’s not,” Mina said. “You’re so stupid, Sana.”“Hey! I’m not stupid, you’re stupid!”Mina scoffed. “Come on. I am the least stupid person in all of Seoul right now. And that means that I am less stupid than you are!“Oh yeah? Well if you found all the stupidity in the world, and you stuffed it into a sundae ice cream bowl, then-”But Momo didn’t hear the end of that very colourful thought, because she’d successfully snuck out. Slapping the dust from her hands, she walked away, proud of her smooth escape, and then checked her phone.6 unread texts from DahyunnieMomo blinked. Dahyun hardly ever sent that many texts – curiously, she opened it up, scrolling through. Can you talk?… Whenever you’re there :)Dad’s in hospital again, his pneumonia is really badAh, darn it, Chaeyu are busy!!!well if you have time I’m hanging at the parkI’ll be fine, don’t feel pressured :)

Momo stepped forwards quietly, carefully watching the girl sitting on the swing. She leaned to her left, leaving her right arm outstretched to lightly hold the rope, a bracelet dangling from her wrist.“One, two, three,” Momo whispered, and before Dahyun could even react Momo pushed her, swinging her as the younger girl’s screams turned to laughter.“You can’t just do that, Momo!”Momo giggled as she let the swing settle, and she was relieved to see a smile on Dahyun’s face as she jumped off.“Momo,” Dahyun said, still giggling a bit from the shock, and Momo smiled back at her, picking out the notes of sadness in her eyes that Dahyun tried to hide.Dahyun’s smile faded quickly, though. She looked down, and Momo looked down as well. And then, Dahyun was closer, her arms wrapping around Momo’s waist as she leaned her head against her best friend’s shoulder.“He’s in the hospital?” Momo asked, lifting her arms to hug the girl back.Dahyun nodded into Momo’s shoulder. “I hate this.”“I know,” Momo said quietly, lifting a hand to stroke Dahyun’s hair. It was so bright; that soft yellow below, fading into dark black. Her hair suited her. Sometimes she was as bright as the yellow sun.Other times, she was so dark she needed someone else’s shoulder to cry into.Momo stepped back, out of the hug, and wiped the younger girl’s tears.“Can you visit him?”“He only ever lets me visit on weekends,” she said, sniffing. “He doesn’t want me to lose focus on my grades.”“You know, if he was really in danger he’d want to see you as much as he could. The doctors probably think he’s okay.”Dahyun nodded, and Momo took her hand, dragging her away from the swingset. “Do you wanna talk? Or just keep walking?”“I don’t know,” Dahyun said, looking down. She dragged her feet, lagging behind Momo slightly, but neither girl let go of the other’s hand. She didn’t know how long they’d been walking, in pure silence, when Dahyun stopped walking altogether. Momo stopped as well, looking back at the girl, the arms stretched between them so as to not let go.Do you want to be alone? The words were on the tip of Momo’s tongue, but before she could say them, Dahyun had looked back up. Her eyes were a little watery, but she smiled brightly.“Hey, while we’re here, why don’t we play something?”Momo blinked, and then Dahyun pulled her hand away, reaching out and touching Momo’s arm with a shout of “You’re it!” before she ran away. The shout was a little broken and her voice a little weak, but Momo knew what Dahyun was saying – she didn’t like the atmosphere, and she’d decided to change it. Laughing, Momo chased after her.“Dahyun, this isn’t fair! You get a headstart!”Dahyun laughed loudly, and while Momo was running she watched the girl, her hair blazing behind her as her laughter rang in the wind. Momo laughed herself when she got an idea – she prepared herself, leaning forwards while she sprinted, and then she jumped, tacking Dahyun to the ground.“Got you!” she said, laughing as she rolled onto her back. Dahyun remained face-down, but her shoulders shook with the laughter.“Okay, I did not see that coming,” she said, her voice still a little bit shaky, but at least that was partially the laughter. Dahyun looked over at Momo, positioning herself a bit differently so that she could face her blonde friend. She reached out, prodding the older girl’s arm. “I win.”Momo giggled, a bit lost while she looked at Dahyun. “Damn it.” Dahyun’s returning smile was bright, so bright it crinkled her nose and closed her eyes. “You’re too adorable.”Momo only realised she’d said it out loud after, but she stood by it.“I know,” Dahyun said, rolling to her back and spreading out her arms. “It’s my secret weapon.”They became quiet after that, watching the clouds. Momo couldn’t feel anything but the awareness of Dahyun’s presence beside her. She just tried to keep looking at the sky so that it wasn’t too obvious. She felt Dahyun taking her hand, and she breathed out calmly, squeezing the other girl’s pale fingers.“Are you going to be alright?”“Yeah,” Dahyun said. “I think I will.”

Momo raised her eyebrows as she watched Mina rummage through her bag.“I swear I brought it, it’s just somewhere in here-”“I’ll pay,” Momo said, smiling over at the poor serving lady. She smiled back, accepting the card as Mina sighed.“You didn’t have to do that.”“In Mina-lish, I swear I brought it means I put it on the table next to my bag and then forgot to put it in when I left. I’m working you out.”Mina squinted. “Yeah, actually, I think that’s what happened. Are you psychic?”Momo shrugged. “Sana’s been possessed, so anything’s possible.”“She’s possessed!?”The lady passed Momo her card back and they made their way to a table. Usually they’d try to eat with all three of the Japanese girls, but Sana was hanging out with a new friend.“Well, last I heard,” Momo said as she landed on the seat. “I’m hungry.”“Don’t worry, that goes without saying with you.”Momo fought her giggle. “Good. You get me,” she said as Mina placed her bag in front of her, searching through it.“Oh, here it is! My wallet always reappears when I no longer need it.”“Possessed?”“I swear, there’s mysterious things happening at this university. How much did you spend?”“Oh, don’t worry about it, it was pretty cheap.”“You sure?” Mina asked, looking up at her. Before Momo could answer she realised Mina had shifted her sight to somewhere behind her. “The new friend is Tzuyu!?”Momo turned around, shamelessly looking over at Sana entering with the giant of a Taiwanese girl, giggling at something Sana had said.“Why do I need to be jealous of literally everyone with this girlfriend!?”“You… don’t?”Mina sighed, high-pitched and defeated. “You’re right,” she said, and Momo looked back at her poorly hidden pout. “It’s fine.”Momo looked at Mina for a second before sighing.“Mina, can you remind me who Sana’s dating?”“I’m not jealous!”“Right. And I’m not hungry.”Mina giggled in spite of herself, before groaning. Momo glanced back at the girls, getting their attention and waving them over.“You guys were eating here?” Sana asked, looking surprised.“Yeah. Join us.”“Sounds good,” Sana said, a sing-song quality to her voice as she pulled a chair from a nearby table and sat herself right beside the shorter-haired strawberry blonde. Mina’s sheepish smile grew when Momo gave her a look. Her friends didn’t stop being idiots. But maybe that was why Momo got along so well with them.a/n- this chapter is so overdue, I'm sorry. School has been hell, and writer's block and all that. I'll work on getting some consistency back!! :) Hope you enjoy!
