More than just friends (1/1)

“Kibum, I’m going to send you oversea next week.” Jaejoong informed Kibum as he tied his tie around his neck for work. Kibum mustered all his courage and stood up. “I won’t go. I don’t want to be a bodyguard.” Jaejoong frowned as being a bodyguard has always been their job for generation after generation. He turned to look his son. “Kibum, being a bodyguard has always been our family tradition and I would not allow you to break it. The most important thing is that I’m not asking for your permission at all. I’m informing you.” His voice wasn’t gentle like usual whenever they talked. It was rather more stern and demanding. “What era is this now, Appa? I can choose my own road. I don’t need to follow the path you laid for me at all.” Kibum raised his own voice for the first time after living with his dad for 17 years. “I followed the path that our ancestor laid for us, why can’t you do the same?” Jaejoong also had a dream or becoming a model, a singer but his path has already laid down for him before he was even born into this world. He chose to listen to his dad and follow the same path. “I dare to chase my own dreams, I dare to say no because I’m not a coward like you.” Jaejoong couldn’t hold back himself anymore and gave Kibum a hard slap on his left cheek. Jaejoong only regretted a few moment after his own action. Kibum eyes were soon filled with tears, Jaejoong wanted to apologize but his pride as a father held him back. Kibum just ran out of the house and didn’t even turn back for once. Jaejoong threw the tie that hung loosely around his neck on the floor and groaned with frustration. Perhaps he was angry because Kibum was braver than he was.   Kibum ran in the rain that started suddenly, his mind was blank and doesn’t know where to go. It was the first time in his life he ever felt that he doesn’t belong anywhere. Rain drops fall on his face, mixing with the tears that were running down his face. He only knows that he has been running for awhile now. He stopped himself and looked down on the ground. He touched the red mark that Jaejoong left when he slapped him. It was all numb. How he wished he could just disappear right now. He looked around only to find himself at the playground where he and Jonghyun always play at. He ignored the fact that he was drench from head to toe and sat down on the swing. He closed his eyes, hoping that the rain will wash away the pain that he felt in his heart.  He stayed at the same spot for endless of hours, from the time where the sky was still blue until it turned black. Rain stopped about a few hours ago but he never bothered going home. He let his body be exposed to the wind, even though he was feeling cold but he doesn’t do a thing about it. He stood up as messy thoughts were finally clear, there’s no point fighting. He doesn’t see a way he could live a different life. Unless… Unless he wasn’t the son of Kim Jaejoong, he would be able to pursuit his dreams. Right now he has to swallow his pride and go home. Perhaps his dad did something like this once and soon found out that, it doesn’t help at all. He dragged his heavy feet along with him, to a place where he called home. He looked up to the road in front of him, only to see a worried looking man running across the street, searching for something. “Appa…” In this world, there would never be parent who doesn’t worry about their child. It’s just that they don’t show it. Maybe Jaejoong wanted Kibum to go oversea was actually for his own good.   After that incident, Jaejoong didn’t rake about it again. Kibum and Jonghyun continued to be best friends and walked to school together. As they were making their way home, a van stopped at the roadside, people with mask came running towards them. Jonghyun immediately stood in front of Kibum which made things easier for the kidnapper. Kibum was shocked as they grabbed Jonghyun. He tried to pull Jonghyun back but his hands were cut by one of the kidnappers. He can only feel his griped on Jonghyun getting weaker and weaker. Someone of them started kicking his body, pulling him away. “Jonghyun!” He screamed as Jonghyun disappeared along with the van. He ignored the pain on his body and started running to Kim’s mansion. The bodyguards outside the mansion were shocked to see Kibum in such a bad state. Jaejoong immediately ran to his son. “Dad…. Jonghyun… Jonghyun has been kidnapped!”   “I’m so sorry, Yunho.” Jaejoong brought Kibum with him to apologize to Yunho, he only shook his head. “It’s okay, at least Jonghyun is back. Don’t blame on Kibum anymore.” Kibum eyes were filled with tears, if only he could protect Jonghyun, Jonghyun wouldn’t have to get hurt at all. “Kibum, go and see Jonghyun. I bet you smile can make him feel a lot better.” Kibum nodded and ran away quickly without even taking a look at his dad and see if his dad allows him. “Jaejoong-ah, don’t feel bad about it.” Jaejoong could only shake his head, hoping that history won’t repeat it again. He doesn’t want his son to face the same pain. He don’t want Kibum end up loving Jongyun and continue this unrequited love.   Kibum run to his room like how he did last time, but this time round Jonghyun was asleep on the bed. Kibum crept softly towards Jonghyun. He then knelt down beside his bed. His hands caress the older boy’s cheeks. He felt like crying right now. How he wished he could protect the older male… Perhaps there’s a way, a way that he can protect Jonghyun forever.   “I’m leaving Jjong.” He swing slightly on the swing, the gloomy expression couldn’t be hid away. Jonghyun did not say anything but just kept quiet. Key looked at Jonghyun guiltily; wounds were still visible on his face. Key stretches out his hands to grasp on to Jonghyun’s hand. “Mianhae…” Jonghyun only held on to his hand tightly, still looking down. “Key, can you don’t go?” Kibum knew he couldn’t despite the fact that his dad will still be in Korea. He was determined to study oversea not for his original dream of becoming a fashion designer but to be a bodyguard. Because Kibum wished that one day, he would be able to be the one protecting Jonghyun and not the other way round. He doesn’t want to see Jonghyun getting hurt again in front of his eyes. “Mianhae…” he muttered softly. There was a pregnant silence before Jonghyun spoke up again. “Promise me you will come back. Alright?” Jonghyun looked at Kibum with those eyes gleaming full of hopes. He grabbed their friendship ring that was hanging on his neck. “I will Jjong… I will…”   Jonghyun woke up, the person that was normally in his room wasn’t there and he felt strange. He gets himself ready for the new day ahead before going down the stairs to the living room when he heard nothing but laughter by two older men. He saw his personal bodyguard standing with a familiar young man. He couldn’t make out his name but just felt that they had met before. He sat beside his dad but eyes still glue to the young bodyguard. “Jonghyun, Jaejong is retiring, therefore he will no longer be your bodyguard. But don’t worry, his son would take over. Kibum come over here.” Jonghyun felt as if there were butterflies in his stomach. “Ki… Kibum? Kim Kibum? Mr Kim’s son?” It’s been three years since he last saw Kibum. He had grown so much taller, his noticeable muscles under his suit and his distinct features. He had grown into such perfect guy. “Yes son, how can you not remember him? It’s only been three years…” Jonghyun stared at Kibum disbelievingly. How could he grow from such a fragile boy into a tall and matured looking man? Despite the fact that Kibum was wearing a pair of sunglass, he could still feel that his eyes were on him. “Key…”He went and gave Kibum a hug, squeezing him so hard as if there was no tomorrow. He only felt a pair of hands wrapping gently around him. Ever since the day Kibum left, he had been so lonely. Despite the fact that he was always surrounded by people, but there weren’t truly his friends at all… Well, even there was… He can never take over the place Kibum was in his heart. Somehow nothing can replace him in his heart. “I’m back like I promised.” Kibum whispered softly. “Jonghyun, from now on my son will take my place as your personal bodyguard.” Jonghyun broke off from the hug and grinned. Kibum kept his promise after all. “Really?! Key, we finally can be together again!” A soft smile spread across Key’s face but still wasn’t able to read his expression fully due to the fact that his eyes were hiding under a pair of mysterious sunglasses. “Thanks a lot Mr Kim for protecting me all this while. I will not make things hard for him, you can be assured of that.” Jonghyun smiled at Key’s dad before looking back at Key.   Being his main personal bodyguard, he will have to be with Jonghyun for twenty four hours, well at least until he dismiss or change shift with someone. Key was follow Jonghyun all day, Jonghyun would always try chatting with Key to get back the sense of familiarity. Of course without a doubt, they two started talking non-stop like before. What made Jonghyun even happier was the fact that the ring hung around his neck. Their BFF ring.   Jonghyun was preparing to sleep, Kibum just stood aside. “Key, can you come over?” Kibum walked closer to Jonghyun. “Do you have a girlfriend oversea?” Jonghyun was a little nervous as he awaited for his reply. Kibum could read Jonghyun like an open book and decided to play a joke. “Yes. I have a girlfriend with big boobs, blond hair about 175 tall. She has great body curves and nice personality.” Kibum tried to hold back his laughter as he watched Jonghyun getting a little disappointed. “Of course not. I was joking with you.” Jonghyun then started laughing along with him. “You lied to me.” Jonghyun pouted playfully. “I don’t care, you will have to tuck me in bed because of that.” Jonghyun than laid down on the bed. Key smiled. To him, it wasn’t a chore at all to tuck Jonghyun to bed. It was more like a reward as he can even take a closer look of his sleeping face. “Good night, Key.” Jonghyun gave a quick peck on Key’s cheek and pulled the cover over his head and turned his body with his back facing Kibum. His face turned red as Jonghyun’s action registered in his brain but soon beamed in joy. He then lifted his boney finger touching the part where Jonghyun just kissed. “Goodnight, Jjong.” BIG thankies to my subscribers! and SILENT READERS!!I should have made this a one-shot. (regrets)
