Growing up (1/1)

Jaejoong knocked on the wooden door twice before he turned the door knob and walked. In front of him was the sweet couple, smiled and laughter filled the room. “Yunho, congratulation.” Jaejoong said in his usual serious tone with the exception of a gentle smile on his face. Yunho only laughed and pat on Jaejoong’s shoulder. “Cut the formalities with me, Jaejoong. You are on vacation now.” Jaejoong nodded as he looked at the child that was on the Mrs Jung’s hands. Soft giggles were heard as Mrs Jung played with the baby boy. The room was filled with laughter from the newborn baby and his parents. “Yunho, have you thought of a name for the child yet?” Jaejoong asked as he touched the baby’s cheek. Yunho nodded as he and his wife has long ago thought of a perfect name for the baby. “We have talked about it before. Since we long knew it’s a baby boy, we decided on Jonghyun. I guess Junghee would have to wait until the next baby.” His wife pouted and hit playfully on his husband chest. “Who say we are having another child.” Jaejoong only laugh bitterly and envy the couple. Perhaps it’s because their love bonds was strong or was it just that he himself doesn’t have a complete family at all… “Jung Jonghyun, It’s a nice name. I’m sure he would grow into a fine man.” He added as he touched the baby’s cheek. His little hand grabbed on his finger. The huge size contrast put up a wide smile on his face. “How about you? I remembered that your wife is pregnant. It should be due about five month later right?” Jaejoong nodded. It was an arrange marriage that Jaejoong was forced into. “How getting our child engaged?” Yunho grinned since he and Jaejoong have been like more than buddies when they were young and best buddies when they are older and generation after generation Jaejoong’s family has always been Jung’s family bodyguard. “It’s a pity because the baby is a boy.” Yunho looked a little disappointed for a moment before breaking into a smile again. “At least they would turn out like best buddies like how we did right?” Jaejoong nodded but in his heart, he hoped that they won’t turn out like how they did. He doesn’t wish his son to suffer the same kind of fate again. Jaejoong was glad that he let go of that unrequited love at least Yunho was happy. If he had continued to hold on, things would be more chaotic.   He was dragged along the pathway, and pushed roughly to the wall. Right in front of him stood three strong guys which were about two times of his size. He didn’t try to get away but just glared at them. Even though he was only eleven, he wasn’t afraid of them at all. “Hey wimp, give us your money or we will beat the shit out of you,” he threatened the smaller boy. He didn’t move from the spot, just a smirked on his face. He was used to all these threaten and insult; to him it no longer hurts anymore. “Just do it.” A punch was sent towards Key’s cheek. Key sniggered and as blood drips slowly from his lips. To him these wounds were nothing but scratches when compared to the training his father gave him. Those training that would knock him out for a day or two. “Is this the best-” Before Key could even continue, he was pushed onto the ground. Not a bit of horrified expression could be seen on his face only a grin. Before those bullies could lay a leg on his stomach, a voiced called out to stop them. “Hey, Stop!” A younger boy ran towards their direction and stood in front of Key. His arms spread wide as a way to protect the fragile boy that was behind him. “Another wimpy kid… It’s our lucky day, let’s beat them up.” The boy pulled Key into his arms, and let Key’s face lean on his chest while he blocked all the attack with his back. Key looked at the boy, he knew the boy’s name. He was Jung Jonghyun. He saw Jonghyun wincing in pain, why did he try to protect him? Key was used to being bullied all the time and used to pain. He can only blame himself for the fact that he never wanted to learn to fight back. But Jonghyun, he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, how can he suffer all the pain? “What are you kids doing there?” An adult came by and chased after the bullies. Jonghyun looked at Key once more, wiping away the blood stains at the corner of his lips. “Are you alright?” Jonghyun looked down at his fragile little boy, his eyes staring deep into Key’s eyes. “Why? Why did you protect me?” Jonghyun did nothing else but to touch his cheeks. Key know that Jonghyun could jolly well ran away to find an adult to save him but he didn’t understand why he chose to protect him by himself. Was he stupid that he never thought of it or it was something else? “Cause I want to protect you with my own strength, Bummie.” That childish smile on Jonghyun face melts the icy cold heart of Kibum.     “Yunho, I apologized for my son for getting your son hurt.” Yunho only laughed out heartily as he looked at his bodyguard and his son who was kneeling down. “Don’t need to worry Jaejoong. Sometime it’s good for kids to get into fight so they would grow up even faster. Kibum, don’t have to kneel down. Get up.” Kibum give a quick glance at his father. Jaejoong nodded as a way to say he can get up, Kibum then stood up. In the family that Kibum grew up, self-discipline was the first thing that he learnt and was the thing that he had learnt the hard way. “Come Kibum.” Kibum made small hesitant steps towards Yunho and stopped right in front of him. “Such a beautiful face, just like your father... No wonder Jonghyun wanted to protect you.” Yunho touched Kibum’s face lightly, reminding Key how Jonghyun always touch his face. There’s a proverb that say, like father like son. “Go, go and play with Jonghyun.” Kibum nodded his head slightly before running off. Jaejoong looked down and sigh. “Don’t they look like us?” Jaejoong nodded in agreement. Jonghyun and Kibum were like how they were when they were young. Yunho will always be trying to protect Jaejoong like how Jonghyun will want to protect Kibum. “Do you want me to bring Kibum away?” Jaejoong asked, perhaps it’s better to separate them before everything is too late. At least before Jonghyun fall in love with Kibum like how they did. “No, I don’t think they will turn out like us. I can see a difference between you and Kibum.” Jaejong couldn’t help to agree, Kibum was much braver than he was.   Kibum ran towards Jonghyun feet as fast as his little feet can bring him. He managed to find his little best friend in his room. He didn’t dare to go in but the truth was he didn’t know how to face Jonghyun. He never had someone trying to protect him before. “Kibum! You are here!” Kibum nodded before he walked in. “Are you okay? Does it still hurt?” Kibum asked softly. Jonghyun only smiled and held on to Kibum’s hands. “I will feel better if you kiss on my wound.” He grinned cheekily. He was joking with little Kibum but to Kibum it wasn’t much of a joke at all. Kibum leaned down to kiss Jonghyun’s cheek. “Feeling better?” A light shade of red form on his cheek. Jonghyun was more than happy to receive it. “All better!”   Both of them were running around the playground playing catching, they never had so much fun just playing by themselves. They were twelve that year. When they were tired, they sat down at the bottom of the slide. Jonghyun was still staring at Key’s perfect face, getting lost in the world full of Kibum smiles. “Jjong, what are you looking at? Is there something on my face?” Jonghyun shook his head showing his famous puppy face at Key. “I really like staring at you Key. Your eyes, your nose, your lips and your cheeks… You are so pretty, Key.” His hands hovering slowly around Key’s face as he named the features and calling the only nickname he can call. “You are so cheesy, Jonghyun.” Key playfully slapped his shoulder. Although Key complained, he was smiling deep down in his heart.   In the running years of their life, they became closer, maybe a little too close. They went to the same school, being in the same class every year. Jonghyun would always choose to stay close to Key and walk home together. Maybe it’s a weird for best friend to hold hands. To Jonghyun and Key, it doesn’t really matter now as they don’t care about what others say about them. Like usual, Jonghyun doesn’t go home by the car his dad prepared, he would always choose to walk home with Key. Since Jonghyun was going home with Key, his dad didn’t force him to go home by car. Again today, Jonghyun was walking home with Key. However it was rather special as this time round he prepared a ring in his pocket. Jonghyun was fidgeting with the two rings in his pocket, still hesitating and thinking. Would it be too inappropriate for him to give him this? But the person said that it can be wear by two people because of friendship. Like how Spongebob and Patrick have their friends forever ring. But these examples were just reason that Jonghyun give to himself to lie that this is what friends do. “Jjong, is there something you want to say?” Kibum know Jonghyun too well, usually Jonghyun would be blabbering about music or some interesting things but today was exceptionally quiet. A little too quiet for Kibum’s ears. “Well, Key... I…” He stopped his tracks and took the rings out. “I know it’s a little weird but… I just want to give you this.” Key took the ring from his hand, looking at the small craving on the inner ring. JongKey BBF Key moved his eyes from the ring onto Jonghyun. He scratched his head embarrassingly and laughed awkwardly. Key smiled a little and wore on his middle finger. He looked at his hands, how perfect the ring fits on his fingers. “It’s really nice, thanks Jjong.” He then pulled Jonghyun into a long hug. In Key’s mind, he was thinking that it’s normal for best friend to hug right?   Jonghyun was grinning ear to ear the moment he stepped into the house. His father couldn’t help to notice his abnormal behavior. “Why are you so happy Jonghyun?” Jonghyun run walked to his dad. “Nothing. I’m always this happy.” He then walked away leaving his dad confuse but Jaejoong has spotted the ring on his hands the moment he stepped in.There won't be any smut in this story...Well still hope you enjoy!
