Part 10

The rays of the afternoon sun pierced their skin and yet, even the heat was not able to interfere. Two years of pain, solitude and denial was compensated in a few weeks of reunion. Indeed, love and fear are the greatest emotion there is, and one could dominate the other.

Kyuhyun sat quietly on the bench watching the kids play around the park.

Just a few weeks ago, he would find himself seated on the very spot thinking about his life, asking himself why, why of all people him. There would be times that he would end up crying and pitying himself as he reminisced the beautiful past he had shared with the person he most loved. It would always be the moment when he would think about Sungmin, and how he was doing, and hope, and dream for him to return to him. He would imagine himself on the very spot seated, laughing wildly, an ice cream on hand and peppering Sungmin’s beautiful face with soft kisses. He would do those things and end up crying hopelessly in the end.

It had never dawned to Kyuhyun when that day would finally come; maybe not the illness part, and having Sungmin beside him that very moment was indeed enough for him. He smiled as the familiar man approached him, a can of soda on his hand. Kyuhyun’s heart never fails to flutter every time.

He hadn’t spoken the words of forgiveness towards Sungmin. It had been a month though, but he was garnering up the courage and the trust. He had taken Heechul’s advice of holding on to a firmer grasp. He did, a little and left Sungmin hanging for a while.

The older though, did not falter and continued to stay by his side. Kyuhyun was growing guiltier every passing day, and most especially when he would hear Sungmin crying in his sleep. There were also times that Sungmin would be calling a name… a boy’s name.

Sungmin had told him of Masaki once. He knew he was the reason why Sungmin returned he knew that the boy made Sungmin realize his own failures. Though after that one conversation, Sungmin never told of him again and Kyuhyun did not know why but he was aware not to press on the issue just yet. He knew Sungmin too well.

“It’s getting hot.” Sungmin spoke as he opened the can for him. “Are you sure you want to stay a little longer?”

Kyuhyun nodded as drank. The beverage ran through his throat, refreshing his dried tonsils. “I’m okay. Or… are you bored?” He smiled.

“No… no!” Sungmin answered defensively, making Kyuhyun giggle. “The heat might stress you out, that’s why.”

Sungmin was pouting, that pout Kyuhyun had missed so much. He smiled once again and took Sungmin’s hand making the older gasp in surprise. “I’m not making things hard for you… I hope. I’m working on it, Min.”

Kyuhyun’s eyed widened as he stared at Sungmin’s face, tears glistening on his eyes. His heart clenched in guilt, did he say something wrong? “Sungmin… I… I’m sorry, did I say something wrong?” He was panicking, his heart beating fast. Immediately, his hands reached out for Sungmin’s face and wiped his cheeks with his thumb. “Min?”

Sungmin shook his head, taking his hand and interlacing their fingers together. “I… I was just shocked... and happy.” Sungmin smiled once more as he rubbed his lids with his free hand. “You called me Min again. It’s so nice to hear it from you again, Kyu… I… I’m so happy.”

Min. it was Kyuhyun’s endearment for Sungmin. Min… Minnie – and he said it without apprehension, without any thought. Kyuhyun found himself grinning in the realization that, step by step, he was closer to forgiving. And he had wanted it more than anything.

He leaned closer and cupped Sungmin’s face, not minding of the tremor ticking on his right arm. “Yes, Min… I did.” And he kissed Sungmin’s forehead.

~.~.~.~.~.~

Min-chan, you promised you’ll be back. Why aren’t you back, Min-chan?

“Masaki, please, Kyuhyun needs me. Please wait a little longer. Please?”

I thought you wouldn’t leave me. You’re just like my mommy. I don’t want you anymore.

“Masaki, please. Hold on a little longer.”

Goodbye, Min-chan.

His heart was hammering inside his chest, a pain he hadn’t been feeling for a while was suddenly returning. Sungmin felt nightmares return, he felt sadness and solitude in every dream, but this time, it was not Kyuhyun haunting him. It was not the tremors of Kyuhyun or the forever fear of his disease. It was different, it was solitude and hatred. It was Masaki.
