Amber sat in silence, her eyes tracing the random patterns in her bedroom rug as she tried to let what Jessica said sink in. “You’re telling me that you’re a Goddess straight out of Greek mythology?” She couldn’t keep the scorn out of her voice, couldn’t keep the disbelief from coating her words as she stared at the purple lines on her rug. “You could tell me the truth, Jessica, not some twisted fairytale to make me feel sorry for you.”Silence met her accusations, and then she heard the swish of air before a pillow whacked her on the back of the head. “Hey!” She shouted, stumbling to her feet to turn and stare at the petite girl. Jessica knelt on the bed holding a pillow, anger creasing her beautiful features as she threw the pillow at Amber.“I was telling you the truth, dammit!” She positively screeched, her girly voice high enough at the moment to pierce a glass wall, and Amber winced and covered her ears. It didn’t help, though, as Jessica continued in that high scream. “I told you everything! My father is sending his people after me and they will not stop until they find me!”Amber backed up to put as much space between her and the possibly crazy woman on her bed, then said, “If you’re a Goddess then why don’t you show me your powers.”She immediately had to duck the second pillow that was thrown at her, and watched as it went careening out the door to bounce down the hall. “I already told you, I can’t use any power! It will take my cloaking off, they would feel my power and pinpoint where I was immediately! Amber,” Jessica crawled off of the bed to stand on the floor, moving toward Amber with her hands splayed out as if approaching a wild animal. “Amber, I am telling the truth. The girl you saw, that is Yuri. She is a demi Goddess and nothing more but if she find me, she will tell Siwon where I am and they will both come after me. Together, they can overpower me and shit will hit the fan for both of us.”The woman – Yuri – Yuri’s eyes flashed through her mind, the deep red gold color making her feel that maybe, just maybe, Jessica was telling the truth. “You… really can’t show me anything? Something substantial?” She asked, her voice quiet in her own ears, and she saw Jessica’s face soften.“I can’t, I’m sorry. It’s too dangerous.”Jessica stood a few feet from Amber now, her hands still held to her sides, her eyes roaming over the taller girl’s face. It wasn’t clear when the change came over her face, but it did, a totally different look crossing her features before she moved. Stepping closer, she lifted her hands and gently touched Amber’s cheeks, her eyes on Amber’s own before they dropped to her lips.‘Oh my god she’s going to kiss me,’ Amber freaked out, backpedaling quickly before she turned and fled to the kitchen. She heard the bedroom door slam behind her but it was lost in the panic of her thoughts. Several hours passed before Jessica calmed down enough to try and head out of the bedroom. She honestly wasn’t sure what hurt more, the fact that she couldn’t get Amber to believe her or the fact that the other girl had rejected her. She wasn’t even sure what had come over her, why she had wanted to kiss the mortal girl in the first place, but the confusion didn’t make the rejection hurt any less. And frankly, it was embarrassing.Night fell and her stomach was growling, so finally she forced herself out of the bedroom to slowly sneak down the hallway. She could hear the soft sounds of the tv, some sitcom turned down low, but as she peeked into the living room she found Amber asleep on the couch, still fully clothed. Her leg was twisted up underneath her in an uncomfortable looking position, her head on her shoulder as she snored lightly. ‘I hope she gets a leg cramp,’ Jessica thought spitefully, slipping past and into the kitchen to make herself a bowl of cereal. She perched at the kitchen bar where she could see the sleeping girl, watch the rise and fall of her breathing, the creases in her forehea
