[M] Chapter 10 (1/1)

As soon as Mrs. Son and Narsha got back home, Dongwoon immediately brought them to Gikwang to see if there was something wrong. In a hurry, he two boys explained every little change in the pregnancy that the teenager had experienced so far. After half an hour of panicking and checking everything about the baby, Mrs. Son sighed in relief and sat next to Gikwang on the sofa, smiling. Confusion was evident on Gikwang’s face as he looked at Mrs. Son with expectant wide eyes, wanting to know what was going on.“You had me terrified just then, Gikwanggie!” the woman said, eyes crinkling in a friendly manner.“What? Is something wrong? Has the baby died?” The teenager asked desperately. Mrs. Son shook her head, chuckling. Dongwoon watched her just as intently as Gikwang did, nibbling his lip.“Do you really think I would be smiling so much if the baby was harmed in any way? Of course not, you noodle. You’re just getting further along. Your pregnancy won’t stay the same throughout the nine months, sweetie. It’s going to vary a lot from this stage onwards. The pains and aches you describe are just natural because your body has to change a lot to make room for the baby. It’s the same with a woman, but you might feel sharper pains because the male body is different and has to alter itself more drastically for the foetus to grow.” She explained slowly, making sure he was following. Gikwang laughed breathlessly, totally relieved by the news. He let his head roll back and hit the back of the sofa while he smiled. Dongwoon couldn’t conceal the grin on his face upon knowing that everything was ok.“I was so worried..” he breathed. Gikwang nodded in agreement.“Boys, honestly. You leave them alone for a few hours and they think the world’s ending!” Mrs. Son joked. Narsha laughed but gave Gikwang a kiss on the cheek.“I’m sorry baby, you must’ve been so scared. I should have explained more about what was going on. I’ll talk you through it some more after dinner if you want.” She offered kindly. The teenager nodded and lovingly ran his fingers over his bump.“I’ll explain some things, too. I’ve seen enough pregnancies in my lifetime to know what’s happening with your body. You did the right thing just now though; asking for another opinion. If you ever feel anything strange that I haven’t already warned you about- no matter how small- you must tell me as soon as possible just to be sure. This little baby is our top priority, ok?” Mrs. Son chimed in, putting her hand on Gikwang’s shoulder and looking directly at him.“Top priority.” He replied firmly. “I’ll do anything I can.” Narsha and Mrs. Son were as good as their word, together covering everything they thought Gikwang should know about his pregnancy. They explained every factor they deemed important and every little detail that could come in useful to know about. The two even thought it a good idea to explain- without too much detail- how the baby had been made in the first place. The boy took it all in with interest and fear, slightly daunted by the things his body would have to go through to give birth to this child, but intrigued as to how it all worked. He found that his biggest feeling was that he was impressed that his body had and would go through so much. He had always wondered how children were created and born, having never been taught about the human body, let alone anything related to sex. It all started to make a lot more sense and it comforted him to know exactly what he would be facing, even to the point of exciting him a little. All in all, the fifteen-year old went away from the private pregnancy coaching at the kitchen table with a head full of new knowledge and a body that felt ready for the change. Just to be perfectly sure that everything was going smoothly, Mrs. Son asked her friend, a female doctor, to visit the house the following day. She knew that the boy wouldn’t feel comfortable around some emotionless uniformed stranger, as the orphanage probably had an infirmary with someone fitting that description. So, like any good person, she chose to maximise Gikwang’s comfort by introducing him to someone she knew he could trust. There was a polite knock at the door in the afternoon of that day and Mrs. Son sprung to her feet, smiling as she opened the door and saw her friend. This particular doctor had worked with the Son family ever since Mrs. Son had started working as a nurse and they took an instant liking to each other. She was sure Gikwang would feel the same. The doctor smiled, waving.“Hello! I haven’t been here in such a long time!” she said cheerfully, pulling Mrs. Son into a hug. “How’s Dongwoonie been? Such a lovely child.” She cooed fondly, recalling images of the polite young boy she had visited last time. Mrs. Son chuckled.“Not so much a child anymore! He’s eighteen now, isn’t it crazy?”“Wow, he’s already an adult! Where did the time go..” the doctor sighed, still smiling.“Anyway, it’s not my big sweet man of a son I brought you here for. It’s a gorgeous rather tiny pregnant boy who is currently upstairs. I thought it best that he see an expert at this stage, just to put all of our minds at ease.” Mrs. Son explained, leading her friend inside.“Well that was very assertive of you. Male pregnancies are never simple- purely because they don’t seem to occur as often as female ones. Though, you shouldn’t worry, I’ve done my research on both and I’m very confident in my expertise.” The doctor reassured.“You’re an excellent doctor, I have no doubts about that.” Mrs. Son said, beaming. She took her friend upstairs, showing her the way to Gikwang and Dongwoon’s bedroom. Taecyeon crept out of his own bedroom to see who was there, shyly eyeing up the stranger. Mrs. Son saw him and smiled widely, gesturing for him to come closer. The doctor couldn’t help grinning at how cute the little boy was. She crouched down to his level and held out her hand for him to shake, which he nervously did.“And who is this handsome young man?” she asked, as if she wasn’t talking to someone so little.“This is Taecyeon! He came from the same place as Gikwang and he lives here too. He’s a bit shy around people he doesn’t know, though.” Mrs. Son pointed out as the boy shuffled to hide behind her legs. The doctor chuckled and got back to her feet, stretching out.“Well, he’s certainly a lovely boy. I will see you later, Taecyeon, right now I have to go and check on your hyung to see if he’s ok.” She said softly, before turning to Mrs. Son and silently asking if she could knock on Gikwang’s door. After permission was granted, the doctor knocked loudly on the door, entering as soon as she heard the teenager’s call of invitation for her to come into the room.Gikwang was sat up in bed, looking happy but very worn out from the discomfort of his pregnancy. He gave the doctor a friendly yet slightly awkward smile, looking at Mrs. Son for an answer as to who this new lady was. Mrs. Son cleared her throat.“Gikwanggie, sweetie, this is my friend Doctor Yang. She’s a medical specialist who will be supporting you throughout the next few months. Really, we should’ve scheduled a doctor’s visit a long time ago, but better late than never. Do you want me to stay in the room?” she asked. Gikwang nodded. Doctor Yang walked over to the boy and perched on the end of the bed where he was sitting.“Right, this won’t take long. I just have to do a quick check-up. Could you list your symptoms for me?”“Well, I’m getting sharp pains and I’m aching a lot- especially on my back. Also when I move too quickly I can get breathless. That’s all I can really think of. Is that normal? Narsha and Eomma said it was.” Gikwang checked off everything in his head, feeling anxiety bubble up inside him once again.“That is all perfectly normal, dear. I know it’s uncomfortable and quite painful, but I promise it will be alright if you bear with it. You’re doing so well. Now I’m going to check your temperature and listen to your heartbeat, just to be on the safe side. Say ‘aah’..” Gikwang opened his mouth and awkwardly made the suggested sound as a thermometer was put in his mouth. The doctor gave him a reassuring smile and read the numbers on the thermometer, smiling at the result. “Perfect. This is just the right body temperature. Make sure to keep warm so that you don’t get a cold, but don’t overheat either. I have no concerns about that, though.”“So, I’m ok?” he asked unsurely once the thermometer was out of his mouth.“It certainly seems so. Let me have a quick listen to your heartbeat and I’ll go from there.” She replied encouragingly, putting him at ease. The boy relaxed back onto the headboard of his bed as the doctor attached the stethoscope to her ears and pressed the end against his chest. She hummed, satisfied. “Good, steady pulse. A little faster than regular, but that’s only natural; caused by the stress and lack of sleep. Other than that, you’re perfectly normal.”Mrs. Son exhaled in relief, though she hadn’t really expected any other outcome. She gave Gikwang a thumbs up, which he happily returned. Doctor Yang looked pleased and removed the stethoscope.“Is there specifically anything he should do to keep himself and the baby safe and healthy?” Mrs. Son enquired.“Well, you must rest a lot and get some proper sleep before you get sick. The sleep should somewhat lessen the aching in your joints, too, though I would recommend a nice hot bath and some good food for that. You’re also going to have to get some fresh air. As lovely and comforting as this house is, you can’t keep yourself cooped up in here forever. As for the baby, the best thing you can do is look after yourself and eat good, nutritious food. Also avoid tripping over. As long as you’re sensible and follow my advice, you’ll be perfectly well.” The doctor answered kindly, giving Gikwang a small hug before getting up off the bed.“Thank you so much for coming. It’s been a real help. ” Mrs. Son said to her friend gratefully.“Absolutely not a problem. If there are any issues, or you just want to ask  me something, pop into the infirmary any time. I’ll be more than happy to help! Plus I’ll come to assist the birth in a few months time, so I’m not going to be a stranger.”There was a lot of hugging between the two friends before the doctor said goodbye to Taecyeon and Gikwang and popped her head round the living room door to wave to Narsha and Dongwoon. She left the house as quickly as she had came, leaving a trail of relief and happiness behind. Gikwang felt positive that he was doing everything right and could now relax properly.   A/N: aaahhhh I told you the wait for the next update wouldn't be long~ I'll probably only post once tomorrow anyway, so have this now as a present from meeee! <3 *fandom cuddle*
