Anyway, without further ado… Chapter 2 of In This Life… Sweet Dream In the dead of night, eleven figures stood around a small bed, peering down at the auburn haired boy peacefully sleeping the moonlight away.“Are you sure this is him? He looks so scrawny,” a high-pitched voice inquired.“Yea, how can a soul strong enough to tame the Mind be in him?” a voice with a weird accent asked.“It’s not his looks that matter; it’s his soul and his heart. D.O. is a prime example,” another voice responded with a light teasing tone.“Yah!” another sounded followed by a loud slap and muttered bickering. This is one weird dream, Luhan thought as his consciousness became aware of the conversation going on around him. He snuggled deeper into his blankets, attempting to fall deeper into sleep.“Both of you stop it now,” a new motherly voice commanded.“How can we be certain? I cannot see a mark with him wrapped so tightly in blankets. In addition, he won’t look at us, nor is he responding to us,” a deep accented voice inquired, with a lazy sort of drawl.“Well that can be fixed,” two mischievous voices sang in unisonIn a split second, Luhan’s blankets were ripped from his body. His eyes shot open as he sat up right in bed. He stared at the figures in his room surrounding him, two of them holding onto his blanket. The figures were dressed in dark cloaks with hoods that covered their heads and scarves that hid their facial features. He remained motionless for a while as all eyes looked upon him with curiosity. It took a moment to gather his bearings as he gaped at the beings in his room, he did the first thing that came to mind, he screamed.“Luhan!” His mother’s voice echoed as she raced down the hallway, her feet thumping loudly on the wooden floors. The door swung open and the elderly woman rushed to her son’s side. “Luhan, what’s wrong,” she asked trying to get her son to focus on her. However, his eyes kept darting around his room; fear and panic etched into his features.“Who are you people?” Luhan whispered his voice trembling with fear as his hands balled into fists. He tried to push himself further into the headboard to get as far away from the beings as possible. His mother looked at him quizzically as she surveyed his room, the only objects present being his desk and his blanket kicked to the foot of the bed. Aside from his window being open, there was nothing out of the ordinary. She delicately placed her hands on her son’s cheeks and forced him to look at her. “Luhan, there’s no one here, just you and me,” she said, gently stroking the sides of his face.“Mom, there are people here! All of them are looking at me; two of them are even holding my blanket!” Luhan replied trying to convey to his mother what he saw as his eyes darted around the room wildly. His mother glanced around the room once more, but saw nothing. “Luhan, I think you’re still dreaming,” she said, reaching down and pulling her son’s blanket back up the bed. Softly, she lay her son back down as she gently tucked him in. She placed a soft kiss onto his forehead and whispered a small prayer before sitting up. “Go back to sleep, I’ll wake you when it’s time for break fast,” his mother said as she stood up and closed the window, before leaving his room.Once the door was shut, Luhan’s eyes shot open again and he sat up right in bed. He looked upon the figures with confused and quizzical eyes as he surveyed them, trying to find some distinguishing marks or tell tale signs of who they could be.“Well, that was a close one, I was certain we would be caught,” the tall one said, his big ears poking out from the top of his scarf and the hem of his hood.“Regular humans cannot see us, only the Chosen,” a small one responded with the same motherly voice that reprimanded the bickering two earlier.“So that confirms that he is one of us then?” a tall figure questioned with a funny accent.“Yes, we’ve found the Mind,” another tall one answered, moving closer to him with a hand outstretched towards him.Luhan could see a weird dragon like ring on the man’s middle finger and the same mark on the back of his hand. As it came closer, the mark began to glow and Luhan started to freak out, but he could not find his voice or the strength to move. Just as the man was about to touch him, another grabbed his wrist. Luhan followed the arm to the petite man it connected to but the man was not looking at him.“Now is not the time, can you not see he is frightened,” The small man stated as he pulled the other’s hand away. He looked over the other ten figures and all of them looked away in guilt. “We will return at a later date. He is not ready yet."There was a moment of silence as the other figures nodded their head in understanding or mumbled responses of confirmation. One by one, the figures moved toward the window and slinked away in balls of light, going through the glass. As the petite person was about to follow the others he turned towards Luhan and pulled back his hood and scarf. For a moment, Luhan was struck by the man’s ethereal beauty as the blue moon cast a different kind of light upon the man. It made his porcelain complexion almost glow and the blue moon caused his pink hair to look almost white. He was a vision of winter, pale and glowing like freshly fallen snow.Luhan felt a sudden pang of recognition as a small smile crossed the man’s lips as the light of the moon began to consume him.“Good Night, Lu-ge.”With a wink at the other male still on the bed, the figure disappeared like a whisper in the night, leaving nothing but a mesmerized young man in his wake.
