Two Moons (1/1)
Two Moons In the bare countryside, a young man stood on his family’s porch. His porcelain skin shone like the pale light of the blue moon and his hair swayed like the leaves on a tree in the light summer breeze. Luhan looked up at the night sky, mesmerized by the two moons that shone brightly amongst the sea of stars, each different and beautiful in its own right.Nevertheless, the light of the pale blue moon, Azeria, and the dark blood red moon Isera, outshone all the stars in the sky, their light almost touching as they looked down upon the earth. As Luhan continued to gaze at the sky, he recalled a tale his grandmother loved to tell him as a young boy…Long ago, our world was over run with creatures and spirits of a like none can imagine. The creatures were grotesque animals that raged wild through out the lands, wreaking havoc and blood shed in their wake. The spirits, although not violent were a trouble of a different kind. They liked to play with the bodies of humans, possessing them and using them for their own will, leaving the humans mentally insane and spiritually broken. As the misfortune continued, the people of our land sent forth a young woman to the highest mountain on the darkest day and placed her upon an alter as a sacrifice, that the blood of the purest of heart and strongest of soul would appease to the powers-that-be, that they would end the pain and suffering of our world. The wish of the people was granted and a force like no other was created and given unto the young woman for her selfless sacrifice. She had powers like none had ever seen before, she could create mountains with the stomp of her foot or a raging fire with the flick of her wrist, even stop the air in our lungs if she so pleased. However, even with this great power she was no match for the joined forces of the creatures and the spirits for they wished to possess that power for themselves and schemed to rid her of them. They came in the dead of night, when she was resting in her home and caught her unaware. A battle raged on for days, some even say it was weeks, but not even her god given power could outlast hundreds upon thousands of continuous attacks over such a long period of time. Eventually, her endurance began to crumble and she ran only stopping once she reached the same mountaintop where she was blessed with her powers. As her life began to leave her, she prayed to the gods to save her people, that her powers might be given unto another who was stronger than her, that they may have the strength to overcome the monsters that plagued the land. At the very least, let her death not be in vain. As one last breath left the young woman, a bright light arose from her body, shot towards the moon, and exploded into five different lights that descended back towards the earth. In the coming days, five warriors arose from the lands to protect the people from the darkness that overwhelmed their world. For a hundred years, there was peace and prosperity in the lands and the five warriors were revered as gods. However, there must be an end to all things and the darkness swelled once more, stronger and much more powerful than the last time. Fearing they would be over taken, the five warriors chose thirteen men of great worth and they were blessed with the light.Together the eighteen men fought for their people but as days turned into months and months turned into years, the men sought a better solution. On the night of the winter solstice when the moon was at its highest point, the warriors gathered upon the same mountaintop where the young woman first received her powers. Together they prayed to the gods to once again come to their aid. After countless hours and at the point of wanting to give up, the eighteen men began to glow and beams of light shot from their bodies towards the moon. The moon began to glow two different colors, red and blue. As the colors separated, the creatures and the spirits began to fade from the land of man, caught in the rays of the moon as three worlds, once one, were created in the night sky.One a world of never ending darkness, where the creatures dwell, awaiting the day that they can once again taste the sweet blood of man. The second a world of never ending light, caught in the lingering glow of both moons, where the spirits dwell watching over the humans wishing to once again feel their hearts beat as one and their minds meld. Last the world of both light and dark, where the humans dwell. The eighteen warriors watched in amazement but then in horror as they realized the five original warriors were slowly disappearing as well. In a panic, they all huddled together and held onto each other, hoping they could use their combined powers to keep them anchored to this world."Do not fear my children; I am bringing you to the light of the world where you shall be guardians of the bridge that connects the three worlds. As for the chosen thirteen, you shall be kings of this land, guide it on the path of righteousness and teach it what is good and true."Nodding in understanding that this was their god, they moved away from each other and waved good-bye with teary eyes as they would no longer walk upon the same earth nor would they see the same sky.The thirteen warriors became kings and brought the world back from the brink of chaos. Two hundred years passed and the new generation of the world had all but forgotten the horrors that once plagued their world. The thirteen kings decided then that it was time for the world to guide itself and one night they found themselves back upon the mount. Silently they disappeared from the world of light and dark. Although the war has disappeared from our world, there is a continuous battle that rages on away from the eyes of the humans, in the realm of the warriors. Many have been called forth to have power gifted unto them. At times the need was strong and a great number of man were gifted and at others but a few. Nevertheless, always was the power present, as a guardian, a leader, a king, or even a god.The last known battle was said to have been great and could have devastated the earth, but five chosen men were able to stop it and ban the dark creatures back to their own world, for a time at least. They say that the battle will never truly be won and the war will be never ending for how can one know there is light if there is no darkness and how can there be no shadows without light.Legend tells, that when the light of the moons touch and they become one, a bridge is opened between the worlds and the fight begins again. When that time arrives, the gods once again bestow a great power upon the purest of heart and the strongest of soul…Luhan lifted his hand and outlined the moons as his grandmother’s tale ran through his mind. The simple story always enraptured him as a child and he imagined himself beside the young woman, fighting for the well-being of humankind. Or as one of the Chosen in the last battle, fighting side-by-side, strong as can be.A smile crept onto his lips as he thought of the utter ridiculousness of it all. It was just an old myth told to young children to instill courage and strength in times of hard ship. It was just like the Greek myths he was taught in high school. Stories of heroism and gods with hidden meanings meant to subtly teach listeners how to be or act in a certain manner. Looking at the two moons one last time, Luhan scoffed loudly and turned his back to the night sky, ready to sleep the remainder of the night away. With his back turned to the sky, Luhan missed the spectacular sight of the lights of the two moons just begin to graze each other and a small glowing ball descended towards the earth, near his home. As it came closer, the one ball broke off into eleven smaller ones that surrounded his home. “Are you sure we have found him?” a deep voice resonated from one of the lights. “Yes, this is where the twelfth member is, I can always find him.” Another voice rang out as the light surrounding it slowly moved towards a window before slipping inside the house. After a moment, the remaining ten lights followed and the world outside the little country home went dark once more.
