Let The Games Begin
In 2017, aliens first made contact with the Earth. Despite their initially friendly demeanor it soon became clear that the goal for making contact was a simple matter of exploitation. Humans and aliens broke out into a brutal war that left much of Earth in wreckage. Scrambling to re-establish order, the remaining nations combined to form the United Nations, named after its precedor as an attempt to remember and uphold that spirit. The war continued until 2020 where finally a fragile peace treaty was signed. Instead of wars, a competition took its place. Like gladiator matches, the two sides sent their best and bravest warriors to compete, and the losing side would provide the winners with one years worth of natural resources. As more and more worlds began to make contact with Earth, more competitors joined into the battle and it has since become a symbol of domination, a way for the races to save the desperate conditions of their homes. Every year Earth sifts through all of its graduating classes for the top students. From a pool of thousands just 200 are selected. And from that 200, just twenty pass the initioal training phase to compete in the games. Each year the games are different, designed to test wit, bravery and teamwork in its participants. Humans themselves evolved to meet their competition as mutations made their way into the genetic code. Humans began to develop super-human abilities such as super strength, super speed, immunity to all toxins etc. The new generation, born to defend what is left of the earth. The Games are madatory and at such high stakes the world has no tolerance for failure. The war continued until 2020 where finally a fragile peace treaty was signed.
