Chapter Thirty-Four (1/1)
The awaited day finally came, the wedding and engagement day. Everyone became more busy, especially the Capulets. Before the wedding ceremony started, Claire went to Elizabeth’s room. “Eonni.” Claire called Elizabeth as soon as she entered the room. “Oh Claire.” Elizabeth reacted. “You look more beautiful with that gown.” And then, she smiled to her. “Claire, this is your last chance to back off.” Elizabeth approached. Claire slowly shook her head and smiled. “This is my final decision, eonni.” She hugged Elizabeth from behind. “I want you and Evo to be happy together from now on.” She told her. “Don’t worry about me, okay?” Elizabeth sighed and tapped her head softly. She looked at Claire’s reflection in the mirror. “Thank you very much, eonni.” Claire added. xXxXx
Few minutes later, the wedding already started. Everyone who was on the wedding was very happy for Evo and Elizabeth. The atmosphere became more alive when the priest said the sentence ‘you may now kiss the bride.’ Evo and Elizabeth happily faced the crowd first before they kissed. After the kiss, everyone stood up and clapped their hands. And then, unexpectedly, the heir of the Capulet clan and his wife went to the altar. “To make everyone be happier,” The heir’s wife said in French. “My beloved husband and I want to announce a very important thing for our family.” And then, she called Claire and Yves in front. “I would like to announce that our daughter, Louise Claire Evangeline and monsieur Jean-Pierre Yves Montague will follow Marie Elizabeth’s and Jean Evo’s path.” The crowd was surprised by what the madame said. “Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to announce the engagement between our Claire Evangeline and monsieur Jean-Pierre.” The happiness that the crowd felt can clearly be seen. They were clapping their hands and cheering for the two, but Yves cut it off. “Everyone, I would like to say something too.” Everyone calmed down a bit. “I want to tell all of you that I’ll back off from the engagement between me and this mademoiselle in front.” Everyone was confused about what he said. “What are you saying?” the mad madame asked Yves. She was very irritated because of Yves’ sudden actions. “Madame, I won’t allow myself to be engaged with this” He faced Claire. “mademoiselle who doesn’t even love me in the first place.” He stated. “Yves.” Claire whispered, enough for Yves to hear. He smiled to her. “Now, I’m leaving this place.” And then, he left. “Hey! Wait!” Claire followed him and it made everyone more confused. xXxXx
“Hey! Yves! Yves!” Claire kept on calling him until he finally stopped walking and faced her. “What are you thinking?!” She asked. “Why are you doing this?!” He went closer to her and said, “You wanna know why?” She nodded and waited for his reason. “Because, I’ve fallen in love with you.” Her eyes opened widely and her mouth slightly opened because of his confession. “Wua… What are you—” “When our parents introduced us to each other, I started to like you because I always remember Elizabeth in you.” He stated. “I thought, by liking you that way, I’ll feel that I’m with her again.” “Eee… Eee..” “But as time passed by, I started to love you for who you are.” He cupped her right cheek and smiled. “I want you to be honest with your feelings, Claire.” He pulled her and started to walk on the way where he was to go. “What are you thinking?” She asked. They went outside where they met Alice, Eli and Kibum. “You’ve been protecting them for a long time, right?” Yves told her. “Especially, him.” Yves let go his hold on Claire as someone hugged Claire from her back. “Wue .. wue .. Wait!” Claire reacted. She was still surprised because of what was happening. When she was free from the hug, she immediately looked at the person who hugged her. “Ke … … vin.” Tears suddenly fell from Claire’s eyes. “Ke—” She wasn’t able to finish talking because Kevin pulled her and kissed her. After a few seconds, she closed her eyes and pushed her lips to him. And then, unexpectedly, “What’s the meaning of this?” the madame asked. She was with the monsieur and both of them saw the kiss. “Answer me!” the madame exclaimed. Kevin hid Claire behind him and faced Claire’s parents. “You must be Kevin Woo.” The monsieur said. Kevin nodded. “Then, these two gentlemen at my right are Kibum Kim and Elison Kim.” “Yes, monsieur.” Eli said. “Come with me, I want to talk to the three of you. Especially you, Mr. Woo.” “Father, I’m going –” “You’re going to stay with Alice Jacqueline and Jean-Pierre.” The monsieur cut her off and then, he left. Eli and Kibum followed him afterwards. Kevin smiled and told Claire not to worry. Claire wasn’t able to do anything. After Kevin left, “You’re really a black sheep.” The irritated madame said. “You’re really ‘that lady’s’ child. You both always destroy my plans.” And then, she walked out. When the madame left, Alice went closer to Claire and comforted her. “Everything will be alright.” She said. xXxXx
Meanwhile in the monsieur’s office, “the three of you went here to stop the engagement. Am I correct?” the monsieur asked in Hangul. The three were surprised because the monsieur spoke in Hangul. “Yes …. Monsieur.” Kibum responded. The monsieur pointed Eli. “So, Elison Kim is Alice’s boyfriend.” He said. “And the two of you are in love with my daughter, right?” The three answered with yes. And then, the monsieur looked at Kevin. “And, you’re the guy who she likes.” He said. “Do you think I’ll let you have my beloved daughter that easily?” he asked Kevin. Eli and Kibum gulped hard because of nervousness, but Kevin didn’t show his nervousness. xXxXx
It was already evening when the conversation between the monsieur and the three gentlemen finished. The monsieur asked a maid to lead Eli, Kibum and Kevin to where the mademoiselle was. When the three went there, Claire immediately asked what her father talked with them about. “I didn’t expect that he knows us.” Eli started telling story. “I mean, he knows us U-KISS.” “He said that he and our boss have a special connection with each other.” Kibum added. “Claire, what is it?” he asked. “CEO Kim is my mother’s dongsaeng. Didn’t father tell you?” her answer made the two quite stunned. “Wait, I want to know what father’s reaction was. What did he tell the three of you?” she asked again. “Well, he told us that he’ll let you love on your own.” Kibum said. “And then?” “He’ll let you stay in Korea, again.” Claire and Alice were very happy to hear that. “But, there is a condition.” Kibum added. “What is it?” Alice asked. “Claire will be able to go back to Korea after his 55th birthday.” Alice suddenly frowned. “What?” Claire sighed and smiled to them. “It’s okay. It’s just a year.” She said. “Right?” Claire looked at Kevin. “Well … Yeah?” Kevin has been spacing out for awhile. “It looks like you two need to talk.” Eli said. “Oh! No need! No need!” Kevin shook his hands and smiled awkwardly. “Is that so? Then, it’s better if you guys leave already.” Claire’s mood suddenly changed. “Please, rest well.” She started walking away without looking back. “Hey!” Kibum whispered to Kevin. “Are you stupid? Go follow her! Remember that we have to go back to Korea later!” Kevin followed Claire and tried to cope up with her. He stopped walking when she stopped and then, the both kept quiet for awhile. “Hey!” Kevin approached Claire, but she ignored him. “Are you mad or something?” Kevin asked her, but still no answer from the mademoiselle. “Hey Claire.” Kevin came closer to her. “Claire.” He called her again. And then, Claire started to sob which made Kevin quite surprised. When Claire sobbed louder, he hugged her again from behind. “It’s just a year. I can wait for that short time.” He told her. “I won’t let tears run down on your face because of me again.” Claire faced him and hugged him back. “Be sure to wait for me.” She said. “Or else, I won’t let you be happy.” Kevin chuckled. “Yes, yes, I will.” He said.
