A Short Absence (1/1)

Yunho checked his watch and paced the living room.  “What do you mean you haven’t heard from him since yesterday?”            Yesung sighed.  “Sungmin received a short text from Kyuhyun in the middle of the night saying he’d found Wookie and he’d talk to us later but that’s all I heard from him.”            “We should be leaving for the airport any minute,” he insisted.            “Don’t worry, I’m a professional at getting people to airports on time,” Eunhyuk informed him.  “Mr. Cho’s schedule was so busy back in the day when he was singing, we were always in a rush to catch a plane.  I’ll get you there on time.”            That seemed to do nothing to calm Yunho and Leeteuk whispered to Kangin, “Where’s your sister at?”            “Baking, I think.”                                                                                               Leeteuk walked to the back of the house and smiled warmly as his eyes connected with Boa’s.  “That smells delicious,” he admitted when she removed two pies from the oven.            “It’s for dessert,” she warned him teasingly.            “Perhaps I could trouble you to get Yunho a drink?  He’s getting nervous because Kyuhyun’s not back yet and I think he’s just a little tired from the drive here.  Maybe something iced?”            “Sure,” she said.  “I’ll be right out.”            Leeteuk thanked her and headed back to the living room.            Kangin gave him a questioning look.  “What are you up to?”            “I’m taking control of this situation,” he decidedly told Kangin.            “We’re supposed to be there a couple hours ahead of time,” Yunho reminded Eunhyuk.            Eunhyuk scrunched up his face and shook his head at Yunho.  “Heechul strolls in maybe a half hour before his flights, if that.  He’s never missed a plane yet.  It’s the tiniest little airport around, they don’t care.”            “He’s a famous actor and they get away with all sorts of deplorable behavior!  The airport doesn’t want bad press,” Yunho countered.            “Mr. Cho’s famous,” Donghae came to Eunhyuk’s defense.            “He was famous,” Yunho corrected him.  “He hasn’t made a public appearance in years.”            “Hello, Yunho,” Boa greeted the irate man, sweeping into the room with a tray full of glasses and a pitcher of iced tea.  “Are you thirsty?”            Yunho’s features softened the moment he turned around to face her and he gave her a lopsided grin.  “Ah, good afternoon, Boa.  I am a little thirsty.   It’s so sweet of you to think of me.”            Kangin groaned to himself as he watched his sister and Yunho chat back and forth.            “He seems nice enough,” Leeteuk quietly said.  “Smart, hardworking…”            “He’s a nerd,” Kangin grumbled.            “One that really seems genuinely interested in your sister.”            “As opposed to Siwon?”            “If Heechul was a girl, he’d be after him too,” Leeteuk pointed out.            “You think he has some weird preoccupation with dating one of Kyuhyun’s relatives, is that the assumption?”             “You have a better theory?”            Kangin shrugged.  “I assumed he just didn’t get out much.”            “I’m afraid too many of us have that issue.”            Just then they heard the back door close loudly and Kyuhyun’s voice as he entered and then made his way down the hall and into the living room with Ryeowook in tow.  “Hey!” Kyuhyun said, raising his hand at the group gathered there.  “Sorry to keep you waiting.  I’ll just run upstairs to change and pack my bag.”            “I packed your bag already,” Yesung informed him.            “Thanks,” he said, nodding to his butler before running up the stairs to his bedroom.            Leeteuk looked over at Ryeowook, who still stood in the doorway looking down at a cellphone in his hands.  “Welcome back, Wookie,” Leeteuk said.            Ryeowook looked up at him and smiled wide.  “Thank you.”            “What are you doing?”            “Well, Kyuhyun bought me this new cellphone and I’m not really sure how to work it yet,” he admitted, biting his lip as he hit a few buttons.            “Lemme see!” Donghae hollered excitedly, rushing over and looking at the newest cellphone technology.  “Ah, sweet!  Mr. Cho really is nice to you!  I wish he’d buy me one.”            Kangin smacked him in the head.  “You’re an idiot.  Kyu isn’t about to buy his cook a cellphone just so he could text him what he wants for dinner.”            “I wouldn’t put it past him,” Eunhyuk mumbled.            “I take it you two have made up now,” Kangin inquired.
