Chapter 1 (1/1)
Third Person’s POV“Seoul International High School,” Luhan read out in utter disbelief. Baekhyun shrugged as he slumped himself down comfortably into the office chair, raising a brow at Luhan’s exaggerated reaction to the card he picked.“It can’t be that bad, can it?” Baekhyun asked suspiciously, proceeding to turn over the rest of the cards. Busan International High School, Cheonggu High School, Kyungnam High School and the last possible option was, Gyeonggi Science High School. He flinched at the word since it was a subject that he had always loathed.“I don’t really see how Seoul International High School is a bad option,” he added now that he had seen all the other options behind the cards. Snatching the card away from Luhan’s hands, he scrutinized it further, eyes turning into slits. He didn’t know why Luhan was acting like this; neither could he understand.“Seoul International High School is the most popular one out of the rest. I was hoping you wouldn’t pick that,” Luhan admitted as Baekhyun gave him a bizarre look. What’s wrong with popular?“We’re supposed to try and keep as many people away from you as possible, Baek” He reminded Baekhyun, who frowned as he heard those words. Oh right.“I’ll be fine,” Baekhyun forced a smile, even though deep in his heart―it still caused a crippling affliction to know that he was different from the others.Byun Baekhyun was one who was born with an exceptional power, which none have even seen or heard of it. It was not perceptible unless he has decided to make use of it. He could not manipulate it at times. But that only occurs when he could not manage and control his emotions. It seldom, or maybe even rarely occurs. For his whole life, it only happened once. And that was when he was a toddler, attending his kindergarten like any other children. An enemy of his damaged his favourite robotics toy, and that caused him to be boiling in fury. The next thing they knew, Baekhyun sent a flying chair to the culprit.Ever since then, he got apprehended by the scientists for further investigations. Because of his powers, he was kept away from the public, never went for a school afterwards. He didn’t have a single friend, and was constantly being home-schooled. He has to conceal his identity thoroughly. No one knows the reason for his powers. He is a human, maybe just not a 'normal' one like the others. He had the power to control things. And that included quite everything. It changed after he met Luhan, a son of his mother’s friend. Gradually after they met each other, they started to become the best of friends. Luhan’s mother had always apprised Luhan that Baekhyun was different from the others, afraid that her own son would be hurt after finding out the truth. At first, Luhan took his mother’s words as a pinch of salt and felt that Baekhyun was easy-going and just like the others. It was until the day he knew the truth, Luhan was scared. Nonetheless, Luhan felt sympathy towards Baekhyun was determined to help him. He trusts Baekhyun and knew that he was not harmful. Thus, Baekhyun has decided to enrol into a High School. “You have to listen carefully to me, Baek” Luhan huffed in vexation as he grabbed hold of a sheet of white paper. He swiftly took out a pen from the stationary holder on the table as he wrote down a couple of sentences. Baekhyun lethargically moved to the table in the office chair as he browsed through the sentences after Luhan had finished writing.“Firstly, you have to be as careful as you can,” Luhan read from the paper, often switching his attention from the paper to Baekhyun. “With that, I mean that no one, and absolutely no one, should know of your powers.” Baekhyun rolled his eyes heavily and nodded.“Secondly, you can have friends,” Luhan mentioned in an enthusiastic tone before his tone dissipated. “But no girls. Girls are a pain in the ass.” Baekhyun gave another dismissive shrug.“Thirdly, control your emotions. You are very well aware of the consequences to that,” Luhan said in a warning tone. A shiver ran down Baekhyun’s spine at the thought of what would happened if his emotions could not be controlled.“That’s about the same as the first point,” Baekhyun grumbled.“Whatever.”Baekhyun scowled at Luhan, as Luhan gave the paper a last satisfying look before pushing it to Baekhyun. “That’s about it, you can have fun at your new school.” Luhan grinned from ear to ear. Baekhyun let out a light scoff and stretched his arms while he stood up from the office chair.“Thanks Luhan. I’ll do my best” Baekhyun corroborated with a smirk before he was about to leave the room when he felt a grip on his wrist. “And one more thing, Baekhyun,” Baekhyun turned around, just to meet Luhan who had a solemn expression on his face, as if the next thing he was about to say was serious.“Do not fall in love,” Luhan warned with an encouraging smile.******* “Seoul International High School, I’ll be attending that.” Jieun said in a jovial tone through the phone. The person on the other line was none other than Soojin, her ‘Seoul’ friend. Jieun was unpacking her essential items from her luggage. In search for a more extravagant and better life, she migrated to Seoul and moved into a terraced house. Her family was still living in America but the fact that they were Koreans made Jieun feel culpable. However, her opinions were not the same as her parents. That was the reason why she came to Seoul alone. Her parents who were perturbed by her opinion couldn’t stop her from coming because of her stubbornness. Instead, they could only assist her by giving her what she needed the most; cash. Her family was wealthy and her father planning on building another company was a sign of their growing affluence. She could hear silence on the other line, causing her to be flustered as she thought something was wrong with the phone.“Really?” Soojin then shouted in a voice filled with effervescene. Jieun was perplexed for a moment on why Soojin was in high spirits when she realized the possibility.“You’re attending that too?” Jieun exclaimed through the phone before both girls started to laughed simultaneously. If they weren’t on the phone, they would probably dance in gaiety, having found out about this overwhelming news.“Do you know anything about the school?” Soojin questioned curiously, faint tapping on the keyboard could be heard through the call as Jieun chuckled in amusement, knowing that her friend’s searching online about the High School. “I’m not sure. Why don’t you tell me?” Jieun retaliated as she stood up, dusting herself.“How did you know I was researching?” Soojin asked, muddled by her question. “I can hear you typing,”“I found something! Seoul International High School’s a school where talents could be developed in the students through their teaching,” Soojin interrupted as she read off from some website. Jieun derided what Soojin said as what all schools would mention at their website as a matter of fact.“Forget it. I’m exhilarated to go to that school. Let’s meet at the gate when school starts,” Jieun suggested which Soojin gladly accepted.“Sure!”Your POV“Jieun!” A girl in Seoul International High School uniform darted towards me. She had golden brown hair that was neatly tied to the back, even though some strands naturally fell. Her fringe was twirled to the back loosely. Generally, she looked prepossessing. It didn’t take me long before I recognized her.“Soojin!” I screamed in joy as I gave her a bear hug. The last time I saw her was before my family moved to America. Yes, I used to stay in Seoul. That was why I’m a Korean. I observed her from head to toe after the hug, and surprisingly, she changed a lot.“You changed so much! I almost couldn’t recognize you!” I commented as her cheeks turned crimson red upon hearing my remark about her new appearance.“Is that considered as a praise?” she gave a bashful smile. I knew that she’s farouche, but only towards strangers. And I wasn’t a stranger to her.“Of course! You look pretty!” I complimented as her blush turned into an even darker shade of red after hearing my words.“Let’s go,”Soojin friskily linked arms with me as she dragged me into the school since we were outside at the entrance. Before I knew it, I was standing in what appeared to be the foyer of the school. My jaws sagged in disbelief as the foyer was enormous. It had walls that were painted sky blue, with a statue in the middle that represented the school logo. Floors were marble tiles and my eyes twinkled in exhilaration. There was a visible look of ecstasy on Soojin’s face similarly. We were both awed at the school.“Now this isn’t something I had expected,” I gasped, dumbstruck.“Let’s go get our timetable,”******* I checked her timetable with mine as my face lightened up when I found out that we were in the same class. “We’re in the same class,” I beamed. Soojin couldn’t believe it either as her eyes went rounded and wide. Looks like luck is on our side.“Guys, did you hear about it? There’ll be an exchange student coming into our class!” One of our classmates murmured to another one’s ear. Apparently, it’s not really a whisper since I could hear it from the seat beside. Soojin and I settled down into two seats near the windows at the back of the classroom. The teacher wasn’t present yet and many students were seizing this opportunity to be acquainted with one another. My ears perked up at the mention of an exchange student.“Did you hear that?” I asked Soojin, who had her eyes fixed on the book that she was reading. Soojin’s a bookworm most of the times, she had a thing for books. She nodded, not really bothered by that since her attention was still on the book.“I wonder who that is. I mean, it’s not easy to get in here as an exchange student,” I uttered.“He or she must be real popular then, to have the whole school talking about it,” Soojin shrugged impassively as she tucked a few strands of her fringe behind her ear.“The whole school?”“I heard about it along the corridor when we’re on our way here,” she said, flipping to a new page of her book.“Well then, I’m looking forward to that person since he or she is in our class,” I smiled broadly. Maybe it’s a ‘she’ and we could be good friends. I got distracted when the teacher trotted in, with documents in his hands. Soojin hurriedly kept the book too as the whole classroom turned noiseless.*******“It’s a guy,” I sluggishly poked the sausage that was in the plate. It was the break time and Soojin and I were in the canteen. Previously, after the lesson ended, some of our classmates were chattering about the exchange student again. My ears caught a sentence that made me surprised―‘It’s a cute guy I think,’ “What’s wrong with it being a guy?” Soojin popped one sausage into her mouth as she masticated it. “I don’t know,” I questioned myself why I was affected about the news too. “I think I was just praying too hard for it to be a girl so we could be friends,”“Did you forget about me?” Soojin mischievously waved a few fingers in front of my face as I rolled my eyes with a simper.“Hey guys!” Hye Mi, a friend that we made during the morning, approached us with a bright grin. She was congenial and I thought that being friends with her won’t be that bad of an idea. Besides, we had quite a number of common similarities and hobbies.“You guys talking about the exchange student?” I nodded, looking up.My eyebrow arched when Hye Mi fished out her phone from her pocket out of the blue, typing something quickly.“What are you doing?” I peered over to look at her screen as she continued to search for something. “His name’s Baekhyun if I’m not wrong,” she showed me a photo that was flashing on her phone. It was a photo of a guy who had black hair that was combed down as it framed neatly on his forehead. His eyes turned into crescent moons as he smiled. He had a pointy nose and his thin lips that curled into a small smile. He looked…“Handsome right?” Hye Mi interrupted my thoughts as my eyes just kept staring at the profile. In fact, they couldn’t leave the sight of the photo. There is something about him.“Yea,” Soojin replied instead.“That’s why the whole schools upside down because of this one guy,” Hye Mi scoffed incredulously as I lent her phone to have a closer look. “Byun Baekhyun,”I unconsciously muttered his name as I read his profile. He was 17 years old but his middle school, kindergarten and others were not mentioned in his profile. They were left blank. Why is his profile even on the school's website? Just…what is the identity of this guy?*******Author's NoteFirst chapter is up! They haven't met up yet so things aren't as exciting in this chapter. Hopefully, I'll get the second chapter up in no time. Since now that Baekhyun's identity is exposed, do feel free to ask any questions if there's any doubts. I have to mention Baekhyun's identity in this chapter because it'll be way complicated if I don't. The schools listed in this chapter are all real schools in Seoul.
