Our Meeting (1/1)

“Woohyun!.” Someone shouted in my ear as I walked out the front doors. I flinched as I looked up from my book and saw an unfamiliar face. He didn’t seem to notice me at all so I shifted my attention towards the boy he called to.     He was also an unfamiliar face. I held the book opened in front of my face but kept my gaze on the new kid as I continued walking to my next class.* Hmm, he seems different... he’s definitely not from here. Wait what was his name again? Woohun? Mmm no.... think Meena think, it was literally shouted directly into your ear a minute ago. Come on Meena..... oh I got it..... Woohyun.* I mentally cheered as I took one last glance at him.“Bang!”As the book was blocking my view I embarrassedly ran into a light pole. Once I pulled the book away from my face everyone was already looking at me....... including the new student. He had a playful smile on his face trying hard to hold in his laugher. I quickly facepalmed myself as I rubbed the side of my head placing my book in my bag before continue walking. When the last class finally arrived I took my seat and waited patiently for the chief/teacher by reading the cookbook, seeing what I could make today. Being so concentrated in the book I didn’t even realize someone sat next to me.“Jeo gi.”  He spoke, his voice was deep and husky. I placed the cookbook down and turned to look who the voice belonged to. Woohyun.“Mmm?” I answered enabled to speak naturally. Then he started speaking to me in another language, a language that I would love to learn but could not fully understand no matter how much I try, but yet again I did answer him when he asked for my attention. “Mian, I don’t know much Korean.” I smiled in apology looking down at my hands.“Hmm I know.” He returned a smile speaking in almost perfect Mandarin. I was left surprised as he continued. “Does the side of your head still hurt?”I looked at him with big eyes not knowing what he was talking about but a second later everything came back. I lowered my head in embarrassment. “Ani.” I answered. He grinned and poked me on the left side of my head. “Ahh,” I let out quietly “Liar.” He chuckled and gently rubbed my head again. I looked down shocked in his sudden movement, but it was actually helping the pain. I cleared my throat and looked up. He was so focused on the bruise like he didn’t care for anything else in the world.  “There. Is it better now?” I slowly nodded my head in reply and thanked him.“Well you already know who I am... may I ask for your name?” “Meena.” I answered. He smiled at my name and got back to the class work.“So, what do you want to make today?” He asked after putting his apron on. I shrugged my shoulders and focused on the book again. “What about bossam?”He asked.I looked at him funny having no idea what he’s saying.“Wrapped pork in greens, like steamed cabbage leaves.”He explained but still I was completely lost. “What about Kimchi Stew then? I have most confident in cooking that.” He smiled at me as I finally  nodded in reply.Even though we’re in a school in China, the classroom was filled with everything in every country worldwide. No matter what kind of food you’re cooking you’ll always be able to find your ingredients. Woohyun motioned me to come over to help him carry the ingredients over to the cutting counter.“So are you an exchange student?” I asked as my curiosity got the best of me.“Mmm, I’m part of the exchange program at my school.” He explained as he continued to chop the scallions. “Me and my Korean classmates are staying here for a couple of months before we go back to Korea.” He finished.“Oh so you’re going back.” I said but it somehow came out in a sadish way.“You’re welcome to join us, I mean your school has a exchange program as well. I think the next exchange is Seoul.... where I’m from.” He gave me a smile at the end then focused his attention back on cubbing the tofus. I nodded not even knowing that we had a exchange program.“Korea?” I asked shyly. Ever since 8th grade I’ve been dieing to go to Korea, but only one thing stopped me, not understanding the language. “Don’t worry.... someone would tutor you before your trip.” He said before I even told him what was weighing on my mind. He began slicing the meat after glancing at me. “I can do it if you don’t feel comfortable with strangers.” He suddenly asked. I looked up surprised in his kind offer and chuckled because he was a stranger as well.“It’s okay... I don’t want to bother you.” “No worries, it’s basically our homework...... we’re here to tutor students who are interested in the Korean exchange.” I nodded understanding his words. “So does this weekend work for you?”“Nae.”“Great, I’ll see you at the public library then?” I nodded and watched him finish the Kimchi Stew. And the result, surprisingly the stew turned out fabulous. He sure has a lot of passion in cooking. As the tutoring continued for the whole four months he was here our friendship grew stronger. We became best friends, we were able to tell each other anything and he was a great listener when I had my bad days. Sadly when his day of departure came I broke down in tears. I just wasn’t able to say goodbye seeing how close we’ve become. He means more than a friend to me, he’s just too special.........like something you never want to let go.“I’ll see you soon Na Na.” Woohyun held his arms out with a big smile on his face. I wrapped my arms around his slim waist while his arms closed in. “I promise you... I’ll be the first one you’ll see in the airport.” He playfully squeezed me tighter and let's go.“I’ll be counting down Woo.” I smiled into his eyes and gazed at him one last time. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------  How is the first chapter guys?
