The next morning, the Omegas wake as normal and go to the showers, washing themselves quickly. Hongbin looks over at Hakyeon about halfway through their allotted bathing time and watches the Omega rinse his hair out, arms stretched up and back slightly arched so he can reach properly. Hongbin can’t help but move his eyes down, traveling them over the other’s damp, tanned torso. He sees not a mark on it, nothing but smooth, untouched flesh and he wonders what it would feel like under the palms of his hands. What would Hakyeon do, he thought, if he were to take him by his hips and press him up against a shower wall right now? Would he push him away? Would he draw attention to them? Would he get upset again?Or would he pull Hongbin closer, would he let him touch him, would he commit that treason with him?“Hongbin,” Hakyeon’s voice calls, bringing him out of his musings, “Please stop staring at me.”Realizing his eyes have been glued to Hakyeon that whole time, Hongbin averts his gaze.“Sorry,” He mumbles, going back to washing himself. He can’t help but see that image in his head again, though, the image of Hakyeon pressed between himself and a wall, his lips parted as he runs his fingers over wet, silky skin, Hongbin’s mouth glued to the Butterfly mark on his neck. Hongbin imagines Hakyeon would fist his hands in his hair, his face would flush, he would moan and Hongbin would have to cover his mouth with a hand so they wouldn’t get caught. “Omegas of two-thousand, nine-hundred eighty: You have now finished your showers, and are to make your way to the dining hall for breakfast. Be there no later than in five minutes. Jekyll City thanks you for your cooperation.” Hongbin feels the water shut off and he forces himself back to reality, a reality where he can’t run his hands over Hakyeon’s body, where he can’t make him moan, where he can’t kiss the Butterfly mark on his neck. He reaches forward and grabs the grey towel, beginning to dry himself off.  “I’m nervous about our physical examination today,” Hakyeon confides in Hongbin quietly as they eat their breakfast, the same nutrition bar and glass of water as usual, only with the addition of the second bar which gives Omegas hormones to get their bodies ready for childbearing after Selection Day. “Why?” Hongbin asks as he takes a bite of the normal bar, even though he already knows the answer.“It’s because the examiners are Alpha doctors,” Hakyeon tells him, “I’m worried they might try something, or hurt me. You know Alphas.”Hongbin sighs. “I know, I know. I’ll be there if the Alpha tries to hurt you.”Hakyeon gives him a look. “You and I both know it’s against the rules to interfere with anyone’s private assessment, exam, or class.”“It’s against the rules to do anything here,” Hongbin replies, “But I promised to protect you.” This leaves Hakyeon without a response. He just lets out a hesitant breath before finishing off his normal, first nutrition bar. He eyes the second, and sees that the only difference it has from the first is that it’s slightly smaller. Everything else from color to texture is identical. Picking it up, he internally shrugs before taking a bite. He huffs. Even the taste, or the absence of taste rather, is the same.“Is that one different?” He asks to change the topic, gesturing towards the new food. For some reason, Hongbin finds himself reluctant to eat it. Hakyeon shakes his head.“Not at all. Tastes just like the other one,” Hakyeon replies, taking another bite. He sighs. “I just hope everything goes okay today.”Hongbin looks at him, taking in the small grooves of worry etching themselves onto his face. He feels guilty, wishing there was some way to take all his stress away. Here, in this city, he can do nothing. All he can do is offer words of comfort.“Me too, Hakyeon,” He says, lips pulled into a small frown. “Me too.”Hakyeon pops the last bit of food in his mouth, and Hongbin turns back to his own plate, which still has the second bar on it. He squints at it, picking it up between two fingers. Sighing, he sets it back down on his plate. “I don’t know about this new bar.”The Omega beside him sets his now empty glass of water down and gives him a strange look. “What do you mean?”“I don’t think I want to eat it.”Hakyeon’s eyebrows furrow. “Why not? You can’t tell the difference.”“But it is different,” Hongbin sighs, eyeing the food. “They said it prepares your body for childbearing. But, what does it actually do to you?”“Hongbin, we have to eat it. We don’t have a choice,” Hakyeon tells him, voice low. Hongbin frowns.“I don’t want to eat it,” He decides, “And if I don’t want to, I won’t.”Taking the bar in his hand again, he cautiously looks around. Making sure no one his watching, he discretely slips it into his pocket. Hakyeon’s eyes widen.“Hongbin, what are y—”“Don’t draw attention,” Hongbin warns him quietly, “Just trust me on this.”Hakyeon suppresses his urge to shout. “And what about me? I ate it already
