Chapter 5: Origo (1/1)
The never ending search for the doppelganger still continues. The tech junkie Eunhyuk is in front of his precious laptop searching about Seoul’s founding families, and Sungmin was on his side assisting him.“How do you find someone whom you haven’t seen before?” Eunhyuk popped the question, yet no one seemed to know the correct answer.Donghae sighed rolling his eyes and stood up from the couch inside their library. He went to the counter where some liquor are placed and took a glass and poured a glass of scotch. “That’s what I’ve been telling you before. But no, all of you didn’t even listen. It’s impossible to find the doppelganger if none of us knew how she looks like.”True enough, everything he said before was all correct. All of them stopped and frustration is painted all over their faces. “Unless,” he then started to talk, “unless we bring this oh-so-centuries-long research with us to the public library. Now, why haven’t I thought of that before? Oh yeah, I’ve been busy hunting and watching you guys read the same scroll over and over again.”“Babo anya? You told us yourself, no one knew how she looked like. How is this related to the public library?”“Heechul hyung, think about it. It’s a library, meaning there are books, articles and other archives of every history and events there in Seoul alone. Then we look for the compilation of the first families who lived here before, so after getting the list we start searching again if the descendants of the founding families are still here. So basically we have to go back to square one because you guys are busy looking for this doppelganger whom you haven’t have any idea how she looks like,” he then took a sip on scotch after a long explanation.“Donghae-ah, why are you telling this now?” The frustrated Leeteuk questioned his brother.“I told you, you guys are always busy looking over those super old scrolls and whenever I say anything you guys don’t listen. Now is it still my fault? Aish, jinjja!”“Hm, you have more brains that I thought you have.” Sungmin commented, impressed from Donghae’s explanation.“So since Donghae hyung mentioned the public library, let’s also try the local museum, for sure we can find some infos there.” Ryeowook added. The 7 of them were about to head out when the telephone started to ring. Leeteuk lifted the handset and answered the call. His brothers were looking at him questioningly as he put down the handset back down.“I need to leave town for a while, I need to go back to Busan. Absolute needs my presence for an important meeting.”Absolute, is the council of first generation vampires. The council was their father’s ally. They were not only a council but also their family, the branch family of the originals.. . . . . . . . . .While Leeteuk left for Busan, the rest divided into two groups in order to finish their assignment in an instant. Heechul dragged Ryeowook and Henry to the museum leaving the other three at the public library. As soon as the 3 entered the premises, each of them took pamphlets and other materials that could help them speed up the process of their assignment. They entered a room with old photos and original documents from the year when it is established as a local city of Seoul. The word ‘Origo’ was carved on the wooden frame of an old photo. The picture caught Henry’s attention, as well as the label that says “Forefathers of Sin Ang : Year 1856”. Taking the advantage that they’re the only ones in the room, he took his phone camera and took a shot of the old photo.Heechul on the other hand was busy looking at the old manuscripts which dated back the time when Sin Ang was established. It has all the names of each family who settled in, in Sin Ang. He particularly scanned the list of the names of the founders of the town, like Henry, he took a couple of shots of the manuscripts using his camera phone.“Hyung, did you get some information?” Ryeowook asked the older vampire as he scanned the place to see if there is still information they can get.“I’m done.” He replied and walked towards their maknae. “Henry-ah, you got any infos?” he then asked.“Yes, got some hyung. I’m all done. I’ll text the others so we can meet them if they’re already finished.”. . . . . . . . . .Same with Heechul’s group, Sungmin, Eunhyuk and Donghae was at the library to do their research. Sungmin approached the librarian and asked a few questions.“Excuse me,” the librarian who was facing her back was startled at Sungmin’s voice.“Ah! Oh, sorry. You startled me. Anything I can do for you, sir?”“Oh sorry,” he smiled at the girl in front of him, “where can I find some history books?” he continued.“History books are on the left wing, starting at the 3rd bookshelf, code is HIS34-0C2 so you can easily look for it.”He thanked her before walking to his brothers, then leading them at the left wing of the library. As soon as they reached the aisle, they individually scanned the shelves for the books they needed for information.“Sungmin hyung, we can’t find anything about Sin Ang. There are Korea’s histories in general. Wars, dynasties, rulers, that kind of stuff.” Eunhyuk walk towards his brother holding books with his brows furrowed.“Yeah, there’s no single book here about Sin Ang. Why is that?” he asked no one in particular.“I’ll try to ask the librarian.” Eunhyuk volunteered. He was standing in front of the librarian at the front desk, “Annyeonghasseyo. Can you help me please?”“Yes sir?” the girl replied. “Are there any books articles or archives about the history of this town?” he asked hoping that the girl could give him the answer he needs. “Left wing sir,” she answered. He looked at the librarian a bit confused, “Actually I’m looking for manuscripts related to Sin Ang. I can’t seem to find it on the left wing. Those are just history books in general.”“Original scrolls and archives about Sin Ang are locked up, but there some at the town’s museum. They also have replicas of the other manuscript that are kept by the town’s officials.”“Oh, you see I’m historian and I’m really interested knowing every single thing here. Is there any way for me to perhaps read the archives?” he tried to convince the girl.“Sorry sir but only those who have permission can have the access to read it” The girl turned her back from Eunhyuk and started to work on the pile of books on her desk. Eunhyuk on the other hand went to his brother to tell them what he found out.“So it’s kept private. Why is that? I mean, why would you keep those kinds of files hidden from the people who are living here?” Sungmin asked no one in particular. After a couple of minutes, “Of course,” Donghae spoke, “So that the unnatural events happened back then will still be kept as a secret from the civilians.”“Okay, that I don’t understand. What’s the logic? Tell me.”“Aish, Eunhyuk-ah. Are you suffering from memory loss? Anyway, remember the time civilians are hunting down witches, maybe that’s one of the reasons why they kept the journals hidden.”“Why would they do that?” Sungmin asked in confusion. “That we don’t know. Maybe there are more secrets to be kept.”There was silence, thinking of how they can get their hands on those manuscripts, unaware of the presence of someone.“Donghae-sshi?” a girl’s voice broke their silence and train of thoughts.“Oh annyeonghasseyo, Seohae-sshi.” It was his classmate in literature. “I didn’t expect to see you here.”“It’s Saturday and I’m bored, so yeah here I am. How about you?”“Ah, just looking at some stuff, for reading.”‘Ahem’ Sungmin groaned, catching the attention of the two. “Oh sorry, these are my brothers. Sungmin hyung and this is Eunhyuk, he’s also studying at the university.”“Oh, nice to meet you. I should probably go. Looks like you guys are looking for something important.”Before the girl could leave, Donghae held her wrist to stop her from leaving. “Ne? Is there a problem?” She asked. “Well, me and my brothers were looking for the archives about Sin Ang and we can’t seem to find it and we’re really interested about Sin Ang’s past. Is there any way you could help us?”Seohae looked at them questioningly. “Have you tried the museum?”“Yeah but we still wanted to know more about Sin Ang.” Half lie, they didn’t go to the museum, yet half true since their siblings went there to look for information. They took their conversation on a table near the shelves of the history books.“What do you want to know about Sin Ang? Maybe I can answer some of your questions.”“How about the founding families, and their lineage? Do they still live here, the immediate families of the forefathers of this town?” Sungmin asked.“Origo.” She spoke, “that’s what the forefathers are called. They say it’s a council, well now it’s like the local government. There are four families in Origo, namely the family of Lim, Goon, Nam and Seong. Years later, one of the families moved out from Sin Ang, causing the 1882 tribal war with other clans that wanted to take over Sin Ang. The 3 families remained in Sin Ang and defeated their enemies leaving them the land for themselves.”“Are there anything else?”“Well that’s all I know.” She looked at her watched and gasped when she saw the time. “Excuse me, I have to go.” The three boys stood up, also preparing to leave the library.“Seohae-sshi, thank you and sorry if we took much of your time.”“It’s nothing. Nice meeting you, Sungmin-sshi, Eunhyuk-sshi. See you at school.”Seohae left and the three walked towards the parking lot to meet with their brothers. There are still missing pieces from the puzzle but thankfully they found a new information for their puzzle.______________________________________why do i feel like this is so "vampire diaries"//kicksself
