16. Cloud Nine (1/1)
Zico walked into the bar, Cloud 9, it was more like a gastropub, hence the name since the beers were expensive. But the food was amazing as well, a place only Yong Guk would pick since he had high-end taste buds. His friend wasn't there yet, as he figured since Yong Guk seemed upset when he called. Zico had an idea as to why, but he would find out soon enough that he didn't need to speculate further. He grabbed a small table in the corner and ordered some cheese fries and tacos, he would order his beer when Yong Guk got there. He wanted to try a blondie that night though, it would be a new experience and plus if anyone had good blondies it would be Cloud 9. He could sense him before he even saw him, Yong Guk was within 5 feet of the place. It was often weird how hyper alert his body was to his kind, he could always tell where they were if they were near him. Zico figured it was some sort of defense mechanism, for self preservation. Zico waved Yong Guk over and he sat across from him. "Hey, hyung." Zico greeted appropriately. "Did you order already?" Yong Guk asked him, getting straight to the point. "Only food. Was waiting for you." Zico answered. Yong Guk smiled and called a girl over, "What do you wanna try?" He asked Zico. "A blondie. Whatever you think is good." Zico told him and Yong Guk nodded, telling the girl his order and she went to go get them two glasses of blonde beer. "You're getting one too?” He asked Yong Guk. “Yeah, might as well. I’ve only had it once anyway, from what I remember it tastes fine, I prefer darker beer though.” Yong Guk explained to him. Zico merely nodded, “So what happened?” He asked, getting straight to business. “What do you mean?” Yong Guk asked back. Zico raised his eyebrow at him, “We both know that something happened. And I know it’s not Mina. So it has to be Jihoon.” He said, deducing carefully. “It’s not like you and Mina fight anyway.” Yong Guk smirked, “That’s true. But yeah, you got it. Jihoon called me up today because he’s nervous about his toy getting with Himchan in this life cycle.” He told Zico. “As if I even talk to Himchan these days." “He is still pining for her huh?” Zico mused softly. “You know that Jihoon is crazy, why do you meet with him when he always gets you this worked up?” He asked. “Because if I put it off, then he’ll assume the worst and then Yoonji would be subject to all of the crazy and I really can’t let her handle that.” Yong Guk answered. “Even if I haven’t seen her in ages, she was still a nice person when I had met her all those years ago. And I highly doubt she’s gonna change.” Zico nodded, he had had the same thought, which is why he wasn’t really worried about them, with the right push that could work out. But first he had to share what he knew. “Hey, hyung.” Zico said, in a more serious tone. Their beers came right on cue and they stopped talking so the waitress wouldn’t hear any of their conversation. She looked at them suspiciously as it grew silent on their table too fast, but she dismissed the thought as she left a drinks menu with them and walked off. Yong Guk gestured for Zico to try a sip of beer first and so the younger man did. He made a face when he felt his tastebuds light up in weird ways. “I take you’re not a fan?” Yong Guk asked him, taking a swig. Zico frowned, “I can see why you like darker beers. That’s weird. And I thought I would have had something like this by now. It’s too light for me. But I can drink it.” He said. “But hyung. I have to tell you something.” Yong Guk looked at him, “What is it?” He said. “I have to tell you about a prophecy I heard the other night. I heard from a real prophetess, while you were in the A.” Zico told him. “It was about us.” “Us?” Yong Guk asked, raising his eyebrow. His tone of voice indicating his misunderstanding of Zico’s words. “The 9 of us.” Zico clarified for him. “The prophecy said, people have to be honest with each other and let their true feelings be known. We need to go with our gut instincts and remember to wear our hearts on our sleeves and make sure we reconcile our differences, if there are any, only then will we be able to find Heaven on Earth.” Zico explained to him. “So we can’t get back into Heaven.” Yong Guk asked. Zico shook his head, “Daniel said it was never a possibility, but he tried to stop the prophecy from being read to me and Hyorin, or any of us for that matter. But he failed.” “What do you mean ‘be true with our feelings’? I entered the Change with Diana and will still remain with Diana.” Yong Guk said, “Nothing is changing there.” Zico pursed his lips thoughtfully, but he already knew the answer. “Your friendship with William, you both have to repair it.” He said. “What. Not since Elizabeth came around. I don’t need him you know.” Yong Guk said indignantly. “It’s not that you need him. You both grew apart but you still wish you were his friend don’t you?” Zico asked. “You know that you do.” Yong Guk glared at him, “I hate you, you know that?” He chugged the last of the beer down and placed the glasses back down heavily on the table. “I’m just telling you what I know.” Zico replied. “Besides, I’m not with Cassandra anymore. I moved out." “You what.” Yong Guk said in shock. “How? When? Why? Wait, no I know why. But when? And how did she take it?” He said, firing questions at him. “After I heard the prophecy, I moved out. You know I don’t love her anymore. So I moved out. I’m probably going to be the first one to act on the prophecy anyway.” Zico told him. “I want to find happiness you know, everyone wants what you and Diana have." “I know. I’m here for you, man. I’m just in shock. She had you around her finger for years and now you break away?” Yong Guk asked. “It took me long enough right?” Zico smirked and chugged the last of the blondie. “Please, let’s get Guiness or something. I kinda miss that crap we used to drink back then.” Yong Guk grinned and waved a waitress over, “You got it." ~ That familiar knock on her door made her change her clothes to something more comfortable than her big t-shirt and she went to answer it. “I brought ice cream and cookies.” Hyorin said, walking into the apartment proudly. Yoonji knew what that meant and she went to her cabinet and took out two spoons. They sat down on her couch and turned on the TV to some random soap opera but kept the volume low. “So, new guy is a no-go?” Yoonji asked, getting straight into the nitty-gritty. “Yeah. He’s crazy too. He thinks I’m his girl, like his girlfriend or something. That’s not even how this works. He knows he pays me to be there right?” Hyorin groaned. “I gotta find some way out before he gets even worse. But it’ll be difficult.” “You could always just quit, then for sure he would be over it?” Yoonji suggested, taking a spoonful of cookie dough ice cream and savored the little bits of dough in her mouth. Hyorin always knew which one to bring by, when they were in the mood for ice cream. “Now, now. Let’s not distract from your problems, girly. We both know something happened to you too.” Hyorin said, wagging her spoon at Yoonji. “What’s up?" Yoonji sighed, there was nothing she could hide from her best friend as always, “We had a dream thing last night. We danced together in a ballroom, I know it’s because when we danced in the club the other night, I had said we never danced like that together. So I’m pretty sure we were in the ballroom for that reason.” She started to explain her dream to her. “Uh huh. So you guys had that thing. Again. Go on.” Hyorin said, eating another spoonful of ice cream. “He said that he was going to make sure he got me this time. Elizabeth wasn’t going to be able to stop him.” She said. “I don’t know what to do. You know Elizabeth is always going to be there.” Hyorin hummed to herself thoughtfully, “You know. Maybe you need to try and make it work with him.” She told her. “What.” Yoonji stared at her in shock. Hyorin shrugged nonchalantly, “Yeah, maybe you have to try and make it work with him. You never know. We’ve always been unhappy and this way, but we both know that we got into this mess because of the love triangle you, Nathaniel and Elizabeth had been in.” She said. “So why not try and make the triangle into a love line?” Yoonji leaned back into the couch, still in shock, “Wow.” Hyorin rolled her eyes at her, “Seriously?” She set the quart down and walked around the apartment. “Where’s your phone?” She said as she found the device on the kitchen counter, she grabbed it and handed it to Yoonji. “Text him. Tell him to take you out tonight.” “Tonight?” Yoonji asked, her voice rising an entire octave. “Yeah. I’ll get you dressed up and all done. And he can drive you.” Hyorin said, “You know I’ll make you look good.” Yoonji bit her lip nervously, “But isn’t it too last minute? What if he’s busy?” “Oh my god. Can you please just get it over with?” Hyorin said, “Or else, I’ll text him for you.” She reached out for Yoonji’s phone and she pulled away from her. “No, I’ll do it.” She said, her thumbs already typing away a message to him. She put her phone face down on the table in front of her couch and ate another spoonful of ice cream in her nervousness. “Now we wait.” Hyorin took the ice cream quart away and put it in Yoonji’s freezer to save for next time they felt in the mood for cookie dough, there were two other flavors in there, coffee and mint chocolate chip. They would have to make sundaes one of these days to binge on. In the silence of the room, they could both hear Yoonji’s phone vibrate. She picked up immediately and her jaw dropped, “Oh my god. What the fuck.” She said. “What the actual fuck.” She repeated. “He said yes, didn’t he?” Hyorin smirked as she crossed her arms over her chest. “I knew it. That boy just wants you so bad.” Yoonji’s jaw wouldn’t close and she just looked at her phone and looked at Hyorin. “Wow.” “Come on, you have a date tonight.” Hyorin grabbed her wrist and dragged Yoonji towards her closet. “We have to get you ready."
