My Weird Bestfriend (1/2)
It is a sunny saturday today. You planned to go to Chanyeol's house this morning to return his lecture notes which you borrowed yesteday in school. You finished copying the missed lesson from your last literature class and you are quiet sure that the things Chanyeol had been babbling to you for the past few days had already made sense. You mentally noted that next time, you wouldn't dare spacing out in the middle of the class again. It was like murdering yourself, and there wasn't a single second in your day not feeling how being oblivious about the discussion sucked.
Well, if you wouldn't be distracted again by a little butterfly or swaying tree leafs or swirling earth in the school ground or gray rocks laying somewhere in the soccer field from the sight of the window in your literature class, you will surely focus like how you're supposed to be.
---
You are wearing a pair of floral tank top and white denim shorts, matching it with a cream-colored flats and pink body bag. You pull your hair into a messy yet presentable enough bun. Pulling out a pink wristwatch from your accessory organizer, you face the wall mirror beside your bed and smile at your reflection.
Turning off the light and locking your bedroom door, you rush your way down the stairs as you pull your phone out from your bag to send a text message to Chanyeol about you coming over to their house. Just before you could punch in a text, you suddenly hear your mom calling from the kitchen area.
You quickly make your way to her, forgetting about the text thing for a whie. It could wait, you mentally say. Once you are already in the entrance of the kitchen, you see what you are expecting.
There your mom is, standing in the counter with a bowl of cake mixture in her hand. That's her hobby, her expertise.
You quickly walk towards her with a wide grin that you almost look like an idiot seeing a person for the first time. Your mom smile at you, but somehow it is different. You ignore it anyway, maybe your mind is just fooling you.
"Oh honey, where are you going? It's weekend, right?" She asks, adding eggyolks to her mixture as she mix it like a pro.
"Chanyeol." You reply plainly. You dip your index finger to the bowl just enough to touch the mixture's surface and put it to your mouth, tasting your mom's recipe. "Save me some, huh? Huh?"
She smiles and then shakes her head, now meeting your eyes. Since that, you notice the black circles and wrinkles around it which are odd because your mom never had them visible for a long time. "This is for someone else." She says as she lays her hand to yours. "That's also the reason why I called you. I want to talk to you about something."
You stare at her worriedly. Your mom talks to you like this only when she has a problem, major problems. With the look on her eyes and the down aura she has at the moment, you could tell that something is up and it surely is a big deal.
"What is it?"
"Honey," She sighs miserably. "You know how important our business is, right?"
You nod, still not getting the point of the conversation. "Yes, I know.. ever since dad started it."
"And you also know that you are going to be the heiress of it, right?"
You nod again. Your mom's eyes suddenly well up. You know it's stupid but.. you feel doubtful of her tears falling to the bowl of cake mixture she has in hand so you quickly get it from her and lay it against the counter's marble surface. "What's wrong?"
"I know this isn't still the right time for you to get in but.. I.. we already need you for the company."
You smile at this in relief, rubbing her back for comfort. You already know that you will and always will be the heiress of the company of course because you are the only child so you somehow had yourself ready for it. Your dad has been telling you this even before you are still a kid. Maybe your mom still doesn't know that ,so you are quiet sure that it is the reason of your mom's sudden outburst.
"Mom," You pull her into a hug. "I am ready for this. I have my mind set in getting in already. I promised that to dad."
She gently releases you, holding you by your shoulders. "I know, honey." She smiles sadly, hearing the agreement you had with your deceased dad. "But I need you more than that."
"W-what do you mean? I don't understand." You reply honestly. You stare at her watery eyes in confusion.
"You know Kim Incorporated, right?"
You nod. That's one of the most famous and well-progressed companies in Korea, just in the line of your's. Who wouldn't? Most of the malls and and amusement parks belong to them. Well, that's the only thing you knew about them though. Yes, you are already ready for the geting-in-the-company thing, but you aren't totally interested with the other companies except of course of Chanyeol's and yours, yet.
"Our company.." A tear rolls down her cheek. "Our company is in danger."
Your company? Is in danger? How the hell would that happen? This is the very first time your mom ever talked to you about it. She barely talks to you about the company's status, so you have in mind that everything is stable and at same time progressing. But now, it all seem a lie.
"Our stockholders are planning on pulling out. Some of them already did. If everyone would turn everything down, we'll be gone. Your dad's hardwork will be erased and forgoten." She cries again, gripping on your hand for support. "I'm sorry. I didn't try telling you this before. If only I told you about this earlier, I never would've make you decide in a rush."
