His laughter melted through the silence. Soft, warm notes melting like honey into the stillness. It felt like a secret. Something so precious that no one else had ever known. The sound, to Taehyung tasted sweeter than anything he had ever known. Laying here with this beautiful boy, as the night stretched out before them. Listening to the gentle gift of sweet giggles and warm sighs, as they shared secrets and music.Jungkook had always been quiet. He would step onto the bus with a book in his hands, and not put it down until his mother made him. He would not speak up in class or shout to get someones attention. He would quite happily walk the halls in silence. That is not to say, that Jungkook didn't have friends. In fact he had a tight circle of friends. Sure they weren't popular, or particularly cool. But they all loved each other and to Jungkook that was more than enough.Taehyung was different. Always so loud. Making people stare at the odd things he'd say or the strange things he'd do. He was known by pretty much everyone. They didn't necessarily like him, but they knew who he was. He liked to make people laugh and to make sure everyone was happy.Jungkook and Taehyung weren't best friends. Close friends, sure. But in the three or so years they had gone to school together so far, they were rarely alone together.Nevertheless, every morning Taehyung would try his hardest to make Jungkook laugh. Nearly always making him spill the small cup of hot chocolate he had in his hands as he giggled softly. In history class, Taehyung would always send him little notes, with silly comments or stupid drawings. Waiting with baited breath for a reply or a soft laugh. Or for a disapproving look from their teacher. On the days where he did get a reply it would feel like the heavens had opened up and blessed him. Jungkooks humor so in tune with his, so perfectly timed, so funny. It took up all of his attention. The first time they hung out outside of school brings us back to the beginning. With Taehyung meeting a whole new side of Jungkook. One he knows he will never be able to get enough of.This Jungkook is open and loud and speaks bold sentences. Sings along to songs he doesn't even know, just because he loves singing. And laughs. Oh how he laughs. And Taehyung has never felt more accomplished than when he coaxes that sweet sound from Jungkooks lips. They share everything from that moment. Text for hours everyday, even when they've seen each other just hours before. Jungkook is still quiet, but Taehyung learns how to read the silence. What each small gesture means. What each, whispered sarcastic comment says.Years pass, with this small friendship. Shared jokes and friend groups. Until exam season is over for another year and celebrations are in order.Taehyung holds the gathering at his house. His parents are away and they gave the okay for 'a few friends to come round' and Taehyung figures, 15 people is a few.Everyone arrives with booze and snacks, ready for a night of stupid games and eventually watching mama MIA, for reasons no one is ever really sure of.To Taehyung, there is only one person there. Wearing tight jeans and this ribbon thing around his neck, like a choker, and his hair styled just so, he feels like his heart has stopped. Jungkook looks breathtaking. And Taehyung doesn't know what to do with that information.Taehyung has never thought about his feelings for Jungkook. Even after their prom when they spent the entire night together. Even when Taehyung had brought a date, a date that wasn't Jungkook. Even when they hid outside taking sips from the hip flask Jungkooks mum had given him, because she was cool like that. Even when Jungkook had looked so beautiful in his tux that Taehyung literally could not think of anything else for the rest of the night. When Jungkook's hand slipped into taehyungs warm one, he swears it didn't even take a moment to adjust. The feeling of delicate fingers entwined with his just feeling so right. They spent the whole night sharing shy looks and warm touches. Neither one of them brave enough to think about what this might mean. Just enjoying the way their fingers curled together. The way they felt so in sync.In an ideal world they would have said things much sooner. They would have done more about the gentle touches and lingering looks. But Jungkook was leaving. Had gotten into an amazing college, so of course he had to go. Taehyung was too proud to think about anything else, until the leaving party came.Neither of them talked about how Taehyung was invited over 6 hours before everyone else. They didn't talk about the knowing looks Jungkooks mother gave them, or the way their hands were connected for the entire day. They didn't do anything special really. There were no meaningful words shared, no special gifts. They just talked and laughed and set up for the party. As the night fell, and the fire was lit. As everyone sat in a circle playing truth or dare or never have I ever, or something. Taehyung and Jungkook had drifted into their own little world. It wasn't like they were paying attention to anyone else anyway. They only has eyes for each other. Those two silly boys were wrapped up in each other. Taehyung running a soft hand through Jungkook's hair, being more bold than he ever thought possible. Probably thanks to the alcohol, but that was besides the point.Slowly. Slowly.Taehyung tilted Jungkooks chin level with his. Their eyes meeting softly. Both knowing that this was it."This is okay, isn't it?" Taehyung whispers. He needs to make sure they're on the same page.Jungkook smiles and says yes. Promises that this is okay and that of course he wont regret this come morning. Slanting their lips together in a warm brush.Over and over and over again.Taehyung swears he's never felt anything as good as Jungkook's lips. Never been happier, never felt fuller, never needed anything as much as he needed his touch. The night fell fast into deep, long kisses, filled with years of love and warmth. When they fell asleep that night curled up together, they knew the future would be hard. But so, so worth it.
