Chapter 29  “Good evening, DoJung speaking. How can I help you?” “Hey, Sir, it’s Kwon Jiyong. I thought I’d give you an update on the pureblood situation,” Jiyong mumbles, pulling up his collar. “Oh, Jiyong! Continue,” “I have tracked the vampire to Luhan’s house. She has definitely contacted the beast. DoJung…” Jiyong pauses, “Min is in there. She has been there all week,” “Has she? Oh, well be careful in case he uses her as bait…” DoJung clears his throat, “Anyway, have you got your team?” “A few haven’t shown up, but I have Kang Daesung and Lee Seungri. They are both good warriors. We are ready. We are waiting for your word before we enter the mansion,” Jiyong closes his eyes momentarily, imagining Min… locked away… or dead. “Go forward. I doubt Luhan underestimates you now. Be careful,” Jiyong hangs up. He indicates to Seungri and Daesung to move forward. He stands and makes his way to the front door, Seungri and Daesung a few metres behind him.  Jiyong’s plan is simple: he will knock on the door and hopefully have a conversation at the front door about Min with Luhan, allowing Daesung and Seungri to infiltrate the two side windows, which are always opened by the maids in the morning. After they have entered the building and notified Jiyong, Jiyong is to begin fighting Luhan. If the plan goes well, Jiyong will be able to destroy the pure blood and bring Min to safety.  KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK. Jiyong waits for a moment, his chest constricted. What if he walks in on them kissing? Or worse… Don’t think like that. Jiyong shakes his head as he watches Seungri slink around the side of the house out of the corner of his eye. The door opens slightly to reveal a maid. She blinks up at him, swallows, and opens the door further. “How can I help you?” She asks timidly. “I am here to see Luhan,” Jiyong states loudly and boldly, hoping Daesung and Seungri can hear him, “Is he home?” “Not at the moment,” The maid murmurs, “I can take a message if you’d like?” “Not at home?” Jiyong smirks, “But I saw him enter earlier,” The maid pales as if realising something very horrifying. “Then you would have noticed he has guests,” The maid mumbles, looking over her shoulder, “He told me to turn away all guests during this time,” “But, you see,” Jiyong leans forward, “He is waiting for me. I am running a little late,” The maid frowns in disbelief. “But…” “Just call him to the door, or I’ll find another way in,” Jiyong glowers at her, causing her to stammer and scamper. “I-I-I-I guess I can see if he’s a-a-available,” The maid turns and closes the door. Jiyong waits a moment, considering his options. So far, the plan has gone well, but he has underestimated his companions’ abilities, as he has already received their signal - a simple text from each of them. He quickly pulls out his phone and replies to them: DRAGON: almost Jiyong puts his phone into his pocket as he hears footsteps behind the door. He takes a deep breath as the door opens. There, standing in the doorway is Luhan. Jiyong has forgotten, in the heat of the moment, how much he hates him. It is his fault, all his fault. Jiyong glowers at him for a moment, before sending the automated message in his pocket to his friends: DRAGON: GO!  “Jiyong?” Luhan smirks, “How can I help you?” Jiyong continues to frown. “Where is she?” He asks, resisting the urge to push past him and find her himself. “Min?” Luhan grins, “Waiting for me in the bedroom. I have a meeting here, what do you want?” Jiyong clenches his fist, ignoring Luhan’s words. He’s lying. “I want to speak with her,” Jiyong steps forward, but Luhan pushes him away, hard. Jiyong stumbles before glaring up at him. “Did you not get the picture? If she wanted to speak to you, she would reply to your messages,” Luhan folds his arms calmly, sneering down at him. “I know you are keeping her captive with a dangerous vampire,” Jiyong growls, unable to help himself, “If you hurt a hair on her head… I’ll kill you myself,” “A dangerous vampire?” Luhan frowns slightly, “What are you talking about?” “The Choi heir? I know she’s alive and you’re keeping her from justice,” Jiyong snaps, stepping forward again. “The Choi heir?” Luhan frowns, before allowing his expression to go blank, “They sent you, didn’t they?” Luhan mumbles. “The VHA? Yes, they did,” Jiyong smirks, enjoying Luhan’s discomfort. “You are making a big mistake,” Luhan murmurs. Suddenly, an angry yell erupts from the nearest door. Luhan doesn’t turn around at the sound, but his expression hardens. “You brought friends?” Luhan asks. “Oh, hell yes I did,” Jiyong begins sauntering forward again, “And I will kill you. Then, as I step over your dead body I will murder the heiress, completing my parent's work,”  “Jiyong… you are in for a big surprise,” Luhan cackles as he launches himself into Jiyong, pushing him to the ground. They roll and stumble down the stairs to their feet, eyes blazing. Jiyong glares up at Luhan, pulling out his vampire gun. “No, you are the one in for a surprise,” Jiyong laughs maniacally, “I’m more powerful than you could ever imagine!” Jiyong stands straighter as his eyes flash dark yellow, blazing with power. Luhan stands and pulls dark crimson flames from his pocket. “So am I,” Luhan smirks as he launches the flames at Jiyong. Jiyong ducks and rolls away, into a standing position. He lifts his arms and aims for his heart. Bang, bang!  Luhan teleports to the front door, then behind Jiyong. The bullets smash the front of the house, causing debris to go everywhere. Jiyong spins around, shock written all over his face. “Yes, that’s right, Jiyong,” Luhan smirks as he saunters towards him, “I am not more powerful because I am a full vampire, but because I am a pureblood!” Luhan smacks Jiyong across the face. His neck snaps painfully, causing him to see stars. Jiyong glares up at him. “Do you know why I am more powerful, Jiyong?” Luhan smacks him again, pushing him into a crouched position. “Fuck you!” Jiyong screams, stumbling to his feet. “I have more than just my powers!” he laughs mirthlessly, “I have access to ancient magic, including,” Luhan conjures more crimson flames in his palm, “Power syphering,” Jiyong stumbles away, the realisation dawning on him, dread settling in the pit of his stomach. No!  I am not strong enough…I can’t fight the whole vampire academy at once! “Yes, Jiyong,” Luhan chuckles darkly, “That means… I let you win!” Luhan strolls closer, licking his lips as if he is playing with his food. “You know, I haven’t had real human blood for a very long time,” Luhan kicks Jiyong to the ground, pushing his chest with his heel, “But I’ve never tried mutant blood,” Jiyong winces as Luhan’s heel pushes Jiyong deeper into the ground.  Jiyong’s eyes widen as he suddenly remembers something Min once said to him. “Jiyong, you can do anything you put your mind to,” I can do this… I will do this! I’ll save Min! “You want to know what’s in my blood?” Jiyong chuckles. “Venom? A desire for revenge?” Luhan teases, pushing Jiyong further into the ground. Jiyong grasps his foot, slowly forcing it away. “Min… Min is in my blood,” Jiyong grins as Luhan’s smile falters. “What? Min gave you her blood?” “Yes, she did!” Jiyong grunts as he shoves Luhan’s leg away, causing him to stumble. Jiyong takes this moment to stand and pull his gun out again. Luhan glares at him, anger emitting from him like heat. “You have no idea what you have done!” Luhan screams as he rushes forward, his fangs elongated. Jiyong pulls the trigger as Luhan collides with him, sending them flying backwards. Jiyong feels a pain in his shoulder, blood rushing down his chest. Slowly, they fall through the air. Luhan falls on top of him with a grunt. So much blood.  Luhan pushes off of him and staggers to his feet, standing over him. He is clutching his shoulder. “Argh –” Luhan grunts as he stumbles backwards. Jiyong’s bullet hit its mark. Luhan will be unable to heal until the bullet is removed – or he dies. Jiyong sits up, feeling nauseous. He feels his arm and gasps, looking up at Luhan’s bloody face. He took a chunk from his arm. Luhan licks his lips and shivers. “Yes… that’s her blood,” Luhan snickers, glaring down at Jiyong, his bloody fangs protruding from his lips. “You evil… monster!” Jiyong screams as he tries to stand up. He staggers but gets to his feet.  “JIYONG!” Jiyong turns to see Min standing in the front doorway. Relief fills him like a drink. She’s here… she’s safe. “Jiyong, please, stop!” Min rushes to Luhan, her face pale and set. “Min…” Jiyong mumbles, watching her care for him, his own bleeding shoulder aching. But not more than his heart. “Jiyong, you don’t understand what is happening!” Tears are falling down her face. Luhan’s eyes slowly turn dark brown again, his fangs shrinking back again. Jiyong pockets his gun, clutching his shoulder as he watches her search for the bullet in the wound. “Min… please,” Jiyong mumbles, but Min ignores him again. “There it is,” Min frowns as she somehow pulls the bullet from deep in his wound. “Min!” Min jumps as Jiyong screams, his chest aching. Min stands and takes a few tentative steps towards him. Luhan reaches out behind her, trying to stop her. “Jiyong, I’m sorry,” Tears fall slowly down her cheeks.  “Jiyong!” Seungri and Daesung stumble out of the mansion, followed by Chanyeol and Xiumin, who look bloody and torn. They rush forward and support Jiyong, staring apprehensively at Min. Xiumin and Chanyeol rush over to help Luhan to his feet. “Let’s go, Jiyong…” Seungri whispers, pulling Jiyong’s good arm over his shoulder. Jiyong shakes his head, looking at Min. “Min… there is a dangerous vampire… he is helping her… she’ll destroy the world…” Jiyong mumbles, stumbling forward again. “No, Jiyong,” Min whispers, looking between Daesung and Seungri, who seem to be watching her wearily, almost fearfully. “Please, don’t trust him…” “Jiyong, listen to me,” Min steps forward, but Seungri pulls Jiyong away. Min bites her lip as more tears fall down her face. She lets out a sob. “Jiyong… it’s me,” “What?” Jiyong asks, completely bewildered. He tries to move forward again, but Daesung holds him back, supporting his arm. “I am the pure blood. I am the heiress of the Choi pureblooded family,” Min mutters, staring determinedly into Jiyong’s eyes. Jiyong’s eyes become blurry as he tries to take this in. No… no, she can’t be…She can’t be a vampire. She can’t be the one I’m meant to kill. All of a sudden, darkness engulfs him.
