The Fall (1/1)
Yoon Ah’s sick light hazel eyes, that have now turned slightly yellow, continued to gaze over the ideal prefecture that her hospital room overlooked. The longer she stands there and watch, the longer her blood seethes with envy as everyone that passed glowed with much joyous atmosphere. “They have no right to be happy!” Yoon Ah exclaimed, pounding the windowsill with her fragile fist. It’s not fair, she has worked her ass out day in and day out, but what does she have to show for it? A broken heart, stage four leukemia and abandonment. What has she ever done to deserve this? Has she offended anyone in her past that has cursed her to suffer so much? Why is the world punishing her with such intense cruelty? A sigh escaped her dry, chapped lips. This isn’t good; her thoughts are going astray and from what she had heard her shrink say, this could take a major toll on her already weakened body. It’s not like asking questions or grimacing at everyone is going to change the fact that she’s going to die pretty soon. She should at least try to live the last remaining time she has on earth as much as she could. And what better way to start living the last remaining days you have than trying to mend things with the people that you have done wrong to. Yes, that’s what she’s going to do, make amends with everyone and a person that was at the very top of the list was Choi Minho.Yoon Ah slowly trudged her feet across the cold marble floors towards the full length mirror that was gently propped up against the far end of the wall. Her once bright hazel eyes now have a tint of slight yellow on it and it was full of nothing more than hopelessness with eye bags looming under it. Her skin was still as pale as ever, making every little vain stand out more than it actually should. And of course, her lustrous, sleek jet black hair is still nowhere to be seen, instead a dark blue bandana was wrapped around her head. She had to admit, she couldn’t see what everyone else saw. To her, she looked exactly like she did when she first started getting chemo. But to others, she looked fragile; nothing but pale skin and weak bones, a mere dead man walking. It was undeniable that her strength had deteriorated over the past few months and of course all hope for survival has gone out the window but her will to live was still standing strong. .Yoon Ah remembered the first time she had received the news of having leukemia. She remembered how her boyfriend comforted her. He had been really supportive until that day; the day she had lost the plot.Minho’s eyes looked hurt, not just hurtbut hurt; as in extremely hurt beyond reason. The words Yoon Ah lashed out at him echoed through his head; ‘You! You’re the reason why I turned out like this! I wish I never met you. You were the person that had caused me all this pain and suffering!’ She didn’t mean it. She couldn’t possibly mean it. Please, rewind time and let her take back what she had just said or at least apologize. Any form of apology would be forgiven in a blink of an eye. Please. Unfortunately Yoon Ah didn’t look like she was going to apologize anytime soon. Tears were freely cascading down her face as she clutched her stomach tightly. She had just finished her chemotherapy and the pain that she had gone through was immense that she can’t bear to keep it to herself anymore. “You always say everything is going to be okay. You’re always saying that if I go through chemo I would be better. But that’s a lie! You have been feeding me lies. If I just left it alone and not have gone through this whole process in the first place, then maybe I won’t be in so much pain.” Yoon Ah chided with a venomous tone. “Yoon Ah, chemo will get you through this. Just a little bit more and everything would go back the way it should be,” Minho replied, trying to gather his thoughts back together. Yoon Ah laughed bitterly, “No! You don’t understand. You’re not the one that has to vomit every single time you have finished eating. The hair in your head is still intact. You don’t have to wake up in the middle of the night because of the excruciating pain that just appears out of nowhere. The most pain you probably go through is getting a paper cut. You don’t cry your eyes and heart out every single day because everything you do just hurts like hell. You don’t know what it feels like to be in this much pain every single day.” This was a lie; Minho did cry his heart and eyes out every single day as he helplessly watches the love of his life suffer. He does wake up in the middle of the night because he just couldn’t sleep knowing that the pain she could be going through is too much for her. And he goes through the most pain anyone could ever imagine; seeing someone you love suffer so much pain and not be able to do anything about it.He wanted to tell her all that, but he knew that it would just make her even more furious. No, he doesn’t want to add wood to the fire. He knew exactly what she wanted him to do but it felt like he had to ask, just to make sure. “What do you want me to do?” Minho finally asked feebly. The emotional girl paused the sobs that was continuously coming and looked right at Minho, “I want you to leave. Leave and never come back. Go and ruin someone else’s life. Cause everyone and anyone else pain. I don’t care what you do. Just don’t ever come back here. Ever.” Each word was like daggers to Minho, but he took it anyway. Maybe it was his fault that she was in pain. If he didn’t encourage her to go through chemo then maybe she would’ve felt less pain and suffered a shorter time. He slowly gathered his things into the canvas bag he had brought with him and headed towards the room. “Choi Minho. I hate you,” Yoon Ah clearly stated. She watched him go with a broken heart. She inflicted pain and let him go. “I’m sorry,” she muttered to no one in particular. She could feel her heart cringing at the sheer memory of that day. That’s when she knew she really did need to mend things with Minho, before it’s too late.Yoon Ah fumbled around the bronze Louis Vuitton bag of her Mother that was carelessly left at the foot of the bed and fished around for her iphone. Within a few minutes, Yoon Ah was holding the phone in her skeletal hands with a slight smile. With trembling hands, she quickly dialed Minho’s cell phone number which she had been able to remember by heart. She could feel her heart racing as if it was on a high speed chase and cold beads of sweat form under her eyebrows as she pressed the phone towards her ears. Each ring made her feel clammy and hot, as fears began to form at the back of her head. It was about the last ring, when Yoon Ah felt like giving up and just ending this foolishness. Of course Minho wouldn’t want to talk to her after she had said all those things to him. Her conceitedness was kicking in again, how could she think that Minho would still have feelings for her?“Hello?” a deep masculine voice asked, snapping Yoon Ah from her deep thoughts.“M-minho?” she replied nervously. There was a silence at the other end of the line and Yoon Ah could practically feel Minho rolling his eyes –she just hoped he wasn’t actually doing so. “Um, what’s up?” he finally replied with much uncertainty. This time she was the one that was silent, she wanted to apologize. She wanted to say sorry, ask him to come over and work everything out but that wasn’t what came out of her mouth next. “What’s up? Oh gee, maybe the fact that I am dying soon and that I have not much time left in this universe and you say ‘what’s up?’”“Look, I’m not in the mood to argue–” Minho didn’t get to finish his sentence, not before he could hear the beeping tone, signaling Yoon Ah already hang up.“I can’t do it. I can’t bring myself to apologize.” Out of frustration, Yoon Ah threw the phone into her hospital bed and grabbed the nearest item she could get her hands on. As it happens, her Mother’s unzipped bag was what her hands had reached out onto. For the second time that day, Yoon Ah sighed, she had the intention of throwing whatever she could get her hands on but she couldn’t possibly throw her Mother’s belongings. She carefully laid the bag back down to where it was before, but something caught her delicate eyes. Something shiny, something she had missed before as she ransacked it to find the phone that had proved meaningless. Slowly, Yoon Ah’s emaciated hand fished out the shiny object, but it wasn’t just any shiny object. It was the diamond bracelet Minho had given her for her birthday when they were in college, back when they were still studying for their degree.“Minho oppa! Guess what today is?” Yoon Ah asked with ecstasy. “Hmm… Wednesday?” he replied blatantly. The girl in front of him scoffed, “Are you serious? So this day absolutely mean nothing?” Minho chuckled slightly, “Yeah. It means nothing–”“Fine be that way,” Yoon Ah raised her chin in the air and was about to walk away from Minho but stopped in her tracks. “You didn’t let me finish. It means nothing to everyone else but to you and me, it means a whole lot more,” he slowly took out a square box from his pocket and watched as Yoon Ah smiled her hundred watt smile. “Happy birthday!” “So what’s in the box?” Yoon Ah asked with an arched eyebrow. “Well you can’t know until you sight one of my magic tricks,” he replied playfully. Minho didn’t have to wait for his girlfriend’s reply to know that she was up for it. He took out a coin from who-knows-where and held it up in the air for both of them to see. “Okay, first you have to blow on the coin.”“Blow on the coin?” Yoon Ah repeated as she edged closer, getting ready to blow on the coin. As Yoon Ah did what she was told to do, Minho quickly drew back the round object and caught Yoon Ah’s pursed lips onto his soft natural cherry lips. “Yah! Magicians aren’t allowed to do that,” Yoon Ah said acting as if she had just been violated. “Whoever said I was a magician?” Minho replied cheekily. The girl in front of him chuckled, “You don’t know any magic tricks do you?” Minho pretended to look horrified, “Well what do you call this?” He showed his empty hands in the air and did the classic grab-a-coin-from-behind-your-ear trick. But this time, instead of a coin, there on his hands was the square box he had held earlier. Yoon Ah carefully took the box and slowly opened it. There, the diamond bracelet shone like the morning star. One minute, the bracelet was dangling in front of Yoon Ah’s eyes, held by her dominant hand and the next, it had seem to magically place itself on the dirty, cold floor. But the thing was, it wasn’t magic that had brought the bracelet on the floor; it was because its owner was too busy. Both her hands were clutching her stomach in pain. Her heart was beating like a drum while tears started to blur her vision. She could feel her throat starting to itch and within a second, she began coughing uncontrollably. At first they were dry loud couhgs but soon, she could feel blood rising up to her throat and escaping her lips, adding colour to the colourless floor. While one hand remained clutching her stomach, the other was desperately trying to cover her mouth in a vain attempt to stop the blood from purging out.The pain in her stomach grew, almost overtaking all the senses in her body but that didn’t stop the blood from cascading its way towards the floor. She wanted this to stop. The pain is too much! It’s not worth it to live day by day in so much pain.Yoon Ah’s eyes briefly looked up towards the full length mirror in front, but all she saw was nothing more than blurry images that soon turned into black. She could feel herself losing balance, she couldn’t feel the pain anymore, nor could she cough out anymore blood. This is it; she’s finally going to meet her long awaited fate. She could feel the air rush towards her as she fell sideways and into the floor right next to where the bracelet laid peacefully. Her body landed with a thump and raised a few centimeters of the ground before falling right back again. Her eyes began to feel heavy but there was only one person in her mind, Choi Minho. The one and only person she wished she could’ve at least apologized to. Now it was too late; she’s lying in her own ruby red pool with saturated clothes and the mere memories of her past…___________________________________________________________________________________Author's Note: It didn't really turn into a love story sort if thing after all. Fail! Well I tried to but the story just wasn't meant to be one. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed my first ever oneshot that I have actually completed. The story line (minus the love part) was meant to be submitted to the puffin short story competition so I wasn't really intending to make it into a love story so know the result of my failed writing is evident. I at least hope I didn't waste your time reading it. The next chapters are all reviews >< Unless you want to read the reviews, click next, you wanna change into some other fanfics, click back. Have a great day^^
