CHAPTER SIX Kai and Kyungsoo were woken up with the sound of knocking to their door. “Kai, Kyung, dinner’s ready! Go downstairs okay?” Suho shouted through the wooden piece of material blocking them from the outside. “I don’t want to go downstairs Khyung. I just want to stay like this.” Kai said as he embraced tighter on the older, he could feel the vibrations coming from the singer as he did that. “Why are you laughing?” Kai pulled out his hand away from Kyungsoo and sit upright on the bed—arms crossed and bottom lip pouting. He was offended. But seeing this side of Kai made Kyungsoo laugh even more that he has to clutch his stomach because of Jongin almost being so comical. Childish Jongin is childish. “Nothing, Jongjong! C’mon now lazy man, we have to eat.” Kyungsoo stood beside the bed and held a hand for Jongin to take. But the latter’s still depressed on the news he got earlier. “I—I don’t want to. Khyung, I don’t want to meet—“ But Kyungsoo silenced the boy by putting his held hand on his mouth. He smiled gently on Jongin as he removed his hands. Jongin hold into it for a while as Kyungsoo hugged the dancer—Jongin’s head resting on Kyungsoo’s stomach. “Let’s just forget about that okay? For now, we have to live as Jongin and Kyungsoo! Let’s just face them when they’re a stone throw away from us, but this time, we must eat. You hear? My stomach’s demanding for food! Now get your ass up kid, and let’s meet them downstairs.” Jongin chuckled on the failed attempt of Kyungsoo to be angsty and demanding but cute at the same time, but followed suit afterwards. They went down arm in arm and the people eating on the dining table literally had everything they’re doing stopped, even Sehun on his way to sip his bubble tea drink and Minseok on his first bite of his steamed bun. “Ahm, guys, what’s wrong?” Kyungsoo hesitantly asked and eyed Baekhyun who continued to eat and Chanyeol who did the same albeit the stares they’re getting from the others. The two slowly slipped on their seats as they’re still aware of the eyes watching them. “Okay, guys, what is it?” Impatient Kai is out of temper. “D—Duizhang?” Kris quizzically looked at Tao, but the younger only knowingly looked at him. Kris sighed after a while and put his spoon and fork down as he drink a calming amount of water. “Kai, Kyungsoo, answer me honestly. Are you two going out?” Tao hid his face with his hands as he waits for the answer. Luhan tightly grips on Sehun’s shirt while Lay’s secretly knotting his fingers under the table—same as Suho; Minseok momentarily forgot about eating his bun as he holds his breath in anticipation. Jongdae put his phone down for a moment and studied the scene before them. And well, Baekhyun and Chanyeol are eating. They’re eating absolutely uninterested with the shared tension everyone’s widely offering them. Eight people are anticipating, so bad. ---- “Guys, you wouldn’t believe what we saw!” Tao announced excitedly when Kris and him returned to where the others are. “Tao.” Kris tried to warn Tao on not to spill it, but Luhan’s already curious about it. “What is it Taotao?” His cousin asked him and he smiled mischievously on the group of people waiting for his answer. He’s just so excited to tell it to them, but he chose to prolong the anticipation first. He’ll let the coal burn without letting it fire. Kris slumped on the reclining couch as he sensed what Tao’s doing. “Oh c’mon Tao, tell us about it!” Suho said, seconded by everyone. Tao’s feline lips curved into an upward smile as he sipped on his drink. “Well, you see, we—I mean, Duizhang and I decided to call the missing two earlier right?” “Just go to the point Tao! Cut the chase darn it!” Minseok impatiently remarked but playful Tao learned that anticipation’s an important ingredient on the meal he’s cooking. “Minseok-ge, where’s the fun in that? Anyways, I’ll continue.” Minseok resigned defeated on his seat as Tao preferred to finally spill it. “Okay, Duizhang and I wasted ten minutes of our time knocking and shouting against their door but there’s no response. I then put my ear on the wood and heard something like small voices. I told them to Duizhang but he just ignored me. So what I did was, I asked him to open their door through the spare keys he have and we knew that it’s only a Pororo show left on that I was hearing.” Tao contentedly said as he’s waiting for everyone’s reaction, especially Sehun’s. The eager maknae, Oh Sehun. “I never knew Kai watches Pororo. It’s so… like a kid’s show.” Lay said. “Maybe Kyungsoo did.” Suho added. Then they heard something like a thunder roaring inside the room. “Actually, both Kai and Kyungsoo love that show. It’s their favorite.” Yes, it’s Chanyeol giggling like a maniac that is metaphorically compared to a roaring thunder. And after that, awkward ‘Oh!’s followed. But Sehun’s still feeling unimpressed with what Tao had said. There’s still something unsaid, he thought. “Tao hyung, c’mon. That’s not really what you want us to know, is it?” And Tao expectedly clapped his hands. “Honestly, Sehun’s right. That’s not yet what I’m about to tell you guys.” “Then what is it?” Tao looked at Kris, trying to get a glimpse of affirmation, but the latter resigned on his seat. “I saw Kai and Kyungsoo-ge cuddling on their sleep. Together. In one bed.” Tao said and everyone’s mouth formed into an ‘O’ as they let the information sink into them. But it seems like Baekyeol’s not that interested. Chanyeol chuckled on the thought of it—them, rather- as Baekhyun rolled his eyes and said, “Not again.” “Oh my! Aw, they must be so cute!” Luhan squealed almost Tao-like as the image of Kai and Kyungsoo cuddling each other on sleep appeared on the bubble above his head. “I don’t know, they’re---they’re like, that… close. Quite, literally.” Minseok quipped. “Wait, guys, are they like together now? Like, together as in going out?” And thanks to Suho, everyone’s minds brainstormed as they shrunk with assumptions, hypothesizes, and guesses. Not until Kris said to know it straight from the two. Real smart he is. ---- “Ahm… No, we’re not.” Kyungsoo stated and looked at Jongin as he smiled feebly on the older. Everyone’s breaths are now exhaled without them noticing that they’ve been holding it, and a mass of disappointments were heard. “Aw, I thought you two are. That would be so cute.” Luhan pouted in mortification while Sehun, Tao and Kris sighed heavily. They thought so too. Minseok and Jongdae smiled as Minseok weighs his feelings for the two and Jongdae resumed texting. Suho patted Lay’s back who really was anticipating for the affirmation and pledged, together with Tao and Luhan to ship and support them if they really are together. But no, they aren’t. It took a couple of minutes for everyone to continue on what they’re doing. Kyungsoo eyed knowingly at Kai and the dancer assured him with a nod and a faint smile. Kyungsoo coughed awkwardly, making him the receiver of everyone’s attention. “Actually guys, I—rather, Jongin here has an announcement, but I’ll do it anyway. He’s getting—“ “Wait! Ah! I remember, here, Kyungsoo.” Kris interrupted Kyungsoo and handed him a letter. Kyungsoo quizzically examined the letter. “I believe it was from your mom. She called me earlier and asked for this place, and soon after, an express mail was sent. And that’s what it was.” Kris filled the questions on Kyungsoo’s mind. Kyungsoo opened it, and together with Jongin on his side, they silently read it. Kyungsoo folded it neatly as he smiled, but tears threaten to fall from the side of his eyes. Jongin, beside him slowly sat straight, looking both star struck and bewildered. The singer gathered all the courage he has, and still has left, but failed miserably to stop a tear roll on his cheek. “K—Kyungsoo?” Baekhyun worriedly asked, but Kyungsoo only smiled at him. “I—I’m… getting—I’m getting, married.” He said, as normal as he could, but it only sounded like a strained sob. Not soon after, Jongin announced his. “And… me, too.” Jongin then pulled Kyungsoo and dragged him out of the scene, leaving everyone shocked, flabbergasted, and stunned like statues with the sudden, neither-good-nor-bad news they heard. ---- “Honey, I’m still doubting our decision.” A chubby-cheeked, legs-to-kill, corn-loving woman on her early forties said as she scooted closer to her husband. “Don’t worry, honey, I assure you, everything will be fine. Just trust our son okay?” The man, whose gaze really would either leave you shaking in fear or make your mouth water with so much sex appeal, the husband, assured his wife as he kissed her red, coconut-scented locks before caressing it with his deft fingers and gently brushing his pendant—a hand holding a megaphone. ---- “Love, are you really sure of what we did to him?” A man wearing black wife beater—that perfectly showcases his sculpted body said with a plastered thoughtful demeanor radiating to his eyes as he delivered the slightly accented Korean due to his nationality as Thai. “You know, Love, I never knew our son would be this slow. We’re just helping him, don’t worry.” She answered looking at his man through the vanity mirror in their room. She graciously turned around to face the love of her life as the light-hued bedroom lamp caught a glimpse of her beautifully tanned skin, curved on right places—especially on the trident abs evident on her stomach through strenuous dance classes- and a look that would definitely make you drool. She was about to come to her waiting husband when her phone rings. “Hello?” She asked. “Are you really, one hundred percent sure this would work?” The caller asked in return. “Well, hello to me too. Anyways, yes, I’m sure about it; just fifty-fifty. But don’t worry about them too much okay? They’re big kids now and they’re just being slow as they are and what we’re doing is actually a favor for them. Just a push we’re freely giving them.” She assured. “You know, I reviewed the signs, and they’re so positively correct. But I’m afraid we’re giving them something they’ll regret later on.” The caller quipped hesitantly, almost faintly. “As I told you, don’t worry about it. We got everything in hand. Now, what I want you to do is trust our solution to the problem, and most especially, trust your son as I trust mine. Okay?” Finally, a sigh was heard on the other line. “Okay, thanks, Yuri. Good night. Say hi to Nichkhun for me okay?” “Will do. Good night Bom, and to TOP too. Bye!”
