*makes the sound of a dying walrus* Taemin carefully sat down his plate at a table further away from everyone else. It wasn’t by choice, he just couldn’t sit with them. Even now as he sat down and poked the potatoes on his plate he could feel their eyes on him. He was woken from his gloomy thoughts by another plate being placed across from him loudly making him, and everyone else in the room, flinch. Taemin dared a glance up and was met with a doll like face and an angelic smile… How could these kind of people actually exist. The other boy sat down in front of him and happily started munching on his meat as Taemin stared. ”Hello,” the boy simply said with a bright smile. Taemin turned his gaze down to his food again and bit his lip at the funny feeling in his stomach. Someone was actually trying to be friendly to him. Taemin forced out a quiet ”hi.” Before going back to eating. Everyone was looking at them, and they were probably just as shocked as him that one of them would actually try to interact with him, he let his thoughts wander for a moment before he shyly dared a glance up only to see the other boy raising an expectant eyebrow at him. Oh shit, Taemin looked around in panic, he had just missed something and he wasn’t sure what it was. He bit his lip for what felt like the seventh time just that night and the other boy laughed at him. ”Don’t worry, I was just saying random things in hope of getting your attention,” He laughed and Taemin felt himself relax again. ”I’m Luhan.” The boy ended with a nice smile. ”O-oh! I’m-” ”Lee Taemin, I know.” Luhan interrupted, ”actually we all know that.” Taemin nodded slowly, yes of course they did. They wouldn’t have welcomed him into their house if they didn’t even know who he was. Although he couldn’t really call the cold stares welcoming. ”Don’t worry about everyone else, they’ll warm up to you in no time,” Luhan quickly said. Taemin lowered his gaze again to his food and gnawed on his already brutalized lip, ”Luhan… Why actually are everyone acting like this towards me..?” He asked carefully, not knowing if it was actually appropriate for him to ask. ”I haven’t done anything wrong right? I mean, I just came here yesterday, I couldn’t have screwed up already… Right?” Luhan gave him a sad little smile, ”No, it’s pretty unfair to be honest,” he sighed, ”I guess we’re all just pretty shocked.” ”Shocked..?” ”Yes that’s right, you see, we were all pretty sure that Kai’s mate was Kyungsoo. Heck, even those two were pretty sure of it and they were about to.. uh.. tie the knot, when Kai sensed you. Kyungsoo felt betrayed and played as Kai turned him down at the choosing and then went to find you. We didn’t see much of him for a couple of months and that’s pretty normal in most packs but knowing that he was out trying to woo his mate just made things so much more worse.” Luhan paused for a second to glance around, everyone was listening in, as he had expected. ”And then Kai finally brought you home, and everyone felt pretty much tricked, even I. But that doesn’t give us the right to act like some elementary school children. You’re going to be our alpha’s mate soon and we can’t act like this. No matter what we personally feel.” Taemin felt that the last part wasn’t directed at him and couldn’t help but smile at the other boy.Luhan instantly stopped in his story telling and stared at him. Taemin, being his usually self conscious self quickly dropped the smile and Luhan sputtered for a moment. ”No, wait!” And then he laughed at the shocked Taemin, ”No, uh.. You just got a really pretty smile, you know…” Making Taemin flush a nice shade of red. Luhan glanced to his side and smiled teasingly at what he saw. Taemin followed the direction he was looking and saw a blonde guy, who also looked younger than himself, twitching in his seat while daring a glance towards Luhan now and then. Luhan laughed at that and raised his arm to wave the other boy over. The blonde jumped up from his seat and rushed over before slamming his plate down at the table next to Luhan making Taemin jerk away in shock. ”What’s this?” Luhan said teasingly with a shit eating face, ”Sehun if you wanted to sit with me you should have just come over from the beginning~” The blonde- Sehun, glared at his teasing, ”Shut up, I was just a bit hesitant, that’s all.” Luhan glared at him this time, ”And why’s that?” He asked with a knowing and disappointed look. Sehun looked down at this lap in embarrassment, ”Well…” he started with a quick glance towards Taemin, and it felt like he had just been punched in the stomach, oh. They were even avoiding each other because of him? ”Yah! Look what you did Sehun!” Luhan hissed in annoyance and quickly turned towards Taemin, ”Don’t take it to the heart Taeminnie, these guys are jerks.” He said quickly and patted his hand that was resting at the table top. Taemin wasn’t really sure how he looked right now but he felt like shit, and guilty. Incredibly guilty. Even Sehun looked as if he regretted those words. ”H-hey, I didn’t mean it like that…” He tried before he sighed, ”Look, Taemin.” He said and Taemin glanced up at the other boy. ”We’re going to be family soon, aren’t we? You love Kai, don’t you?” He asked with a smile so bright that Taemin couldn’t help but smile back softly. He blushed and nodded slowly, ”Yes, more than anything in this world.” Sehun’s smile got impossibly brighter and he reached over to mess with Taemin’s hair, making him laugh from shock. ”Everyone will get over themselves soon enough, you’re one of us now after all! And if Kai felt that he would be happier with you than Kyungsoo, well then I guess that’s it. We shouldn’t be acting like this towards you because of that.” He ended with a nod and Luhan took a hold of Sehun’s hand with his own and linked their fingers together with a proud look in his eyes. He buried his face in Sehun’s neck and mumbled softly, ”you did well.”
Kai walked through the dark corridors of the house with tired steps, it had been a long day and all he wanted now was to get to bed and wrap himself around Taemin. However, from what he could tell by their scents Taemin wasn’t in their room at all. He frowned at that until he heard the laughter coming from upstairs. He sighed and made his way towards the stairs before he froze as he caught sight of Kyungsoo leaning against the wall next to them. He pushed himself off it and made his way towards Kai full of purpose. ”Look, I know things didn’t really turn out as we thought they would,” He started reluctantly, ”And I won’t pretend that it’s okay or that I’ve ’forgiven’ you.” Kai nodded at that, he didn’t deserve forgiveness yet. ”But,” Kyungsoo said with a low growl, ”do the same thing to Taemin, break his heart like you did mine, and i’ll be sure to be there to snap your neck, okay?” He ended with a innocent smile before turning around and leaving Kai frozen in place. He slowly shook his head and smiled at that, if Kyungsoo was threatening him again they were getting better. And the fact that he was already protective over Taemin even thought he was the wolf who had taken his place as the alpha’s mate in the first place, was just showing that he knew that it had been the right thing to do to end their thing. Kyungsoo had a big heart, and although he nagged them and threatened them a lot, Kai was more than sure that he would find happiness in the end. He followed kyungsoo upstairs to the living room to find the pack snuggling in a… well, in a puppy pile. He smiled at the sight and searched for Taemin in the pile only to find him snuggled between Luhan.. or Sehun? Those two were practically laying on top of each other. Anyway, between those two and Chen, who was laying on the front and hugging the boy protectively. Kai walked forward as quietly as he could, he knew that they all had already sensed him before he had even entered the house but he didn’t want to disturb them more than necessary. He inched towards the pair and Chen turned to give him a sleepy look before sighing and rolling over to snuggle into the person at his other side who turned out to be Xiumin who whined in annoyance but was too lazy to do anything about it. Kai chuckled at them before crawling over to Taemin who smiled at him shyly and whispered a quick ”hello.” Kai smiled down at him and answered back in a whisper. They smiled at each other like two teens experiencing their first crush and Kai wrapped his arms around Taemin who buried his face in his chest, ”Today was a good day.” he hummed as Kai ran his fingers through the other ones hair before leaving a quick kiss at his forehead, ”Yeah it was.” He mumbled and they both fell asleep.
