Worried Sick (1/1)
To say Jaebum felt awful was an understatement. Everything seemed hazy and he could feel a headache slowly beginning to form behind his eyes. Well, isn’t this a great way to wake up, he thought bitterly. Dazedly rubbing the side of his face, he shuffled towards the living room, where he was greeted by a smiling Jinyoung. He was holding a novel, and knowing him, he was probably just rereading one he had already read for the nth time."Good morning, sleepyhead. Or should I say good afternoon?" Jinyoung greeted cheerfully from the couch. The older man could only grunt in response, slumping down on the beside him and closing his eyes in hopes that it would lessen the pain in his head. While he'd usually be glad to talk to his boyfriend at any time of day, he wasn't feeling up for any sort of conversation at the moment. This did not go unnoticed by Jinyoung. "You okay? You're not sick, are you?" he asked worriedly. Jaebum shook his head but stopped quickly, as the movement made his head hurt more."I'm fine," he muttered. "Just not feeling one hundred percent right now. I'll be better once I'm more awake." Jinyoung looked skeptical, but didn't question him any further. Jaebum was glad. He didn't feel like talking. "Take it easy, alright?" Jinyoung said softly, coming over to kiss Jaebum on the forehead. Jaebum hummed quietly in reply."I'm going to get you something to eat and some Tylenol." Jaebum didn't respond and watched his boyfriend leave the room in silence. He closed his eyes once more and felt his pounding in his head lessen to a dull ache as he slipped into darkness. When Jaebum opened his eyes he was confused. He was no longer in his apartment. Looking down, he was surprised to see black sand at his feet. He looked around and saw nothing but sand all the way to the horizon behind him, and an eerie, dark ocean in front of him. The sky was covered in clouds, threatening rain. Growing increasingly anxious, he started pacing along the shore. There was nobody in sight."Jaebum?" called a voice. Jaebum whipped around frantically, trying to find the source of the voice. It sounded like Jinyoung. He looked out towards the ocean and saw Jinyoung standing far out in the water. Jaebum tried to call his name, but his voice wouldn't work. Why couldn’t he speak? Beginning to panic, he stepped out towards the sea, desperate to get to Jinyoung. A twisted feeling began to form in his chest as his anxiety worsened, and he began to walk faster. He shuddered violently as rain began to pour down heavily. The water was freezing, but he kept moving. He had to get to Jinyoung.Just as he was nearing him, the shallow water seemed to end and he felt himself fall into the depths of the sea, despite the fact that Jinyoung was standing in the water perfectly fine just ahead of him. Jaebum was overwhelmed with fear as he struggled to get back up. He was drowning, but he couldn't move. He couldn't yell. All he could do was drown in silence, submerged in the icy water as Jinyoung called his name from the surface.Jaebum... Jaebum! "Jaebum!"Jaebum felt someone shaking his shoulder and jolted upwards, disoriented. He realized he was in his apartment, and he felt shockingly hot in contrast to the freezing cold he had just experienced. Feeling his breathing hitch involuntarily, he realized that there were tears running down his face. Had he been crying? Oh... He still was.Comforting arms wrapped around him, and he sunk into the embrace, shaking with fear. "Shh, baby, it's okay, it was just a nightmare. I'm here. It's okay," Jinyoung cooed. "You're burning up... You're definitely sick. You should have told me you felt sick earlier.""It was just a headache earlier," Jaebum mumbled. "Thought I was just tired.""Jaebum, you slept in until like two. Plus, you fell asleep again after being up for only a few minutes," Jinyoung said with a frown. Guilt instantly took over as Jaebum became aware of how much he must have worried his boyfriend. "Sorry," he whispered, suddenly unable to look Jinyoung in the eye."Wh- no, Jaebum, baby, oh my gosh. Don't apologize, you didn't do anything wrong. C'mon, look at me. It's okay." Jinyoung cupped Jaebum's face in his hands. "I'm going to get you some medicine. Try not to fall asleep, 'kay?" Jaebum nodded, fighting off drowsiness.Moments later, Jinyoung brought in a glass of water, a bowl of soup, and some pills for Jaebum to take. Jaebum took the medicine and began to eat slowly. He only ate about half of the soup and wouldn’t eat any more despite Jinyoung’s attempts to persuade him. He just didn’t have the appetite. Jinyoung took it back to the kitchen to throw away, albeit hesitantly. Two sat on the couch for a while, Jaebum watching television listlessly while Jinyoung read his book. After about an hour, Jaebum's fever started to worsen. He felt like his insides were being twisted around. Groaning, he curled up into himself. "You okay? What's wrong?" Jinyoung asked. Jaebum didn't answer. A sudden wave of nausea hit him and he gagged. Jinyoung got up and quickly left the room, then came back with a trashcan, which he put down in front of Jaebum. "Here, sit up," he urged, guiding his boyfriend. He rubbed circles on Jaebum's back as he dry-heaved into the trashcan. Once the retching stopped, he slumped over, falling against Jinyoung as dead weight. He looked up at Jinyoung with hooded eyes, hardly able to focus on his boyfriend's face. Jinyoung pressed his hand against his forehead and his eyes fluttered shut as he reveled in the feeling of his cold palm, no longer able to process whatever Jinyoung was saying. He couldn't hold back a snivel of protest as he felt Jinyoung's hand move away. Eyes still closed, he felt himself being moved into a lying position on the couch and he slowly fell asleep to the faraway sound of Jinyoung's voice. Jaebum awoke some time later, and assumed that he must have slept a while, considering the fact that all of the lights were off save for a lamp in the corner that dimly lit the room. He tilted his head to the side and spotted Jinyoung, who was sitting on the floor with his back against the couch, fast asleep. A damp cloth fell off of Jaebum’s forehead when he moved, and he realized that his headache was gone and he felt much less feverish. He also noticed that Jinyoung had put a blanket over him. He moved to sit beside his boyfriend. So cute, he thought lovingly as he watched him. Lips slightly parted, Jinyoung remained asleep, unaware of Jaebum's admiration. Jaebum pushed Jinyoung’s bangs away from his face, and chuckled softly when the younger’s eyebrows furrowed. Deciding to put Jinyoung in bed, he gently lifted him bridal-style. Jinyoung instinctively wrapped his arms around Jaebum’s neck and shifted to rest his head on his shoulder as he made his way upstairs.Upon being placed in bed, Jinyoung opened his eyes in confusion. “Jaebum… are you feeling okay?” he asked softly, tiredness evident in his voice. “Yeah, I’m feeling a lot better, actually. All thanks to you.” Jaebum joined Jinyoung in the bed and pulled the latter against his chest.“Hey, you’re gonna get me sick,” Jinyoung complained.“It’s okay, I feel better now.”“That doesn’t mean you aren’t sick anymore!”“Shut up and go to sleep.”"Jaebum, you're so mean."“Love you."“…Love you too. Jerk.” Author's note: As I stated in the description, this is my first fanfic, so thanks for reading! Any critiques would be greatly appreciated. If people end up liking this fanfic, I may write a version in Jinyoung's POV. Let me know if you like that idea! :)
