Chapter 17~Kim Hyuna (1/2)
You sit in the room by yourself. Your eyes are out of tears and now you sit in the silence. Sulking. Your breath is coming in hiccups. You sniff constantly and stare off into space. Why do you miss him so much? Why did he do this to you? What would he have said to you if you had let him speak? Should you have let him speak?Suddenly you become extremely curious about how he could have explained himself. What was the point in all this? That morning he had said that he meant the words he spoke that night. That he liked you. And you had meant them as well. You still mean them. You just feel confused. Hurt. Sad. Abandoned… but it was you who sent him away. Sent him away without an explanation. How can you possibly feel guilty for this?! You run your hands through your hair and try to get a grip on the situation.
“What’s going on?” you look up to see Miryo looking down at you.“Nothing.” you sigh.“Something’s wrong.” She says as she sits on the edge of the bed and looks down at you. “You can tell me.”“I don’t know what’s wrong.” Your voice cracks.“You like him?” she says softer. How did she guess it so fast? You look up at her in bewilderment. She smiles.“You think I couldn’t tell?” she says animatedly. “I could tell. The way you looked at him. How easy you two talked to each other. The way you guys walked with each other at school. He liked you too, you know. The way he stared at you. He always looked like he was thinking about something really hard. The way he dropped everything and left me to go after you. That’s when I decided to let you have him. He likes you, not me.”You smile, seeing that she’s half joking but half completely serious. She was always quick to develop a crush on boys. She smiles back and rolls her eyes.
“So, what are you going to do about it?” she asks.“What can I do? I sent him away. I don’t know where he is now. And he did terrible things, Miryo.”
“Yeah, he did. But… why? I’ve been thinking about it real hard and I just can’t think of any reason why he would come to work here if he meant something bad. And he really wouldn’t have left so easily after all that trouble either. Maybe his friends put him up to the idea to break in. You don’t know. I don’t know. But he seemed pretty sad about it. Sincere. Maybe he regrets it.”
“I don’t know.”
“Exactly. You don’t know. He didn’t say anything.”
“I didn’t let him say anything.” You say quietly. Miryo smiles with your realization. Then the full guilt hits you. He did one thing wrong. ONE thing. You sigh with shame. “I didn’t let him explain anything. He tried to tell me. He begged to tell me. I said nasty things to him. I was a bad person.”
“You’re not a bad person. But you made a small mistake. Not like his, but still a mistake. Who doesn’t make mistakes though? All the greatest things came around from so called mistakes. Take me for example.”
Both of you crack up at the random humor the conversation has somehow led to. Miryo always said that she was the mistake child in the family and that our parents didn’t really want her. Of course she was just saying all of that to get more attention. Everyone knew that Miryo was the little princess of the house. But she has you laughing now.She hops off the bed and walks over to you. She reaches both her hands down and takes yours. She pulls you up to your feet.
“So what are you thinking?” she smiles.“I’m thinking I need to go find him.” You answer with confidence.“How are you going to do that?”
“I’m not exactly sure. He did a drastic thing the real night we had met. Perhaps I need to do something drastic to bring him back too.” Your mind works fast.“Seems reasonable. Not too, too, drastic though, right, unnie?”
“No, nothing bad. But I think I’ll go into town and look for him.”She nods. “Good plan!”
You go to your room and change clothes. Your parents had left early this morning and it was just you and Miryo now. You pass her on your way out, keys in hand.“Ok, Miryo, lock up the house. Behave yourself. Do NOT leave! I’ll be back later tonight.”
“Okay!” she chimes. You go out to the car and drive towards town. What do you say to him? Will he come to you? Where is he? He’s your Night Warrior; he should keep his eye on you. What if he’s not your warrior anymore? You fired him.
