Reunion (1/1)
There’s something in Kyuhyun’s eyes that Ryeowook decides he doesn’t like, from the moment Kyuhyun steps inside the gates of the palace for the first time in weeks (months? Years? Ryeowook doesn’t know anymore, he doesn’t keep track, he never gave track ever since Kyuhyun told him that he would come back, he promised, and then when he does – if he does, Siwon reminds him – when he does -- ). Ryeowook is overcome with an immense sense of longing and almost instinctive fear, and it makes him feel guilty afterwards, when the elation that he knows he is supposed to feel doesn’t come until hours later, after Kyuhyun finally exits his mother-in-law’s sleeping quarters and comes to a stop in front of him in the middle of the hallway, face to face, the crease between his eyebrows smoothening and the downward curve of his lips morphing into something supremely beautiful and sincere that Ryeowook can’t help it if his heart shudders and snaps into place all over again, just like before.
“Later,” whispers Kyuhyun as he touches his arm, briefly, on his way past him, and by the time Ryeowook remembers to nod only later, too disoriented and absorbed in his emotions to notice that Siwon has been watching with a displeased expression behind him, one hand twisted into a fist, the other held to his heart.
