[M] Chapter 13 (1/1)
“I-I feel for you, Woonie..” he said quietly, unsure of whether to say those four words Dongwoon most wanted to hear or not. The older boy let go of his hands and cupped his face, brushing the hair out of his eyes and staring at him, eyes full of love and desire.“You do?” he whispered back. Gikwang nodded.“I.. I don’t think I can say it back just yet, though. I spent my whole life in that place with Doojoon looking out for me and loving me. I feel.. I feel like I’m betraying him almost. As much as I feel for you and as much as I want us to be together, it might take a while for me to say the words I know you want to hear.” He said gently. “Can you wait for me? Because on my part, I know you’re worth it. I want whenever I do say it to really mean it, rather than just say it because you have. It’s just that right now, I need some more time to come to terms with Doojoonie’s death, especially as the baby’s so close to being born.” He said nervously, hoping and praying that Dongwoon wouldn’t turn his back on him now.“Kiki, I would wait fifty years if it meant one day I could hear you say those words to me. I never even expected you to like me back, let alone expect you to love me just yet. Truthfully, I just wanted to say it to you so I could stop worrying about confessing every five seconds. If there’s anything worth waiting for, it’s you.” Dongwoon replied, smiling. Of course, he was slightly disappointed, but he knew Gikwang was right and the last thing he wanted to do was rush him into something.“You’re one in a million, Son Dongwoon. Now I want you to move closer and come give me a hug.”“You’re so cute when you’re demanding.” He teased. Gikwang gasped.“I am not demanding!”“Mmhmm, sure you’re not.”Gikwang opened his mouth to say something witty but Dongwoon leant in and gently captured his lips, shaking a little from nerves as he did so. The younger boy forgot everything he was going to say and let his arms slide around Dongwoon’s neck, successfully bringing their faces closer together, even though the baby bump was in their way. It was a slow and slightly inexperienced kiss, but it meant a lot to both boys as they locked lips. Within the first second, Dongwoon knew he was addicted to Gikwang’s lips and it was obvious as they deepened the kiss that he just couldn’t get enough. The younger boy whimpered and pulled away, gasping for air but smiling. Dongwoon opened his heavy eyes and looked at Gikwang as if he really was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen.“That.. was exceptional..” he commented breathlessly. “I am still allowed to do that, right? Even though we’re not technically a thing?” Gikwang laughed.“Trust you to sound like you’re going to be taken to court and jailed over one simple kiss. Of course you’re allowed.” He retorted. Dongwoon grinned.“Ah, but you forget that was my first kiss, dear.” He said, putting on a jokingly posh voice. Gikwang’s eyes widened a little until he remembered that was true. He nuzzled his nose into Dongwoon’s neck.“Well then, you’re already an amazing kisser. Although, I want another one just to make sure it wasn’t just good luck.” He said softly, nipping playfully at the skin on Dongwoon’s neck. The young man positively glowed. He dropped his hands to Gikwang’s waist and held him there, feeling like he was living a dream as he got to be so close with the boy he loved.“If I could be Doojoon right now and make you truly happy-“ Gikwang frowned and held his index finger to Dongwoon’s thin lips.“No, don’t even finish that sentence, Son Dongwoon. I miss Doojoon more than I can say and of course I wish he was still here- he’s the father of my baby and my first love, for god’s sake. Every day I wake up and wish he was still here. But at the same time, I wake up thinking that I’m glad you’re beside me. You do make me truly happy, Woonie. Simply by being you. Just because I’m not quite ready to express my feelings yet doesn’t mean they’re not there. Doojoon was Doojoon and you are you. That’s how I like it. Now don’t you ever go changing, ok?” he said fiercely, though his face was as cute and concerned as ever. Dongwoon ran his fingers through the teenager’s soft black hair, loving how it felt against his skin.“See? Demanding.” He joked softly. Gikwang smiled and pressed his plump lips back against Dongwoon’s, where they seemed to feel most comfortable.“Your lips..” he said, dazed when they had pulled away. “Anyway, promise me you will stop comparing yourself to Doojoon. He was incredible, but so are you. You’re you and that’s why I like you.”“I promise.” Dongwoon replied, though he knew he would probably never be able to fully stop wondering if certain things he did would ever live up to Doojoon, even when Gikwang was ready to fully accept his confession.Narsha knocked on the bedroom door, holding two cups of tea. She raised an eyebrow at their ruffled appearances, taking in the swollen lips and tousled hair. She smiled when her eyes came across their joined hands.“Dongwoonie, I do hope you aren’t leading my Kiki baby astray.” She teased, placing the cups of tea on Gikwang’s night stand. Gikwang chuckled and Dongwoon’s jaw dropped.“Me? Lead him astray? He’s the pregnant one!” he joked, gesturing to the huge bump. Gikwang slapped his chest playfully and Narsha laughed.“Fair point.” She agreed.“Narsha!” The teenager cried, outraged. She grinned and put her hands up in surrender.“I only came in here to bring you both some tea, anyway. Eomma said it might help calm baby down for a while, seeing as he or she seems to be plaguing you quite a lot on his or her road to birth! Argh, I’m so excited! It could be any day now!” she squealed, imagining how cute the child was going to be. Gikwang eye-smiled and nodded.“I can’t wait! Although I’m slightly worried about the whole labour part..” he admitted, nibbling his lip.“You’ll be fine. You’re strong, Kiki. Plus I’ll be there any time you want to hold my hand or scream something at me.” Dongwoon reassured, bringing their clasped hands up to his lips and kissing them softly. Narsha smiled at them and nodded in agreement. Hopping on the bed, she wrapped her arms around the teenager and gave him a warm cuddle. Gikwang didn’t feel all that strong, two weeks later, as he lay down on the sofa in the living room, sobbing and groaning at the painful contractions happening within him. They had been occurring throughout the day, each more painful and significant than the last. Not that this was anything majorly new, he had been having contractions few and far between since the day before, but nothing like this. They had been sitting at the dinner table for breakfast earlier that morning when Gikwang suddenly doubled up, his chopsticks cascading to the floor as he clutched his stomach. The rest of the family had jumped into action, Mrs. Son explaining that although these were just contractions and labour could take hours from this point, she wanted to have everything prepared beforehand. Mr. Son fetched blankets and pillows and Dongwoon led Gikwang by the hand to the sofa, where Narsha had told him to lie down. Taecyeon tagged along, not fully understanding the situation, but wanting to be of help anyway. So that’s how he ended up here, on the sofa, face scrunched up from agony as a particularly painful contraction took place. Dongwoon had pulled up a chair next to the sofa and was holding his hand, not minding when the teenager dug his nails in too hard.“Kiki, you’re doing so well. I’ve got you, I’ve got you.” He whispered. Tears streamed down Gikwang’s full cheeks and his breath was shaky, but he managed a small smile.Eventually, the contraction came to a stop and the teenager panted, letting his head roll back onto the arm of the sofa. Dongwoon kissed his cheek.“Not much longer now, baby.” He added, trying to encourage the boy. The younger nodded weakly and closed his eyes, snuggling up in the blanket and trying to get comfortable on his back. “Get some sleep. I’ll stay in the room for when you wake up. If you need anything, just shout; I’ll only be reading.” Gikwang responded with a nod and let himself drift off, not wanting to have to wake up and go through pain all over again.Sure enough, two hours on from then, a new contraction began, pulling Gikwang from his sleep. The teenager howled, biting the back of his hand to try and focus on something other than his stomach. Mrs. Son decided that this was the right time to bring the team of doctors and nurses she worked with into the house, as the baby seemed to be coming at any time. She gave Gikwang a quick kiss on the forehead before grabbing her coat and rushing to the infirmary. Even though the boy had only been in her care for a few months, she already felt a strong attachment to him and it hurt her to see him in pain, hence her motherly urges spurring her to do anything and everything to help. While Mrs. Son gathered the doctors and nurses, Mr. Son tried to make the living room as clean as possible, removing anything that could cause an infection when the boy was giving birth. Dongwoon sat on the armchair opposite the sofa, unable to concentrate on his book due to worrying about Gikwang. He stole glances at the younger boy, taking in his appearance to make sure he was alright except for the contraction. Dongwoon would’ve been by his side in a flash to hold him close and tell him it was going to be ok, but his father had told him to keep out of the way until the doctors arrived, just to prevent any complications.“Appa, how long until the doctors get here? He’s in agony!” he demanded of his father, getting worked up. The man walked up to his son and held his shoulders.“They’ll be here any minute, I promise. I know this is difficult for you- hell, I’m out of my mind with worry for the kid- but you’ve got to be calm and let the professionals do their jobs.” He said gently. Dongwoon inhaled deeply and nodded, knowing his father was right. When the doctors arrived, bags of equipment and the special portable operation table they used for home births at the ready, they were ushered quickly into the living room by a frantic Mrs. Son. Doctor Yang told everyone to stay back while she checked Gikwang over to see if he was ready for the emergency Caesarean Section. She crouched down and held his hand to comfort him.“Gikwang, dear, it’s me, Doctor Yang. I checked you over a few months ago, remember?” she asked softly. He whimpered from the pain but nodded. “Now, you look to me like you’re just about ready to have the baby now, but I have to be sure because you’re male and that means we have to perform an operation to get him or her out safely. You’re going to have to be very brave, but we will do it perfectly and you and your baby will be fine and ready for cuddles by the end of the day.” She said it all with an optimistic, friendly tone. Gikwang managed a tiny smile that quickly contorted with the pain. Breathing became a struggle for him as he tried to deal with the amount of things he was feeling.“Gikwang, breathe rhythmically. You can’t start panic-breathing, or it could distress you and the baby. Breathe in and breathe out as steadily as you can. Try and stay calm, sweetie.” The doctor instructed, giving a little demonstration as to how he should do it. He let out a groan but copied her, red in the face from all the shallow breaths. “Good job, Gikwang, good job. Keep going. I’m just going to have a quick feel of the baby and then we’ll get started.” She said confidently, placing her hand on the bump and rubbing it to feel where the baby was. She hummed and retrieved her hand.“Definitely ready. Can you feel how low down the baby is?” she asked Gikwang. The boy gritted his teeth and nodded yet again. “Right, everyone but the team and the patient needs to leave the room in case of contamination. I’ll let you know as soon as it’s all over, ok?” she ordered, clapping her hands. Dongwoon rushed over to Gikwang and gave him one last kiss on the corner of his mouth.“Be brave, Kiki. I’ll see you really soon. You’re amazing.” He whispered so that no one else could hear. Then, reluctantly to say the least, he left the room with everyone else, his chest and stomach feeling tight.Gikwang looked up at the doctor with fear in his huge brown eyes. She rubbed his stomach gently to show him it was ok, and then pulled the blanket off him. A nurse helped her to position him onto the small operation table. Another nurse passed her a can labelled ‘ethyl chloride’ and she sprayed, telling Gikwang to breathe in. His eyes fluttered shut as he fell unconscious.
