Cookies and Milk (1/1)

“It is two in the fucking morning. What do you want?”Yongguk had been awakened by his phone ringing, and had no sympathy for whoever was on the other end of the line. He liked his sleep and didn’t appreciate having it interrupted.“Yonggukkie-hyung?”The small voice whimpering through the phone made Yongguk feel bad for snapping at the boy.“I had a bad dream.”Yongguk sighed. He knew Zelo would already be outside his door. The younger boy lived down the hall, and no matter how many times Yongguk told him just to come in, he would still call first. He put the phone down and half stumbled to the door. When he opened it, the blanket-bundled figure on the floor scooted its way into the dark room.“You know I don’t lock the door.”Yongguk said, while stepping over the blanketed figure, making his way to the kitchen. His apartment was a large open space with only one separate room, being the bathroom. Everything was set up as if it should have walls between the rooms, but none were there. Yongguk found this much more  to his liking than a traditional house, plus he could move any of the furniture out of the way if they decided to have dance practice in his apartment.“I don’t like barging in Yonggukkie-hyung.”The still bundled Zelo started to unroll himself from the blankets, and pulled his lanky figure onto the couch. Yongguk stuck a cup of milk into the microwave and pulled some oreos out of a cupboard. He wasn’t one much for sweets, but he kept them for nights like this.“Tell me about your dream.”Zelo had been waiting for the question and dove into his story.“It was all dark, and there was a scary noise. I tried to see in the dark but I could only hear things. The monster was coming closer to me so I started to run and I could hear its steps behind me getting closer, but I couldn’t run any faster.”The younger boy paused and took a breath, looking over at his elder who was busy making his milk and cookies.“Then I started to fall, and when I hit the ground…”He swallowed, fear was choking him, and he could feel tears prickling behind his eyes.“when I hit the ground, the thing was above me. It had red eyes, and feathers, and it was scary Yonggukkie.”He whined and hid his face in the blankets, pulling them over his head. Yongguk had finished the snack, and sat down next to Zelo. He could hear the soft sigh of tears in Zelo’s voice now.“Why can’t I get a good night sleep? Am I cursed?”Yongguk pulled the blanket from Zelo’s pouting face and handed him the tray of warm milk and cookies.“Not cursed. Maybe crazy. But not cursed.”He looked at Zelo out of the corner of his eye. He was glaring at the older boy while munching on his cookies.“You don’t really make me feel better Yonggukkie.”This made Yongguk laugh a little bit.“Then don’t come to me.”Zelo frowned and sipped his milk.“I bet the neighbor lady would be nicer to me. She might even have cherry tomatoes.”Yongguk rolled his eyes. The young boy had an obsession with cherry tomatoes and had eaten all of Yongguk’s the night before when he came sobbing into his room with the same complaints of bad dreams. Zelo had finished his snack and curled up next to Yongguk on the couch. Yongguk ruffled the boy’s pink hair.“Go get in bed Z.”Zelo jumped from the couch, leapt over the coffee table, and dove under the covers of Yongguk’s bed. Yongguk pulled the blanket from the back of the couch and lay down.“Yonggukkie?”“Hmm?”“Goodnight.”Yongguk smiled to himself.“Goodnight Zelo.”
