The Runner - Baekho (1/1)

‘Running away was never the answer’ your parents reinforced that saying especially when you were really emotional. You knew that there was no other way that you could let out your frustration and anger. Somehow it calmed you for a while knowing that you didn’t have to deal with the situation quite yet. You always ran away from things until they got better that was your talent, your way of thinking. The streets were filled with onlookers as you walked home after a very long day at work, dodging people that just tried to get back home as well. With each step you became closer to your apartment and your boyfriend, who always waited up for you no matter what. You slid the brass key into the lock as it turned and allowed you to enter into your home. Sighing with relief you took off your shoes and went into change into some other clothes. You heard the door open and close, but you weren’t worried about it since your boyfriend wasn’t home yet. You walked out of your bedroom now in your relaxed clothes as you laid your eyes on the most betraying act that anybody had done to you. He had her wrapped around him like a monkey as she unbuttoned his shirt and he placed her on your counter. You ran out of the apartment devastated as the scene just continued, nothing stopped for you and why would it. You weren’t anybody, you were the runner.Your heart pounded inside of your chest as you ran through the crowds that occupied the streets. Not looking at the lights you took off across the cross walk as people screamed and yelled at you before you fell to the ground after tires cursed into the air at an alarming rate. Lights flashed and went black in a matter of seconds, the hard cold pavement sent chills up your body as a shot of pain ran up your lower leg. You felt the warm blood running down your head as you wiped some of the blood from your lip. You quizzically gazed down to warm arms around your body. Your head encased in his arms as he sat up next to you. He looked at your head and your leg as he took off his t shirt that he was wearing and placed it on your arm where something was lodged. He looked deeply down to you as your scared expression said it all. His eyes were so kind and loving until you noticed the little old couple that climbed out of the car.Red, blue and white lights flashed as sirens pierced the ears of all of the bystanders that witnessed the accident. Police walked around clearing the area as he looked back down at you, another wave of pain shot though you as your body tensed bringing you to grip his biceps with your hands. He held you close to him as his eyes became worried; he looked around frantically until he couldn’t take it anymore. He stood up and pulled you to your feet as you tried to bare weight on your injuries that littered your body. You took a couple steps as your leg gave way and you fell to the ground once again. He picked you back up giving you and encouraging smile as he nodded his head slowly. He wrapped his arms around you as the people parted the way. He held you for a couple blocks until you couldn’t take it anymore. The pain was just too much, tears rolled down your cheeks as he let you rest on a nearby box.“It is going to be ok; you’re going to make it. I promise” He leaned against the wall looking down the direction of the alley way. A sudden commotion startled you as you stood up to run away. The sirens, they came for you. You stood to your feet as you tried to stumble away, just to fall against the concrete once again. He was there to pick you up, he set you back on the box as he moved to your level and you looked him in his eyes.“I am going to get help, stay here, please. Don’t run, it will always make things worse” He said as you nodded slowly, he waved his hands in the air as the police slowed down and got out of their car to see what the commotion was. The world begun to spin faster and faster and it just went black in an instant. He ran over to you as the two police men ran behind him. He picked you up and moved you to the car where you were immediately taken to the hospital. Your eyes opened a little as the fuzzy vision took over, you saw him looking down at you as he hit the seat, trying to make them go faster. He cradled your head in his arms trying to keep you with him.The smell of cleaners crept into your pulsating head as you looked around you plain room. Your leg and arm were in a sling and your head in a tight bandage. You looked around trying to piece everything together. You sat there for a while as you got lost in thought. A hard knock came to the door as head rolled over to the other side of the pillow. The door opened a crack as you saw flowers emerge from the hallway. Then one man that looked vaguely familiar came from the door as he waved at you, showing you his sweet smile once again.“I am glad to see that you are awake.” He took a seat next to you as he placed the flowers on your table next to your bed. You had so many things that you wanted to say but you couldn’t get them out of your mouth, you closed your eyes in frustration as he put his hand on your shoulder.“The doctor said that you got a pretty bad concussion and it will take a couple days for you to talk again, so one blink for yes and two for no” The cool air on your tears made you cry harder as you covered your face with your hand. He slowly brought it down to your side as you looked at him. “Hey it is going to be ok, I won’t leave you” you rolled your eyes knowing the last person to say that to you was the one with the woman around his body.“Let’s start again then my name is Baekho” You shook his hand as he smiled. His hand slid through yours as he looked into your eyes.“Do you remember what happened?” You blinked once as his question as you looked down and played with the blanket that draped over your figure. Just then another man came through your door holding a stuffed animal. You looked at the entering man, it was your boyfriend, and you looked over at Baekho.“Do you know him?” You blinked once as his hand slid from yours. You reached for his hand again pulling him back to you.“You want him to leave?” You blinked once as he sat back down, giving you all the attention that you need“Do you want me to leave?” You blinked twice as he smiled at you. “Sir, can you please leave” Your boyfriend was taken aback by this as he set his gift to you on the table. You pushed it off into the trash can as he took it out.“You never cared for me, that is what I did what I did. I have feelings too and you never gave them to me” Your boyfriend yelled at you as you held back the tears as best as you could. You turned on your side crying into your hands with Baekho’s still in yours.“Leave now!” Beakho said sternly as your boyfriend got in a few more words.“She is better than you anyways. I don’t regret that move, but I regret trying to get back with you. Your worthless” More tears fell from your eyes as Beakho guided him out of your room and came back to your side.“Is he the reason, is that the person that you were trying to run away from?” You nodded your head as he sat on your bed holding you close.“Do you love him” You shook your head as you cried into his shirt harder than ever. He waited a while just holding you in his arms as you calmed down.“Well I think that you are beautiful, he sure missed out. You don’t have to run anymore.” He smiled down at you as you kissed his hand to give thanks for everything that he had done.
