Leaning On Each Other (1/1)

I was at the hospital for more than four hours now, and I went out from my house at 8 this morning. Junhyung and the rest of Beast had long arrived, together with Hyunseung’s parents and some of their parents, while my own parents were unable to come since they were out of state for my dad’s business trip. We were now in front of the operation theatre at level three, the doctors had to operate on Hyunseung’s broken arm, and I was sitting with them, still shocked and stunned with this whole incident. Three things I hate the most in my life were hospitals, needles and blood. And I had those things right in front of my eyes at that moment. I couldn’t quiver enough. In the last four hours, I had cancelled my date with Joon, telling him that something came up without really pouring any details about the accident, I stayed unmoved in front of the emergency room until Hyunseung’s parents and the rest of Beast came, I had cleaned up the blood on my hands but I was unable to remove Hyunseung’s blood from my shirt, I had filed a police report although I didn’t really know anything much about what happened to Hyunseung during the accident, and now I was getting nausea from the antiseptic smell of the hospital, the fishy smell of the blood on my shirt and the fact that I hadn’t eaten anything the whole day. “Hani, I think you should go home. You are here longer than any of us, and you must be very tired right now. I really appreciate your concern for Hyunseung, but you are looking pale, my dear.”Hyunseung’s mom stroked my hair and cupped my chin, and I had to agree with her suggestion.“Why don’t we get one of the boys to bring you home, okay?”“I think I should go home too, Mrs. Jang, and thank you for your offer, but I believe I can go back on my own. There are a lot of taxies waiting down there.”“Oh, I couldn’t let you go back alone, not after what you’ve done for my son.”“Really, it’s not a big deal, Mrs. Jang.” I stood up, and bowed at the elders, and gave a final hug to Hyunseung’s mom.“I’ll call when I arrived at my home, so please don’t worry about me. I’ll check up on Hyunseung later, yeah?”“Oh, this isn’t right. This doesn’t feel right, sending you home like this.”She really looked full of guilt, and I felt bad for declining her offer.“Then, why don’t some of the boys send me downstairs and help me find a taxi? Will that be alright with you?”“Ah, yes, let’s do that.” But it was only Junhyung that sent me down. We didn’t say much the whole day, he was busy moving around with his friends while I was comfortable enough by just standing at the sideline, but he would check up on me from time to time, asking “Are you okay?” over and over again. And I could always feel his presence, he never left my sight, and he was always beside me if he was not doing anything. The accident must have shocked him a lot too, his friends were precious to him, but he didn’t show it on his face. We were finally alone in the elevator, and as the door closed, I had this sudden urge to hug him. I didn’t say anything, I just reached out for him and hold him tight, my arms were around him, and I just wanted to stay like that for a while. He was stunned and stiff at first, I could even hear his accelerating heartbeat, but gradually he relaxed, his heartbeat became slow and steady, and he opened up himself to me and pulled me close until there was no more space between us. We exchanged no word, we needed no explanation, we just knew that we needed to lean on each other. We stayed like that until the elevator door opened.
