“So how did Min Junki’s wife die?” Jeon Jungkook asks as we both rummage through notes at the dinner table. It’s currently a little past 2:30 pm and I’m already home. I glance at Jungkook, who’s changed into a simple white shirt and joggers. “She had cancer, I think,” I look at her profile file. I take in her brown hair and pale face...she kind of looks like the past victims. I then grab Min Junki’s profile. “Min Junki lives with his brother now, right?” Jungkook asks and I nod, “Yeah, Min Hoseok.” “Min Hoseok?” Jungkook repeats. I look at him. He gives me a confused look and looks at his files again. He then shakes his head and hands me his files, “That’s not what it says on mine.” Huh? I take his files. Brother (younger): Min Yoongi Min...Yoongi? Yoongi?! I look at the picture next to it. Sure enough, it’s the Yoongi I know. Did Jeon Jungkook know this the whole time? Is that why he was so against me “dating” Yoongi? I’m such an idiot...how could I have not known? The first thing I noticed was that the two look alike. But then again...it’s not my fault my files have a typo. Who is Hoseok anyway? Why doesn’t my profile sheet have any photos? Does Yoongi know about his brother being a suspected murderer? If he does...then he’d be a fellow criminal for not reporting. And if he doesn’t...how am I supposed to tell him? My head starts to hurt. Ugh, so many questions. “Why, what’s the matter?” Jungkook asks, after seeing me pull my hair in frustration. “Did you know it was Yoongi this whole time?” I ask. “Yeah, I mean I was a little surprised when I saw that the Yoongi who called you was the Yoongi on my files this afternoon, but I thought you knew about it too,” he says as he yawns. “I hope he doesn’t have anything to do with the murders,” I groan as I bury my face in my hands. “I doubt he does. Don’t worry about him and focus on this,” Jungkook gives me a slight smile as he rubs his neck. He seems tired. “Okay,” I reply before asking, “You want to take a nap?” I get up to grab a glass of water. “That sounds nice, but I have to find out the origins of the poison that killed the most recent victim,” he sighs. “Not to mention all the victims,” I say as I take a sip and pat his back. He looks at me with his signature puppy eyes like he wants to say something. I raise my eyebrows at him. “Do you want to just...quit all this and run away to some place with me? I’ll take care of you,” he says randomly. “What are you talking about?” I laugh. “Well...I just...don’t want all this work,” he grins with a shrug. I shake my head before returning to my seat and tease, “Oh imagine if Mr. Kim heard you now.” “No seriously,” he leans towards me, with his face resting on one hand. “What?” “Are you going to live your life as an agent forever? Don’t you want to get married someday and have a normal life...maybe with someone who understands you well?” he eyes me. “Like you?” I joke. “Precisely,” he says and laughs when I roll my eyes. “Even if I’m going to marry a fellow agent, I don’t think it’s going to be you,” I tell him and finish the rest of my water. “You never play along,” he says and throws his eraser at me. I laugh. I knew he was joking. I point at our notes. “We have work to do, Agent Jeon.” “Aye aye,” he sighs with a pout before he grabs his papers again. *** “Did you find the origins of the poison?” I ask after a significant amount of time has passed. I look back at Jungkook when I don’t get a response. I can’t help but smile at him. I set down my work and get up before walking towards Jungkook, who’s out cold on the couch. “I thought you promised not to fall asleep when I allowed you to work on the couch,” I say to his sweetly sleeping face. “...” He must have been super tired; he’s not even reacting to my voice. I see the files scattered on the ground and quickly catch his laptop before it completely slides off his lap. Dang. That was close. I quietly close it and set it down before I tug at Jeon Jungkook. “Hey Kookie,” I say annoyingly as I pull his shirt. “...what,” he says in a raspy, low voice. “Go sleep on your bed,” I say to him, not letting go of his shirt. “Stop it…” he whines as he grabs my hand. He’s such a baby when he’s sleeping, goodness. I end up giving up and grab a cushion next to him, placing it near the end of the couch. I then gently push Jungkook so that he lies down and his head meets the cushion I put for him. The one time I can move Jungkook this easily is when he’s sleeping. I get his covers from his bed and place it over him. He doesn’t move and his breathing is steady. Watching him sleep makes me yawn and I look at the clock. 5:00 pm. Already? I grab my jacket and decide to go outside for some fresh air. *** Honestly, I love walking in the streets of Seoul. There’s so much to see and even though it’s starting to get dark, I see numerous people walking around. And...most of them are couples. I sniff back a tear at my single state and look around. I can’t read most of the signs but I notice the amount of restaurants and shops flooding the streets. I then hear my stomach growl. Oh that’s right. I haven’t eaten since...well, last night. I reach in my jacket pocket and find some cash I can use. Should I call Yoongi? I don’t know if I want to go get something to eat by myself. “Hello?” I’m surprised it doesn’t take long for him to pick up. “What are you up to?” I ask brightly. There’s a pause. “Nothing,” is the response. I smile and ask, “Do you want to come out? I want to eat something, but don’t know what.” “...” “Yoongiyah?” I ask when I don’t hear a response. Maybe he doesn’t want to come out. I’ve bothered him again, I realize. “Well if not, then that’s fine--” I start to say. “Where are you?” he cuts me off. I’m surprised but quickly tell him where I am. “Okay, stay right there. I’ll be there in five minutes,” he says. Five? That’s fast. Does he live close? I then remember the fact that he lives with Min Junki...and that’s quite close from here. “Okay!” I say. I try to ignore the fact that he’s Min Junki’s brother. We hang up and I continue looking around at all the shops and couples on dates. I giggle. I have a date too, now. “Did you run to get here?” I ask Yoongi, who’s in front of me, trying to catch his breath. He really did come after 5 minutes. He coughs and places his hand on his chest like he’s trying to calm it down. He shakes his head and asks, “What do you want to eat?” “I don’t know,” I shrug. I look at him expectantly and add, “Maybe you can recommend me something, since you know Seoul a lot better than I do.” “Huh,” he starts to look around. He then points to a sign with huge, brown letters. Korean letters. “Let’s go there,” he says. “What’s there?” I squint at the place. “Soondaegukbap,” he says with a slight smile. He adds, “Blood sausage soup.” “Uh…” I look at him in hesitation with eyebrows puckered. Blood sausages? That doesn’t sound too appetizing. But before I can further question his recommendation, he grabs my hand and leads me into the restaurant. “...” I stare at my food after it’s arrived. I scratch my neck and look up at Yoongi, who hands me a spoon. I take it from him and wait for him to try his first. He grabs a spoon himself and after putting his rice into the hot bowl of soup, he stirs and takes a sip. He looks at me and then at my soup. He sighs and takes the spoon from my hand. “You asked me to recommend you something, didn’t you?” he asks as he puts my rice into my soup bowl. He then hands me my spoon again and gestures for me to try it. I smile weakly at him. “Okay, but I didn’t know you would make me try super exotic food,” I tell him. “Well, that’s what you get for leaving so early today,” he shrugs. He then eyes me as he adds, “Where’d you run off to with that...Jeon Jungkook?” “Nowhere important,” I reply half-heartedly as I put a spoonful of food in my mouth. My eyes enlarge at how unexpectedly tasty this thing is. Like...really. I then start to dive in and stuff my mouth with this stuff. I wince when the hotness nearly burns my tongue. Yoongi laughs as he pours me a glass of water on the table. “I’m not going to steal your food; slow down,” he says and then continues, “Do you like it?” “Yeah,” I nod rapidly as I chew. He shakes his head with a smile. He looks at me after a moment and sighs. I give him a questioning look and his eyes slide down to his food. “I don’t have to worry about Jeon Jungkook, right?” he asks in his low voice, as he uses his spoon to play with his food. “What do you mean?” I swallow. “Like..he’s not someone you have a crush--” he starts to say and I already know what he’s getting at. I shake my head rapidly and almost shout, “No, not at all!” Sorry Kookie. I look at Yoongi, who nods as his lips curl into a satisfied smile before taking another bite. “That was so good!” I give Yoongi a thumbs up as we exit the restaurant. He slightly smiles. I’ve been noticing how Yoongi’s becoming more amiable recently. I mean, I’m not complaining since I get to see his heart warming smiles more. I check the time and realize how I should probably go back to work but I really don’t want to. I turn to Yoongi and ask him if he wants to walk a bit. The streets are lit up brightly as the sky is now pitch black. He nods at my request and we make our way down the sidewalk. Before long, we pass by an arcade, making me stop. I haven’t been to an arcade in so long. I look at all the colorfully lit gaming machines through the window. They look so fun. I take in all the nostalgic vibes and people laughing and can’t help but smile. “You want to go in?” Yoongi breaks the silence as he follows my gaze into the window. I guess he noticed me smiling at this place. I nod and he opens the door for us to enter. “Let’s play that!” I immediately grab his hand and lead him to a shooting game. He follows after and reaches into his pockets. He takes out a bill and hands it to me. I thank him with a huge smile and insert it into the game machine. As soon as I do, the screen lights up and I’m faced with eight enemy soldiers. I quickly grab the gun and begin aiming at the screen. I knock them down in a blink of an eye. Please, I’ve been training for years. Easy. “You’re good,” Yoongi’s voice reaches my ears. I turn to him with a cocky smile and he’s leaning over the railing and watching me play. He seems surprised. I turn around and finish the game. “Yoongiyah,” I call him after finishing the game. He faces me and I point at some basketball hoops. His eyes follow and when they land on the hoops, he raises an eyebrow, “You want to play that?” “Yeah, let’s play together!” I grab his arm and he follows. We stand next to each other as the machine lights up and basketballs fall down to our reach. I grab one and aim at the hoop. I shoot and the ball goes in the hoop easily. I grin and glance at Yoongi. “You better not go easy on me,” I tease. He glances back at me and smirks as he grabs a ball himself. “Yeah right.” We end up with a tie. “Good game,” I wink at him and he looks away with a slight cough. Okay maybe the wink was too much, seeing his ears turning pink. I then spot Yoongi eyeing a classic fighting game. The one where you sit down and choose your fighter. I smile and take his hand. He looks at me surprised and I sit him down as I take the seat next to him. I take out a few coins and insert it into the machine and nudge Yoongi. “Pick a fighter,” I tell him and he silently nods. His long, pale fingers grab the controls and his face is so serious. As we begin our match, I’m so lost as to what to press. But I quickly catch on and try my best to use my fingers to kick, punch, and use special attacks. Still, I’m no match against Yoongi’s experienced hands. He moves the controls like he’s been playing for years. After a minute or two, my face is met with a screen that reads: K.O. “I won!” Yoongi exclaims as he points at the screen and gets up. I’ve never seen him grin from ear to ear like that. I guess he’s a kid at heart, since games make him so happy. I gladly applaud for him and admit my defeat. He stretches for a bit and then grabs my arm, pulling me up. “Let’s head home now,” I say to him as I check the time. It’s already past seven and I have five missed calls from Jungkook. Yoongi looks at me with a small pout but soon nods. As we exit the arcade, I wave to Yoongi and start to walk away when I feel a hand grab mine. “...?” I turn and find myself staring into the eyes of Yoongi. He clears his throat before saying, “Where do you live? I’ll take you home.” *** After saying goodbye to Yoongi, I open the door of my house and find Jungkook standing in the kitchen. “You’re up,” I greet him. “Where’d you go?” he turns to me as he holds a frying pan. “I went to get something to eat,” I respond as I make my way next to him. “What’re you making?” I ask him. “Well since my roommate left me hungry on the couch, I decided to make some fried rice,” he glares at me and I shrug. It smells delicious. Jungkook bops me on the head as I lean in towards the frying pan. “I’m not giving you any,” he pouts and I smile at him. I then notice how clean the house is and ask him if he cleaned up all our papers. He nods and pours the rice onto a plate. He then makes his way towards the table and grabs a spoon. “Good job, Kookie,” I ruffle his hair. He looks at me unamused but ends up smiling. “Did you find anything new?” I sit across from him. He takes a bite of his meal and slowly nods. I look at him expectantly. “Well, I found the origins of the poison,” he says. “And..?” “And...it’s a drug called Waridi (I MADE THIS DRUG UP). It’s hard to find any in Korea, and I’m curious as to how Min Junki had access to it,” Jungkook says as he chews. “Waridi?” I repeat. I get out my phone and begin to research. Waridi: “the rose” Believed to be able to summon a dead person’s soul into another person’s body. Comes in pill forms and dissolves in drinks. Can have major side effects and result in even death if mixed with alcohol. What is this stuff? Some sorcery? I read the descriptions over and slowly come to a conclusion. But it might just be an assumption. I look at Jungkook who looks back at me with raised eyebrows. He’s already halfway done with his meal and I get up to hand him a glass of water. “Thanks,” he says with his mouth full. “Yeah,” I respond and sit back down before going on, “I think I might have a theory on all this, but I want you to hear me out.” “Okay but don’t scare me.” “Do the police know of this drug?” I ask and Jungkook shrugs, “They gave me the drug to investigate it.” “Can they do that?” “I think this case falls under ICJA’s responsibilities. So technically, yes.” “Okay well, let me say what I think. Ready?” I lean forward. He nods and continues to eat. “Min Junki’s wife passed away due to cancer and left him devastated. I think I read that he was very close with his wife,” I begin. “Yeah, and I even asked local people who knew them very well over the phone when you went out. They all said they were close,” Jungkook adds. “See? So it’s obvious he must be suffering some sort of depression. I found this out when I noticed a slight hand tremor and also when I witnessed him buying endless stocks of soju.” “Huh,” he says. “And I also witnessed him getting mental health counseling. But that’s not all,” I stare intently into Jungkook’s eyes and he flinches. “Stop making this so dramatic,” he whines. “This is important,” I say before going on, “He seems to have a date ever so often. The most recent victim was a date.” Jungkook’s eyes enlarge. I continue. “It says this drug, Waridi, is believed to have powers of summoning a dead person into another person’s body. Don’t you think that perhaps Min Junki wanted to summon his dead wife into the victims’ bodies?” “That’s just creepy,” Jungkook shudders but soon nods, “But I’m seeing what you’re saying. If that’s the case, then it makes sense as to why all the victims even look like his deceased wife. And why they’re all hair salonists.” “Min Junki’s wife was a hair salonist?” I ask. I didn’t know that. “Yeah,” Jungkook nods and this time it’s me who shudders. “Min Junki is one messed up guy,” I say. “Seriously though. But if Min Junki used this drug himself, he probably put it in her drink, since that’s how it’s supposed to be consumed. But last time I checked the security cameras of the restaurant where his most recent date was at, I couldn’t find any suspicious actions from him,” Jungkook takes a sip of water. “I think he may have put it in some alcoholic drink. It says that the drug doesn’t work too well with alcohol and could kill the person consuming it,” I tell him and he looks at me with a confused face. “Yeah, the victim’s body was found with alcohol, for sure. But do you think he wasn’t aware of the fact that the drug has the potential to kill someone when mixed with alcohol?” he asks. I shrug. “I guess not. I don’t think he intended to kill the victims at all; he just wanted to see if he could summon his wife back into their bodies. But…” I start to say when I suddenly remember the tracker I put on Min Junki’s car the night of the murder. I jump up and grab my laptop. I enter in the code of the tracker I had (I had written it down on my phone) and a window pops up. “What’s the matter? Don’t leave me hanging,” Jungkook looks at me as he scoops up the last few bits of his meal. I look at the locations and times of his car. I put the tracker on it at around.. 3 pm, I think. 3:10 pm-6:10 pm: Restaurant A parking lot6:30 pm-7:10 am (next day): Min Junki’s Residence7:30 am--: University B parking lot “The death occurred at around 8:40 pm, right?” I turn my screen to show Jungkook. He slowly nods and squints to take a look. “Yeah, but why is he home when the murder took place?” he looks at me. I look back and I can’t help but think, is he not the murderer? “How long does it take for the drug to kick in? Does it have immediate effect?” Jungkook asks and I shrug. My eyes then enlarge as a thought comes to me and I clap my hands before shouting, “Jeon Jungkook, you’re a genius!” “Yeah I know,” he smirks before asking, “But why?” He tilts his head in confusement. “I’m looking up how long it takes for the drug to kick in,” I scroll through the documents Jungkook found earlier on the drug’s origins. “It apparently takes 1-2 hours for it to show any effects.” “That’s a big range,” Jungkook says before asking, “So..?” “Min Junki went home and didn’t leave his house until he had to go to work the next day. It could be that he took her home, fed her the drug in some alcoholic drink, and sent her back home. Where does she live again?” I ask. “Not too far from the restaurant they were at,” Jungkook looks at the files again as he pushes his finished plate away to the side. “So does that mean as she was going home...she died?” Jungkook looks at me with large eyes. “Possibly,” I say back. Hm, we’re definitely getting somewhere. “I mean, she has to pass by the restaurant to get home,” Jungkook shows me his phone that reveals a map from Min Junki’s apartment to the victim’s house. The restaurant is indeed along the way. “And so if he fed her the drug at his house, it makes sense as to why the security cameras couldn’t catch him red-handed. He probably doesn’t have cameras at home,” I add. Jungkook nods and his gaze becomes serious as he says, “Then I guess you’ll have to find a way to go inside his home and find the drug for evidence.” *** Thank goodness it is Saturday today because that means I don’t have any classes, which means I can spend the day finding a way into Min Junki’s home. “Okay. While I give a brief report to Mr. Kim about our findings last night, I want you to call that Min Yoongi dude and find a way into his house,” Jungkook says to me as he organizes his papers. I nod. He gives me a serious look and continues, “And when you find the drug, send me a text and I’m going to gather ICJA folks to bust in, okay?” “Okay,” I tell him and take a deep breath. I feel sorry to Yoongi for using him like this to arrest his own brother, but I have to do my job. I just hope things don’t go too wrong...I want to maintain a good relationship with Yoongi...even after this mission. “Hello? (y/n)?” I find Yoongi’s voice hoarse, like he’s just woken up. I glance at the clock: 8:15 am. Makes sense. “I’m sorry, did I wake you?” I ask cautiously. There’s a pause before I hear, “Is something wrong?” “No, I just wanted to know if you finished last week’s project,” I say casually, looking at one of the college syllabi I find next to me. “Yeah,” he says. “Really? I’m having a hard time on it,” I say in my best “pitiful” voice. “Do you want me to help you?” Yoongi asks. Yes, he asked first. “That would be great!” I say and wait for him to respond. “Do you want to meet today?” he asks and I quickly reply, “Yes! Can I come over?” There’s a long pause and I’m biting my nails, worried that I sounded too rash. But before I can explain myself, I hear Yoongi say, “Yeah sure.” So now I’m in front of the Min brothers’ door and it’s only barely 9 am. We’re almost there. I just have to find the drug in this house and then we can finally arrest Min Junki for further investigation. I’m glad interrogating is Mr. Kim’s job, because I hate questioning people aggressively like he does. “(y/n)?” I hear Yoongi’s voice a few seconds later after my knock. “Yeah, it’s me,” I say with a smile. The door soon opens, and I’m face to face with Yoongi. He steps back and nods at me to come in. He’s wearing an apron like he’s been cooking something, and I can’t help but grin at the sight of him. He looks like the perfect husband material...oh what am I saying? I follow after him and he tells me to sit down on the couch while he finishes up something as he walks into the kitchen. But I have to start as soon as possible to get the job done. As soon as Yoongi is out of sight, I walk to the nearest door and silently pray it’s Min Junki’s room. And that he is not in there. “Hello…?” I say quietly and before I realize, I’m looking at a blonde man throwing on a shirt. “(y/n)?” the man says and I squint my eyes at him before enlarging them. “Jin?!” I say with my hands covering my mouth. His eyes stare into mine before he breaks into a grin, “Yoongi told me you’d be coming, but you’re here earlier than I thought.” “And you’re...blonder than I remember,” I say back. He laughs and nods. “When did you dye it?” I ask him. He looks so different. But so good. “Yesterday,” he yawns. I nod, remembering that I didn’t have any classes with him yesterday and not seeing him because of that. “You look so...amazing,” I say bluntly and Jin blushes. He runs his long fingers through his hair and shrugs, “Do you think so?” “Yeah, I honestly find blonde guys pretty attractive. It suits you so well,” I assure him with a double thumbs up. I can’t remember the last time I saw an Asian guy rock blonde hair like this and I can’t help but applaud. I mean I do like blonde guys...but okay (y/n), you’re getting too distracted. “Kim Seokjin, you’re going to be late,” I hear Yoongi’s voice behind me. He looks at the two of us with an irritated face and roughly hands Jin a sandwich. “Hurry up and leave.” “Oh darn it, you’re right!” Jin looks at the clock and his eyes turn huge. He then thanks Yoongi for the sandwich and waves goodbye before running out. After Jin leaves, I look around the room and ask Yoongi, “What was Jin doing here?” “He got drunk last night and slept over. He never remembers he has work on Saturdays,” Yoongi shakes his head and then turns to me. “Did you eat breakfast?” “No,” I answer without thinking. Before I’m aware, Yoongi pulls my arm and leads me to the kitchen. I’m about to say I’m fine but he sits me down and places a plate of toast and eggs in front of me. I end up smiling at him and grabbing a fork before taking a bite. I nod to him to confirm it’s delicious and he gives me a slight smile. “You look great in that apron, by the way,” I tell him, breaking the silence. I notice his ears turning red and he quickly goes to the stove. I look around the kitchen and can’t help but wonder if the drug is here. It’s either here or in Min Junki’s room. But where even is Min Junki’s room? Was it the room Jin was at? I decide to look for it in the kitchen first. How do I do this, though? “Oh, that smells yummy” I walk up to Yoongi and peek at the pot he’s working in. He flinches for a moment and then asks me if I finished my meal. I shake my head but tell him I want some water. “I’ll get you some, sit down,” he pushes me towards the table but I shake my head. “No, I’ll get it,” I say and start to open cabinets muttering, “Where are the cups…?” I try to make this as natural as possible. “(y/n),” Yoongi’s voice reaches my ears as I’m rummaging through different drawers and cabinets. I respond with a “Yeah?” before continuing to look through. I hope I don’t look too dumb roaming in his kitchen. I’m picturing the drug’s red quality and continue scanning for some container that might hold pills. I stop after Yoongi’s question. “Do you really find blonde men...attractive?” he asks rather quietly. “..?” I look at him, but he doesn’t meet my eyes. His ears are still red. I touch one of his ears, scared it’s going to burn off or something. He flinches and looks at me with large, bunny eyes. I can’t help but grin at him. “Yeah, I guess,” I tease. He must have heard my conversation with Jin. “...” Yoongi doesn’t say anything but hands me a cup of water and I thank him as I go back to my seat. I don’t see any drugs here. My eyes roam around the shelf next to the dining table I’m at and my eyes catch two silver containers. I glance at Yoongi, who is engrossed in his cooking, and quietly reach for both of them. I pop open the first one and find it filled with yellow pills. Nope, not this one. I pop open the second one and I can’t believe my eyes. It’s half filled with...red ones. Waridi. I know because I studied images of this drug just this morning. I found it, I’m done. Well that was pretty easy...but that’s just the first step. I put the container with the drug underneath the table and quickly take out my phone to text Jungkook: I found it. Mission complete. Jungkook texts back within seconds: Perfect. Is Min Junki home? “Hey, is your brother home?” I ask Yoongi. He pours his cooking onto a plate and turns to me. “I think he’s sleeping in his room,” he responds before narrowing his eyes, “Wait, how’d you know I have a brother?” “You mentioned him once,” I lie and quickly change the topic, “You should eat. Bring your food here.” Yoongi slowly nods and sits across from me. He glances at me and offers me some of his freshly cooked meal, but I politely decline. My phone vibrates and I see that Jungkook is making his way here. I don’t know how I’m going to explain to Yoongi when Jungkook and the team bust into this place to arrest his brother. Or maybe...if I can distract Yoongi and allow Jungkook to come in and quietly take Min Junki away, I won’t have to explain. I’ll pretend like I wasn’t a part of this. And maybe then I’ll still be able to face Yoongi with a smile. Will this work? “Yoongiyah, let’s go outside for a drink,” I say. I know I sound random but what else can I do? Yoongi’s still chewing when he looks up at me with furrowed brows. “A drink?” he repeats. I nod and then start to get up. “But I’m not done eating,” Yoongi says and then points at my plate, “And neither are you.” “I know, but I really want to go to the cafe across the street,” I put on my best puppy dog face that usually never works. Yoongi sighs but soon starts to get up, “Fine. But promise me you’ll work if we go.” “I promise!” I exclaim as I remember how I came here saying I needed help with a school project. I take a deep breath. Jeon Jungkook is going to be here any minute and I need to take Yoongi out. Yoongi starts to clean the dishes (but saving his unfinished meal for later) and I’m busy pulling his arm so that we can leave. “You can clean that later,” I say. I probably sound like an immature kid right now, but I don’t care. I’m urgent, for crying out loud. Just as we’re about to head out, I see Min Junki already out in the doorway, putting on his shoes. Shoot. Is he going somewhere? He can’t. He’s supposed to be here so that Jungkook can arrest him. I groan and Yoongi looks at me concerned. “Is something wrong?” he asks. Uh, yes. I smile weakly at him and as Min Junki is about to open the door to leave, I shout, “Mr. Min, I have something to say!” (y/n), you are one crazy girl. I can feel my insides burning with panic as the Min brothers both stare at me. “Yes?” Min Junki looks at me expectantly before tilting his head, “Wait, aren’t you one of my students? I didn’t know you were Yoongi’s girlfriend.” “Hyung…” Yoongi starts to say and I take this as an opportunity to keep Min Junki home. “Well, not yet,” I say and Yoongi looks at me with large eyes. I clear my throat and continue, “I...uh...want to be his girlfriend but I don’t want to make any moves before I receive your blessing. You’re his older brother and all, so I want to know if you think I’ll be a good match for your brother!” I almost shout towards the end. I’m cringing all over with embarrassment and I glance at Yoongi, whose face is flushed. I’m sorry, Yoongiyah (MIANHAE YOONGI). Well, it looks like I won’t be able to continue being good friends with him. See, this is why my job interferes with even my potential love life. Ugh. “I mean, if Yoongi says ‘yes’ then who am I to stop you two? Go ahead,” Min Junki laughs a little. I laugh back nervously and hear Yoongi call my name. But before he can say anything else, there’s a knock. I close my eyes. It better be Jeon Jungkook or else-- “Min Junki, I am arresting you on suspicion of murder. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to have an attorney present during questioning…” Jungkook handcuffs Min Junki as soon as the door opens. Min Junki looks at him in horror. “What are you talking about?!” Yoongi yells as he runs towards the two. He tries to jerk Jungkook away from his brother, but another ICJA agent blocks him. I can’t take in all of this. I’m starting to go dizzy. I’ve done many cases, but this one is breaking my heart. Is it because I actually really do like Yoongi and feel bad for taking his brother away? But I have to do my job, and I don’t want any more deaths. I silently watch the commotion when I hear Jungkook call me. “(y/n), where is the drug?” he’s keeping Min Junki, who is fidgeting violently, in place with his huge arms. I snap out of it and walk to the table I left it under. “(y/n)?” Yoongi looks at me with hurt eyes as he watches me hand the silver container to another agent. She checks the insides and nods, “Yes, this is it. Take him away!” “No!” Yoongi shouts, but before I can even process all of this, I find myself left alone in Yoongi’s home. I’m done, aren’t I? I successfully caught Min Junki and now it’s up to Mr. Kim to question and punish him. I should be happy. I should be free. I should be… “(y/n). Tell me you weren’t a part of all this. Tell me you didn’t use me to get my brother!” Yoongi comes back into his house and starts yelling at me. I don’t say anything but take in the fury in his eyes. It’s hard to believe he actually smiled at me with those eyes. I gulp back tears and slowly lower my gaze. “Say something!” Yoongi shouts and all I can say is “I’m so sorry.” I then walk out the door, leaving Yoongi all alone. I hear him cry, “Hyung…” as the door closes. *** Three months have now passed and it feels like everything with Yoongi was a dream. He was my first non-agent friend, my first cute crush, my first… forget it. What am I doing, still thinking about him? But I can’t bring myself to forget his eyes...those fiery yet hurt eyes the last time I saw him. My insides ache as I think about it. “Still thinking about Min Yoongi?” I feel something cold against my cheek and I look to my right to see Jeon Jungkook smiling at me as he holds a cold can of soda up to my face. “How’d you know, you psychic?” I ask as I take the can from him. I open it up and he sits down next to me. “Whenever you have that ‘I just lost the world’ face on, I know it’s about that Min Yoongi,” he opens another can himself and takes a sip. “I just...feel bad I couldn’t explain,” I say, looking at my toes. I feel Jeon Jungkook pat me on the shoulder. “It’s not your fault his brother is a murderer,” he says gently. I nod and sigh. “I know, but it must have been so much to take in,” I say. Jungkook sets his can down and kneels down in front of me. I look down at him. “No matter what, you did well (y/n). And that’s a fact,” he pats my arm and I take in his big, bright eyes that assure me it’s true. I smile weakly at him. I’m glad I have someone like him on my team...ignoring the times he annoys me. “Okay, listen up, folks!” I hear Mr. Kim enter the office room lobby. Jungkook and I both glance at each other before walking out into the lobby. All the members of our team trail in after. “I have decided to recruit a new member to our team,” Mr. Kim begins. Jungkook nudges me and raises an eyebrow while whispering, “Who?” I shrug at him. “It was a difficult decision, but I think he’s going to be an excellent addition to the team,” Mr. Kim claps his hands together. He then laughs at all our curious faces and Jungkook shouts, “Just tell us who it is already!” “Okay okay. Calm down Jeon Jungkook,” Mr. Kim smiles and then pokes his head out into the hallway and says, “Come on in!” A man walks in and it takes me a few seconds to realize who it is. “Hello, my name is Min Yoongi and I’ll be joining you all starting from today.” I know that voice. I know that face. I know that name. I’m fighting back tears as my brain tells me it’s...Yoongi. Min Yoongi. And he’s blonde. I can tell Jungkook is looking at me but I can’t take my eyes off Yoongi. He begins to look around the room and when his eyes meet mine, they stay on me for a while. After we’re sent back to work, I sit in my office and can’t seem to wrap my head around the fact that Yoongi is now a colleague. As I continue spacing out, I soon hear a knock. “Who is it?” “It’s me. Can I see you outside for a minute?” I recognize the voice. It’s Yoongi’s. I quickly get up as my heart beats faster. I follow him outside. Yoongi walks for a good five minutes, taking me to a nearby park. I love coming here for fresh air when it gets stuffy back at headquarters. I take in all the trees and flowers when I notice Yoongi standing in front of me. He looks at me with a blank expression and I keep my distance from him. I want to start explaining everything and tell him I’m more than sorry when he spreads his arms out. I look at him with a confused face. “Come here,” he says in a low voice. It takes me a minute to register what he said and I awkwardly walk towards him. When I’m less than a foot away, he steps forward and wraps his arms around me. I’m startled but don’t push him away. “Did you eat?” he murmurs and I burst into tears. This time it’s Yoongi who is startled and he pulls away to inspect me. “Why are you crying?” he wipes a tear away from my face with his thumb. “Why aren’t you mad at me? Why aren’t you yelling at me for what I did?” I cry out. Yoongi stares at me and then sighs. He then smiles and pulls me in for another hug. He doesn’t let go until I’ve calmed down and my tears have stopped. “Three months ago I would have really hated you. You were the first girl to put up with my coldness and I thought I’d finally found the one. So after you and Jeon Jungkook arrested my brother, I was devastated at how you could betray me like that,” he starts to say as he gently pulls back. I look at him with sorry eyes and he laughs. “But...it took me a while to calm down and see things rationally. It’s not your fault; my brother really is a murderer and I had no idea. It just...took me long to accept that.” “I’m sorry,” I peep and he shakes his head. “No, don’t say that. I believe he deserves the punishment he’s getting,” he looks at the ground. I nod and I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I’m so relieved Yoongi’s not mad. “I was so worried you still hated me,” I say. Yoongi leans in close and murmurs, “How can I hate such a cute face?” I jump back, and feel my face growing hot. Did he take flirting classes over the months? Yoongi slightly throws his head back as he laughs and I realize I’ve never seen him smile or laugh this much. Or talk this much even. “Wait, why’d you join the ICJA?” I ask him and he shrugs before he begins to explain. “Well, to be frank, I was more mad at myself than anyone else for not noticing a murderer who literally lived in the same house as me. I’m taking that as a reason to do everything I can to pay for my oblivion. I want to pursue justice, as corny as that sounds,” he says before adding, “That and I couldn’t get you out of my head.” Oh he’s definitely taking those flirting classes. I smile and nod at him, “You’re in the right place then.” He smiles slightly back and I nudge him shyly, “So you joined partly because you wanted to work in the same place as me?” “Oh is that the only thing you heard in my long explanation?” Yoongi raises an eyebrow at me and I laugh shaking my head. He then looks at me and says, “Well yeah. I missed you.” I feel myself blushing and quietly say, “Me too.” “What was that?” he teases, making me feel so shy. I look away and comment on his hair instead, “I like your hair.” He grins as if he’s satisfied and wraps his large hand around mine. I face him and he looks off into the distance as he says, “Yeah well a girl I like finds blonde guys attractive so…” “Are you really the Yoongi I know?” I ask him with huge eyes, slightly pushing him. Why is he so different? He chuckles at my question and pulls me closer. “Oh you bet,” he replies and continues, “Let’s go a cafe since we couldn’t go last time. I told Mr. Kim we’d be out for long anyway.” “Oh my goodness, you remember that?” my eyes grow wide at how he kept the conversation we had three months ago still in mind. Yoongi just shrugs at me and I smile back at him, feeling touched. As we begin to walk Yoongi suddenly stops and turns to face me. “Wait, don’t tell me your confession was a part of ‘the plan’ to get my brother and therefore fake,” he looks at me with a serious face. Uh… I mean it was a way to keep Min Junki from leaving, but I think my feelings for him were still true. “No, I really did..and do like you,” I say shyly. Ugh, why is this so embarrassing? Yoongi lets out a laugh and tightens his grip on my hand. “Okay then I accept,” he says and I look up at him. What? Accept what? My confession? He sees my lost face and smiles. “So don’t you dare let that Jeon Jungkook touch you okay?” he warns before continuing, “That guy’s so huge I can’t even start a fight if he gets near you.” “Yoongiyah,” I can’t help but laugh as I give him a slight pat on the arm. He faces me again, not letting go of my hand. His eyes become soft for a moment as he breaks into a gummy smile. “You can’t imagine how much I’ve been dying to hear that ‘Yoongiyah’ from you again.” *** Author's Notes: Umm... what was that...? How dare the author come out with such an abrupt ending....?!
