Mountain Soul Part 6-5 (1/1)
PART 6-5 “What is this Martins ?” If the warden's face could turn any redder it would. “I'm leaving for one day and that's what happens in my penitentiary ? What were you thinking ? Where is he now ?”Sitting across the desk, Martins bit his tongue to contain his growing annoyance. He knew sooner or later he would have to deal with the warden, but he didn't know it would be so soon. The man was supposed to attend a meeting on the other side of the country, it was then a wonder how he had heard about this so early.Maybe there was a snitch inside. Who could this be ? This damn Mun was out of the picture, and he hoped he would be forever. So, who could open their mouth behind his back ? He was sure Rogers couldn't be that stupid. He was maybe a coward, but cowards were too scared to go against him. Martins made a mental note to find this little bastard working behind his back.“He's in confinement.”“Confinement ? What is he doing here, he should be at the infirmary.”Martins gritted his teeth. “He became wild when we brought him here, we had to do something.”“And they couldn't sedate him instead of letting you throw him there with stab wounds in the healing process ?”Damn it ! Martins was never fond of the man but appreciated his lack of concern for guards' business. What was his damn problem then ? He was never one to care about this shit. He was barely getting involved with inmates.“He was representing a danger for the staff.” The warden glared at him but didn't argue anymore.“Get him to the infirmary, I don't want any problem with this deputy's worker putting her nose everywhere.” The warden sat down eventually and passed a hand on his balding head. “I thought you're smarter than that Martins. After what happened to Miles.”Martins felt like strangling the man for his insult.“You shouldn't have get him out of the hospital by force.”“It wasn't by force. He was scheduled to come back a week ago, but this girl used some bullshit to hold him back. She's at wrong here, not us. No one will look into the matter sir, don't you worry about that.”The warden stared at him intensely. Martins could see the wires working in the man's head and knew he had him. The guy was so easy to manipulate. As long as he could avoid trouble, he didn't mind about the rest. That was what he appreciated in this boring man.“I hope for you she won't get her way here.”“Or what ?” He said, grinning, and the warden's face redden again.“What are you saying Martins ? Are you defying my authority ?”“Of course not sir. But I hope you still remember where you stand, for your own sake.”“Are you threatening me ?” He hissed through gritted teeth, and Martins smirked.“I remember Alvarez. Liu. Shozik. Kim. Chelighan. Harrison. Rahik.” Martins' grin only grew wider. “Falon.” He said, enjoying sincerely the way the man paled. “It would be regrettable if anyone had to question your involvement in these close cases, don't you think, sir ?”The Warden trembled visibly with a fist tightening on his desk. “Martins.” He growled low in his throat, and the guard smirked.“Why don't you do as always and let me take care of the matter. It'll be over soon, don't you worry sir.” He stood up and walked away, satisfied.“Martins !” The man sounded shallow and Martins loved that.Stopping at the door with his hand on the handle, he looked over at the man with a small smile tugging at his lips.“Don't make it drag. I want him gone before this girl brings us more troubles. I talked to her, she's as determinate as her brother.”Martins snickered. “Mun was just a bitch. Never learned where his place was.”“Mun is still alive.” The warden said sternly. “He made wrong decisions, which I hope you won't. Just deal with it, I don't want to hear anything about it again.”“Alright sir. Have a good day.”* Only two days had passed but Ellie was already on the verge of losing her mind. No one wanted to listen to her, and when someone was eventually allowing her some time, they didn't have the power to help her out. It was beyond frustrating. It was enraging, and Ellie wanted the head of too many people by now.How was she supposed to work if everyone was closing doors in her face. The worst was she didn't even know how Lee Minwoo was doing. The guy could be dead and she wouldn't even know it. She was sure Eric would hate her if such thing was happening, and she was doing her possible to get to the man and assure herself he was okay. As okay as one could be in his situation. She couldn't get in touch with anyone though. Even the warden who seemed so inclined to help her at first was now playing dead and ignoring her every phone calls. Maybe she should just show up at the prison and get her way inside. She doubted she would manage much with such reckless behavior, but she was getting desperate for something to work.If only she wasn't so alone in the matter. It was a phone call Ellie wasn't expecting anymore. A long lost friend, a revolutionary journalist and always ready to fight against the system heard about her case and wanted to help. Ellie couldn't really remember the last time her and Tim had met, but he was a good guy -a bit too brutal in his way to deal with injustice, but society needed people like that, when all it had was corrupted bastards closing their eyes on everything getting them nothing.“You can't imagine how happy I am you called.” She said, sitting on the man's couch in his apartment on the fourth floor.Tim smiled and offered her a drink. Once comfortable, they started talking and catching up on some time.“I don't want to be rude, but could we talk about the case ?”Tim laughed. “Since when is Ellie Mun worried about being rude ? That's like your trademark, girl.”Ellie glared and grinned.“I didn't remember you knew me so well.”“You didn't remember I even existed.”“I'm sorry about that. I thought you were somewhere far fighting the whole world.”Tim smiled sincerely. “I was, for a certain amount of time. Then I figured it could be good to begin from the start and make things better in my own country.”“So you became a revolutionary.”“It's not as bad as it sounds.” He said and they laughed. “I'm fighting for people's rights, it's not my fault if the government wants to make my movement sound like some kind of terrorist organization.”“It's the least you could have expected from them.” She said, sipping on her drink, and Tim nodded.“I should consider myself lucky I didn't disappear so far.”Ellie laughed. “That's indeed a good thing already. How are things working for you ? Are you getting anywhere ?”“Well, it's an arduous road we're working on me and my friends, but we're having some impact, somehow.” The look on Tim's face turned serious. “I'm hoping with your case to eventually make things move. I've my connection and your story could be all over the web in no time.”Ellie sighed deeply. “Where were you all this time ? You should've contacted me sooner.”Tim smiled. “Melissa's friend with your secretary. She heard about it only recently. I hope I could have helped sooner, but now I'm here, and I'm gonna do my possible to get these people to justice.”* “Your brother is stable. His vitals are good and we believe he may be waking up anytime soon by now.”Ellie couldn't believe what she heard. This week was definitely her lucky one. First Tim and now Eric. She started believing all this mess will have a good outcome, even if she didn't like to be too optimistic with such matters.“We noticed new cerebral activities. I think your constant presence at his side helped. Keep talking to him, touching him. It'll help him come back, somehow.”“I don't have much time here, but my mother will be back after lunch.”The doctor nodded. “I talked to her already. I hope I'll bring you even better news soon miss Mun.”Ellie smiled. “You've done so much already for us Doctor.” She offered her hand he took gently. “Thank you very much.” She squeezed the man's bigger hand and flashed a sincere smile.* The pain wasn't that bad by now. In fact, Minwoo wasn't even sure anymore if he was hurt or not. His skin seemed to be freezing cold, but his body was completely numbed and making it impossible for him to really know. The too many beatings and other tortures were finally getting on him, and he couldn't tell if his lack of sensation was just an after effect or if his mind was slowly shutting down. Quite frankly, he didn't care. Minwoo had never felt that good in a long time. The passed few days, or maybe weeks, or months -he couldn't even tell, were a living nightmare, so he was glad for the eventual rest.Minwoo didn't like to remember about everything he had went through (again) but every time he was closing his eyes he couldn't prevent the images dancing in his mind and bringing him back where he didn't want to be. The pain was feeling real when the memory of his torment was playing on replay in his head, and on too many occasions he didn't know what was true or not.Sometimes, he was startling awake believing someone was here and hurting him, at others, just in the middle of some kind of painful event he was drifting away and believing he wasn't there. It was a weird experience.Alone in this dark cold room with nothing on his back to protect him, he could only curl on the floor in hope to get some warmth. It was useless and by now his skin felt as good as frozen. He couldn't get any warm anymore and if at first it felt like another torture in itself -now he was too beyond caring.Minwoo wasn't sure if it was what death was like. He couldn't remember much from his past experience excepted the sensation of being at peace. He liked it, actually. He liked to forget about the pain and fear and rage and hatred. He liked to be able to think about nothing but what felt good.He maybe didn't have many happy memories, but the little he had were enough. They were soft on his mind and bringing such comfort that he could lose himself in them and never wake up.Ok, will you believe it if I was telling you I completely forgot about this chapter Haha... Ha... ha.Well, I did. Next chapter is done and is for now the ending. But said ending calls for more questions and a Prequel I need to write more on before updating Mountain Soul last chapter. I'm worried I won't manage to finish the prequel if I rush things (again) and am not careful in my updates. So yes, Mountain Soul is finished in my file but I'll wait some time before updating it because of the reasons above.Anyway, I hope you liked this chapter and people are still reading this xD I hope too the chap doesn't feel too rushed. It wasn't my intention if yes, but the conclusion is coming and I don't feel like writing all the little details about the procedure involving Ellie and her doings (this fic was meant to just be pure fun for me to write with no real worry but to do whatever I wanted lightly). Mountain Soul turned out more serious than first planned, and I don't mind, but I couldn't write everything I wanted either (I'd plans for the other shinhwa characters and their backstories and development, but it didn't happen =(( ). Well, as always, thanks for reading guys !
