Mountain Soul PART 2-1 (1/1)
PART 2-1 His new cell was on the second floor, and his cellmate was a kid barely legal. He wondered why they gave him such cellie after throwing him with Lens, but then, he could not complain about it either. Some peace of mind would not hurt, and if not for the fact he had to see a fucking counselor from now on, he would have relaxed on his top bunk. The kid was wary and nervous around him, and he was not sure if it was because of his new found reputation or other personal reasons. Minwoo would admit he was not the most welcoming looking guy, but he was not that bad either. As long as people were leaving him alone, he was a cool guy. Most of the time. "You've got some paper ?" He suddenly asked, sitting up in bed to look at the kid jumping on his feet at the second his voice arose in the little room. "Huh… yeah. I…" He rummaged in his stuffs on the table before handing a paper to him. Raising a brow, he looked up at the fidgeting kid and said, "Pen ?""Oh, yeah !" He was back with the asked item the next second, and nodding his thanks, Minwoo leaned his back against the wall to write. He was not sure what to put on this paper, but he knew his cousin would not mind whatever content his letter would have. After all, the younger man just wanted to hear from him and be sure he was still alive, nothing more. It was great to have someone caring about him, but Junjin was most of the time burdensome instead of helpful. He wanted too much to make him proud and was often involving himself in the stupidest things ever. How many times did he have to save his ass from being caught or killed since their teens ? Minwoo had lost count but knew it was too much. However, now he was in prison he was worrying more than he wanted about his cousin. He had not heard from him for a while when he was arrested, and some were saying he was banging some chick somewhere in the north and was heels over head for her. Minwoo thought it was great if Junjin was finding someone good for him, but he knew his younger too much to believe any girl could get him in line. While writing his letter, he wondered where he was supposed to send it. As mentioned previously, it had been a while since the last time he had heard from his cousin, and it was not now he was in prison he would know better where to find Junjin. Sighing, he finished his letter and folded it before shoving it in his pocket. Checking the time on his new found watch (thanks to the kid who had a spare one when he was transferred to his cell) he jumped off his bunk and waited for the door to open for free time. It was the only occasion they had for a phone call, and trying to remember the wanted number, he got frustrated when he could not recall it perfectly. Hearing the alarm rang, he stepped to the door and waited for it to slide open. As he stepped through it, he heard the noisy melody of the block and headed down the stairs. He was still trying to remember if the last numbers where seventy-two or sixty-nine, therefore, he did not notice the looks on him and walked straight to the phones. Inmates were already waiting in line when he arrived, and stopping behind a tall big black guy, he got annoyed with himself because of this damn number. Each phone calls could not excess five minutes, and when his turn arrived, he composed the number and hoped at each dial tone it was the right one. "Yeah ?" Answered a well known voice, and grinning, Minwoo relaxed. "Hey old man. Say, I need Jinnie's address. I heard you had it.""Minwoo ?" Shot back the man known as old man (just because he was nearing forty and behaving like a grandpa) "What the hell happened you little shit ? I heard you're in jail." Minwoo gritted his teeth then sighed, "Yeah, I'm in. But I don't have time for this. Just give me his address." The old man grumbled and fumbled with something before speaking again, "You're at Mountain Soul ?" He asked and Minwoo confirmed. "I'll come see you." "Whatever old man." He grinned back, kind of anticipating a visit from the guy. "So, what about this address ?" He asked, the piece of paper and pen already in his hand. The old man gave him his cousin's address before adding, "You better leave him alone. He's making a good life for himself." He warned, and Minwoo felt a warm feeling engulf him at such news."Really ? That's great." He was genuine and smiling sincerely, even if the old man could not see him. "He knows I'm in ?" He asked then, putting back his usual cold mask. "Nah. He's not been around lately, which's great for him. The kid deserves a good life." Minwoo scoffed bitterly at this. Because, who did not deserve a good life ? Him too would have liked to have one, but life was life, and he was not one to bitch about what he had or not. "Yeah. If you've him over the phone, tell him about me. I'm sending him a letter, but you know… It'll be good if he was hearing about me before receiving it.""Yeah, yeah. No prob boy." The old man paused then asked. "How're you doing in here ? You're good ?" Minwoo was expecting these kind of questions and said, "Yeah, I'm fine. What about you ? I didn't see you in ages." "The ol' same boy, the ol' same. My leg's killing me, but it's fine." He waited and asked. "You're in for how long ?" "Fifteen." A silence passed, and Minwoo could feel the heaviness of it. "You killed a cop, right ?""Yeah." His voice turned severe. "I heard stuffs about what happened." Minwoo bit his bottom lip at the information. He knew rumors and facts would be spreading after his arrest, but he did not want to hear about it. "Look old man. I need to go." He answered, glancing at the men waiting and observing for some the ones on the phones. "I'll get in touch with you." "Yeah. You better little shit." Minwoo grinned at the words and hung up before stepping away with his letter in hand where he had scribbled Junjin's address. He knew the zip code. It was in the north, near a quiet neighborhood. Seeing this, he could not help smile at the thought his cousin was doing good on his own. At such fact, he hesitated about sending him the letter, but then, Junjin was the only family left he was in contact with, and he deserved to hear from him even if now he was living well. Stuffing the paper and pen in his pocket, he headed back to the stairs he climbed effortlessly. Once back in his cell, he noticed the kid was gone for the time being, and he wondered where he could be. He was not his concern though, so he quickly forgot about him and looked for a new piece of paper he used to write a new letter to Junjin. *** When three pm came and the prisoners were walked outside, Minwoo could not wait for the moment to come. It was like it had been forever since he could enjoy some time out, and stepping in the colder day than usual, he did not even mind it and relived in the feeling of fresh air filling his lungs. "You know…" He heard near his ear and glanced up at his new cellie following him closely. "There's rumors circulating." He added as they walked around the yard. "And ?" He asked, disinterested. The kid licked his lips and said, "Well… I heard some guards had a grudge against you.""It's old news, kid." He grinned back, looking at the inmates wandering around. "No, I mean… Something's up." Minwoo noticed the heaviness of the boy's words and considered them for a moment. He had felt at the moment he was brought to the police station how cops were behaving around him. They were not trying to hide their disdain and hostility, and when he had arrived at Mountain Soul, he had felt the same things emanating from most of the prison guards. It was not surprising (every law suckers were hating a cop killer) but on this day, Minwoo had not felt anything different than a week ago. Maybe he was not around enough to notice it, and his little show off on his first day followed by the one with Lens could explain the rumors the kid had heard. He did not know, but he did not ignore the information either. Looking around, he spotted some guards and wondered how many of them were out to get his head. What could be plotting these bastards ? He could not tell just with a quick look, and feeling wary now he knew about this, anger bubbled at the pit of his stomach. "You okay ?" The kid's voice snapped him out of it and with a glance up, he snickered."Of course." Resuming his walk around the yard, he felt this familiar boiling emotion known as anger spread inside him. It was slowly nibbling at his insides and making him restless. He knew some work out or exercise would have been of a great help, but with his broken wrist and still aching shoulder -and stab wound- he could not do any physical activity, and at such fact he growled. "Say !" He spoke up, glancing at the kid still walking with him. "You can get me a smoke or something ?" "Huh, yeah. Of course." He watched as the kid jogged away and smiled to some group being more friendly than expected with the boy. Minwoo had thought he was an easy prey around the prison, but he seemed to have more than thought to back him up. "Here." He grinned, handing him a cigarette, and glancing down at it, Minwoo accepted it before lighting it immediately (with the kid's lighter). He really needed to get his own circle of acquaintances and contacts soon, because he had nothing for the right moment besides the clothes on his back -and even these were not really his-"You've a group ?" He asked after a couple of minutes, and the kid nodded. "Yeah. My uncle's part of the mafia. I've protection thanks to him." Minwoo eyed the boy and thought it was explaining why he was still untouched in such place. Prisoners were too scared to try anything with the kid, which was great for him, he guessed. "I heard you're a cop killer." He said then, and Minwoo froze with the cigarette between his lips. Looking up at the kid, he saw him gulp. "I… sorry. I'm being noisy. I was just wondering, you know." He did not answer anything and resumed his walk around the yard with the kid in tail. Why he was following him like this he did not know, but he would not complain for now. The kid was nice and getting it easily when he was getting over the line. Besides that, it was the very first contact he was making since stepping in Mountain Soul, and it felt great. Hope you liked it ^^So he's a new cellmate and this chapter was calmer than in the first part. Don't get too cozy though and remember I am writing this story xDAnyway, thank you for following and supporting this story, and next chapter you'll have the very first interaction between Eric and Minwoo =D
