Mountain Soul PART 1-3 (1/1)
PART 1-3 After the fight in the yard and three days in confinement, the guards and inmates started looking at Minwoo differently. He could feel some kind of hostility coming from both side, and saw respect and curiosity in others' eyes -which made him proud- However, he was sure a couple of prisoners now wanted his head. He presumed these men were the four others' friends, and he hoped they would not come at him so soon out of confinement. Despite how crappy his cell was, Minwoo would like to spend a night in it. Even if Lens was freaking creepy and making his skin crawl. After three days in confinement, he would rather be with the man than on his own for so many hours. He had too much time to think and too little opportunities to get ride of his frustration and anger. Doing push ups and sit ups had helped, but it was not enough. His bandaged hand was a good proof of it, and if punching the wall had sounded like a good idea before doing so, he knew now it was stupid. But it was stronger than him. When the anger was bubbling up and taking control over him, he needed to punch something (which was often too hard surfaces for his hands). It was not the first time he was hurting himself like that, and it would certainly not be the last either. When he entered his cell, Lens was sitting at the small table writing some letter. His cellie looked up at him when he arrived and watched him until the door slid shut in his back. Minwoo stood still as the man observed him another second before speaking. "I heard you were quite the fighter." He commented without emotion before resuming his previous activity with a focused expression on his face. Minwoo furrowed his brows at the man before deciding to ignore him and get himself a cup of water. He was feeling sore and tired after his three days in confinement, therefore, he was not as wary around Lens as the first day. Which might have been a mistake when he suddenly felt the man in his back just as he was about to fill his cup with water. He froze and listened in an attempt to know what his cellie had in mind. It was fruitless considering even when he could look at the man he could not figure him out, but it did not stop him from trying. The man stood tall behind him, and he hated it. He was feeling too small when people were seizing the opportunity to come that close to him, and avoiding such situation was always his main focus. He could not help curse himself for letting his guard down just because he was feeling a bit out of it. If he had not, Lens would not be in his back breathing on his neck. In another kind of situation, like in a confrontation in the street, he would have lashed out immediately, shoved the man away and punched him bloody. But at the right moment, with a man like Lens in his back, he had no idea how to react. He did not want to trigger the man, but he did not want to let him think he was scared either. Therefore, he gathered his courage to speak. "You put it back at its place." Said Lens before Minwoo had a chance to speak, and startled, he needed to look down at the man's hand on his to understand what he was talking about. "I tidied up the cell when you were gone." He could hear an underlying threat in the words, and licking his lips in growing nervousness, he hated himself for ending in such vulnerable position. "So don't mess it up." He finished, breathing on Minwoo's neck another spreading second before eventually stepping away to sit back at the table. Releasing the breath he did not know he was holding, Minwoo relaxed slightly and glanced over his shoulder at Lens writing his letter as if nothing had happened. He realized at this right moment he hated such habit. It was leaving him on the edge, which he hated. He did not know where to stand with his cellmate, and it was another thing frustrating him. Blinking, he looked back at the cup in his hand and eventually filled it with water. He was not that thirsty anymore, but it was more out of reflex he did so than anything else. Once done, he was not sure where the cup was before taking it, and getting nervous, he tighten his grip around it before gritting his teeth in growing annoyance.Fuck it !Putting the cup wherever he thought was good, he ignored Lens and went to his bed to lay down. He was tired, but he could not sleep with the man around. Therefore, he just lay down on his back with an arm on his eyes, ready to defend himself if he had to. He heard the man move -even if the noise was almost inaudible- and tensed up. He knew without looking the guy was certainly putting the cup back to the chosen place, and controlling his breathing, he waited for the man to come to him. He was expecting Lens to get angry at him for not listening, or to try to strangle the life out of him, but he did not have time to know which assumption was right that the alarm rang and the doors opened. The guard's shout for breakfast echoed in Minwoo's head and made him growl inwardly. Hearing his cellie walk passed him, he decided to stay in bed for some rest. Turning on his side to face the wall, he kept his arm on his eyes to shield them from the too bright light. "4809, what are you doing ? It's breakfast." Snapped the guard, and the sound of the baton hitting the cell bars was disagreeable in his ears, but he did not comment on it and just lay on the bed. "Lee !" Called the man impatiently, and Minwoo waved his hand dismissively. "Not coming." He answered in a low, unmotivated voice, and feeling the warder stare at him for a second, he was glad when he eventually walked away. He heard him shout he-did-not-need-to-know-what to the other inmates before the alarm was sounding once again to announce the closing of the doors. When the cellblock eventually quieted down, he relaxed for the first time and allowed himself to sleep. Breakfast seemed to last not long enough, and startling awake as the alarm rang, he growled low in his throat and shifted his position on the bed to face the cell before sitting up with a rub of his eyes. He would have liked to sleep some more, but he did not have much of a choice, and he rather be tired than taken by surprise. Lens spared him only a glance when he stepped in the cell and headed to the shelf where he picked up his toiletry kit before grabbing a towel and a clean t-shirt. After that, he looked over at Minwoo and eyed him."You're not going to shower ?" He questioned, but it sounded more like a threat in Minwoo's ears. "What ?" He answered, a bit groggy from sleep. Lens eyed him again before saying, "It's shower time, and you've spent three days in confinement." He did not need to hear more to know the man was implying he was stinking, and (even if it might be true) it annoyed him. Therefore, his gaze turned dark. Lens ignored it and started taking Minwoo's toiletry kit and towel before stepping to him. Stiffening, he was not sure what he was expecting and felt stupid when the man just dropped his stuffs on the bed before taking a step back. "You should change your clothes too." He said before the guards were shouting for the inmates to line up for the showers. Lens spared a last glance to Minwoo before walking out of the cell. Left alone, he clenched his fists and hated the man for being such a creepy controlling bastard, and grabbing his toiletry kit then towel, he went to the shelf for clean clothes before stepping out of the cell. He told himself he was going to the showers just because he needed one and hated to be so dirty; but somewhere at the back of his mind he knew it was because he did not want to trigger his cellmate he was locked up with at night. Being gutted because he did not want to take a shower when he was stinking would be a stupid death, and he knew he could swallow his pride to avoid such thing to happen. Exposed. It was the only word he could think about when he stepped in the showers where too many inmates were all at once. He was never tall or overly build, and he never minded it because he had learnt to use it at his advantage, but now he was in the showers, naked, he felt kind of self-conscious. However, he did not let it show and walked confidently to the first free spot he found. The faster he would be out of here, the better it would be for him. Opening the water, he could not deny it felt good to finally wash the filth away. After sweating so much over the past three days without being able to take a shower, it was almost heavenly to have one at the right moment. Of course, it would have been more enjoyable if not for the other inmates around him. But he still appreciated it. Stepping out of the showers room with a towel around his waist, he noticed he was one of the first done, and not wanting to waste anymore time here, he headed to the bench where his clothes were. He was not sure why he did not notice something was wrong before he was pinned against the cold wall with a shive pressing at his side. Gritting his teeth, he went rigid in fear of being stabbed and did not try to struggle against the hands holding him. It was only then he realized it was too quiet in the room, and wondering where the warder could be, it was not long before he understood he was set up. "Here's a little present from our pal Mike." Hissed the man behind him before shoving the shive in his flesh. He gasped in pain and shut his eyes tightly before trying to get free from the hand holding his wrists. Whoever holding him was too strong though, and trying to breathe through the pain, he cried out when the shive was yanked out of his side. "Bitch." Spat the man, ready to stab him again, and shutting his eyes, he waited for the pain to come, but nothing happened. When he opened his eyes, he realized the hands on him were gone, and pushing himself off the wall, he looked up at the man standing beside him before glancing down at his attacker on the floor. Widening his eyes at the sight, he looked back at Lens staring down with cold blue eyes at the bleeding man. He needed a few seconds to understand what just happened, and spotting the little shive jabbed in the inmate's neck, he had a hard time to believe his cellie had just saved his ass. "You say a word, and you're dead." Threatened Lens, and the other inmate crouching at his friend's side nodded fervently in fear. "Let's go." He added, grabbing Minwoo along with his stuffs before dragging the shorter man out of the room."Wait !" He tried to stop his cellie, but he was ignored. "Wait !" He growled, freeing his hand from Lens grip, and in the process he almost lost his balance. Looking over at the shorter man, Lens eyed him then observed the hand he was pressing on his bleeding side. "We'll take care of this in the cell." He said, and Minwoo's eyes widen. "Wait !" He tried again, but Lens's grip was strong this time and did not let him a chance to get free. "Be quiet !" He answered in a calm, low voice. "And put these on." He added, giving him his clothes before getting dressed too. Minwoo stared at the clothes in his hands with a blank mind before doing as told. Maybe it was the aftershock of being stabbed, but he was suddenly more compliant to whatever his cellie was telling him. Other inmates were leaving the showers when Minwoo and Lens stepped out, and blending in the middle of the crowd, they headed back to their cell where Lens grabbed a towel he pushed in Minwoo's suit to press it against the wound."Lay down in bed !" He ordered, pushing him on the bottom bunk. Stunned, Minwoo could not say or do anything but follow what was told to him. The fact Lens had saved him something he still could not believe nor assimilate. "The block's gonna be on lockdown soon." He announced, standing at the door to survey the surroundings. "I'll take care of you after that." He was not sure why the words made him feel like he was about to be killed, but swallowing around the lump in his throat, he was in no position to say anything to the man who had just get him out of a life threatening situation. The pain was blinding besides that, and even if he was accustomed to fights, it was a first for him to be stabbed. Which hurts like hell.
