A Flower Crown (1/1)

A Flower Crown Jamie310 38420K 2023-11-01

Jaebum dreams of Jimin.  The scene is familiar. A memory that somehow comes to be interwoven with bits of fantasy. Junior is by his side, as he always is and Yerin walks towards them with Jimin trailing behind her. It is their first meeting he remembers. JJ Project and Jimin that is. She introduces herself and the older boy can feel Jinyoung melting beneath the warmth of her smile. His response is not as favorable he recalls as he watches her face fall when their eyes meet. He feels the regret settle into his bones. The need his current self has to console her rather unsettling. Though it is his dream he is incapable of doing anything to remedy the sadness that now swims in her dark eyes. All he can do is watch her. Slowly the memory begins to unravel and Jimin seems to change before his eyes. Her round face is maturing, her hair grows longer and lightens and lightens until it becomes a beautiful golden blonde color. Her expression loses its childlike innocence and suddenly she is twenty years old instead of fifteen. He tries to speak but nothing comes out.  He awakens. XxX Jaebum’s eyes flicker open. He sits up and finds Jinyoung staring down at him. “It’s time to wake up.” The younger says already fully dressed for the day.Jaebum nods, pushes his covers aside, and begins the search for something to wear. As he rummages through his closet he can feel Jinyoung’s eyes on him.“Were you having a bad dream, hyung?”Jaebum pauses for a moment considering the question. Was it a bad dream? Not exactly but it had left him a bit unsettled.“No, not particularly. It was more of a memory than a dream…”“A memory?” The younger sounds rather curious.“Yes. Of meeting Jimin for the first time.”“Ah, Jiminie? No wonder you had that guilty look on your face when you woke up. If I remember correctly, you weren’t very nice to her at first.”Jinyoung chuckles and sits down on his leader’s bed.“I wasn’t that bad…” Jaebum mumbles pulling out sweat pants and a t shirt. But he doesn’t bother arguing further. He exits the room and walks into the bathroom closing the door behind him and turning on the water allowing it a few moments to heat up. As he waits he thinks of his dream once more. What a random dream to have...Perhaps it was because of her recent coming of age? But that had been months ago, he remembers going to a flower shop with Jinyoung and picking out bouquets for his dongsaengs. There had been flower crowns on display as well and Jaebum recalls one in particular catching his eye. The blossoms had been a color that sat precariously between purple and blue interwoven beautifully with white pip berries on a dark brown vine wire. It had looked utterly unique among all the pinks and yellows and whites. Jimin had come to mind but Jaebum had not bought it. Not wanting to make it seem as though he favored her.He steps into the shower and lets the warm water soak him completely. He had regretted it afterwards when he saw the small package Jinyoung had gifted her along with his own bouquet of roses. Her eyes had lit up as she had unwrapped a small box and pulled out a lovely cashmere scarf. Jinyoung had held out his arms and Jimin had fallen into them smiling brightly. The young man feels a flare of heat beneath his skin. Yes, perhaps the dream had been caused by his lingering feelings of guilt. He shampoos his hair and begins massaging his scalp. Maybe he would pay the flower shop a visit during his break later and see if they still had that flower crown. He can’t help but smile to himself as he pictures the look on Jimin’s face when he gives it to her.  XxXSeveral hours later their dancing teacher calls an hour break and Jaebum puts on his winter coat, mask, and hat as he heads for the door. He has just grasped the handle when he hears some shuffling behind him. Yugyeom stands there dressed in a similar though admittedly flashier version of the ‘uniform’ Jaebum wears.“Where are you going, hyung? Can I come with you? I’m really bored.”Jaebum hesitates though he doesn’t know why. It’s not as if he is doing something wrong but still there is a strange desire on his part to keep this little venture for himself. He ignores it. As the oldest he does his best to not deny their youngest anything if he can help it.“Let’s go then.”XxX           The flower shop is a glass case of blossoms. The air is crispy and cool and perfectly perfumed. He smiles at the handsome young man behind the counter and walks slowly around the shop, Yugyeom following closely behind.          “Hyung, why are we here? Is it someone’s birthday?”          “No, there’s just something I saw the other day that I wanted to buy. Hopefully it’s still here.”             “What is it hyung?” Yugyeom asks curiously.          Jaebum hesitates for a moment before answering the younger man. “A flower crown.” He responds quietly and makes his way to the far wall where he can see them sitting on display on the wide window sill.           There are quite a few lined up neatly but Jaebum’s eyes go immediately to the violet ring of flowers that sit at the very end. He smiles and picks it up carefully. He ignores Yugyeom’s inquiring glances as he walks up to the front counter and watches the cashier box up his purchase. The box is a pretty mint green and Jaebum smiles. Jimin loves green.          XxX          The two boys arrive back at the practice room just as their dance instructor is returning. Jaebum places the box carefully on the long bench that sits alongside the far wall of the room. He takes his position on the dance floor, forces everything out of his mind and moves until his limbs become too heavy for him to lift. By that time the dance instructor has bidden them goodnight and the members all lay tired on the dance floor. Jaebum hears the door open and sits up though he would much rather lay flat against the cool hardwood. He sees Jimin walking towards them and suddenly he feels rather energized, as though he’s bitten into an orange.           “Whoa,” She remarks softly as her dark eyes sweep the room. “you all look exhausted.”           Bambam groans from his place against Jackson’s shoulder. “Dancing does that to you, Jiminie.”          The girl merely rolls her eyes at the smart remark and turns her attention to Yugyeom who now stands at her side attempting to peek into the bag she holds in her hand. The girl sighs and reaches into the plastic bag. She pulls out a clementine and hands it to the now smiling boy.          “I just finished shooting my music video and one of the staff gave me some fruit. There are strawberries and peaches too.”          The members gather around her and she scoffs good naturedly as the boys argue over who gets what. Jaebum watches on silently from his place on the floor. Finally, Jimin decides to hand the bag over to the starving males and steps away. She turns and catches sight of Jaebum. She smiles as she approaches.          “Oppa, why are you on the floor? Are you really that worn-out?”          Jaebum shakes his head not wanting to worry the girl but still a frown pulls at her mouth.          “Did your dance teacher not give you a break?”          “He gave us an hour break.” Yugyeom cuts in walking towards the pair, a peach in his hand. “But hyung said he had to go buy something at the flower shop. So, he didn’t really get to rest too much.”          Jimin looks to Jaebum curiously as Jackson laughs.          “A flower shop? Does hyung have a girlfriend?”          For just a moment Jaebum thinks he imagines it. The slight dulling of Jimin’s bright gaze but it is only an instance of doubt. He picks himself off the floor and walks over to the wooden bench beside the wall. He has seen that look before both in reality and in a hybrid of dream and memory.           “I don’t have a girlfriend.” He states firmly as he draws closer to where Jimin stands and hands her the box.          She blinks up at him with her pretty eyes and Jaebum gives into the desire to pinch her cheek.          “It’s for you Jimin-ah. Open it.”          She tilts her head smiling just a bit and pulls the green top off the box revealing the indigo flower crown resting in a small nest of white tissue paper.          “Oppa,” She begins eyes sparkling. “it’s so pretty.”          Jaebum chuckles, feeling rather pleased with himself. He takes it carefully out of the box and places it on Jimin’s head.          “You’re an adult now Jimin-ah. Oppa is so proud of you.” He says softly pushing her blond hair away from her face and brushing his lips ever so slightly against hers so that it is more like the suggestion of a kiss rather than one in actuality.            There is a hush over the room now but Jaebum can hardly find it in himself to care. Not when Jimin’s eyes have gone glassy and soft and she’s suddenly hugging him very tightly around the waist.          Jaebum smiles beautifully and rests his chin upon her hair loving the sight of indigo blossoms in golden hair. The boy feels as though flowers are blooming in his heart. He sighs at the feeling. He longs to give it a name. Maybe someday he will.XxXHey guys I hope you enjoyed this.
