"Who in the world thought of placing a potted plant at altar?!"
Ahra wailed vehemently, her voice drenched in pure distress as Hannah hurried to assist her daughter. Sungmin shot his younger brother a sharp glare as the boy tried to stifle his laughter at the sight of the bride-to-be sprawled over the carpet,"This isn't funny Sungjin!" He hissed loudly, praying to heavens that Kyuhyun hadn't heard the little gremlin giggling or else he would be mortified.
Kyuhyun let out a airy chuckle at his elder sister's face which was now steadily turning into a shade of beet red as she was being fussed all over by their concerned mother and an even more concerned fiance.
"I'll be right back," He whispered softly to Sungmin, who was seated on his left.
Kyuhyun quietly motioned to the wedding planner and exchanged a few reassuring words with the distraught lady. After making sure that the wedding planner had understood all of his instructions, he nodded and then made way towards Ahra.
"I guess Humpty dumpty had a great fall?" Kyuhyun sang teasingly as he walked closer.
Hannah turned towards her son with a frown," This isn't the time for you to make fun of your sister, Kyuhyun!" She scolded him.
Kyuhyun chuckled and with a shrug of his shoulders spoke simply," I was just making light of the situation, Mom." He then turned towards Ahra, his heart constricting at the sight of his elder sister's red cheeks, now soaked in tears of embarrassment and humiliation.
"Hey hey hey," Kyuhyun said softly, clutching one of Ahra's hands and holding it close to his chest. Ahra sniffled and looked miserably at her baby brother through her watery eyes.
"What's got you all worked up, Noona?" Kyuhyun questioned gently as he wiped away the couple of tears that threatened to fall from the corner of her eyes.
Ahra's lips wobbled as she tried to mumble out an answer," Everything is going wrong Kyuu, everything!"
Kyuhyun quietly motioned a waiteress to fetch him a bottle of water while he wrapped his arm around his elder sister and led her towards the endless rows of chairs.
"I fell Kyuhyun, on my own wedding rehersal! Do you know how embarrassing it was?!" she wailed.
"What would have happened if I'd done that during the actual wedding?" Ahra covered her face again, feeling mortified just from the very thought.
"You said it so yourself Noona," Kyuhyun's eyes turned gentle as he continued to speak," It's called the rehearsal so that all the tiny mistakes and accidents done now can be taken care of well before the wedding ceremony. A few potted plants are nothing we can't take care of, right?"
"But what if I- "
"No, you won't." Kyuhyun spoke firmly but kindly. "And even if you did do anything embarrassing, I doubt it would stop Yesung hyung from loving you any less," He nodded at the anxious man crouching near his fiancée.
"Of course it wouldn't!" Yesung was quick to respond while he squeezed Ahra's hand comfortingly.
"I wouldn't hold it past you to fart or burp in between taking your vows, hyung," Kyuhyun spoke teasingly.
"Hey!" Yesung exclaimed making the others laugh," I would do no such thing!" The man protested vehemently. Even Ahra seemed to have been considerably cheered up after that little joke.
"What are you guys still doing here?" Ahra wiped her lingering tears away and smiled,"we have a wedding to rehearse!"
"Thanks for helping, Kyuhyun." Hannah whispered and kissed her son's cheek affectionately as the taller man stood up alongside his sister.
"Always," Kyuhyun squeezed his mother's arm gently before walking towards the row of seats where Sungmin and his brother were seated.
Needless to say, the rest of the wedding rehearsal went on pretty smoothly, a couple of modifications here and there but nothing too big. Sungmin smiled warmly as Ahra walked down the aisle elegantly, the bride wasn't wearing her wedding gown for the rehearsals since she didn't want her fiance to see her dress before the wedding; old traditions and all.
"Are you alright Kyuhyun?" Sungmin whispered to the man standing beside him. Sungmin couldn't help but notice that Kyuhyun had gone very quiet all of a sudden, and he wondered why.
Now that he thought about it, Kyuhyun had been rather quiet since their outing last night. After Kyuhyun had agreed to go out with him, they had driven to the nearest shopping complex so that Sungmin could pick out a wedding present for the happy bride and groom.
In his haste of tying up loose ends at work and chaperoning Sungjin, it had completely slipped off his mind. And what could possibly be better than having Kyuhyun accompany him in his quest of choosing the perfect present?
"I'll be okay, don't you worry." Kyuhyun offered him a small smile before standing upright and walking towards the exit of the auditorium, leaving a very worried Sungmin behind him. "Hey Sungmin hyung, Jin and I are going out to the beach, you wanna come with?" Sungjin bounded up towards his elder brother, with his right arm looped into Jongjin's. Sungmin threw a short glance across from where Kyuhyun was heading and then nodded solemnly,"Yeah, I'd like that." "Alright hyung, we'll meet you there?" "Sure Jin," Sungmin answered absentmindedly, his gaze fixed on Kyuhyun's form, "you guys go ahead, I'll be right there." Sungjin beamed and then steered his boyfriend towards the door to the auditorium,"Don't miss the Jeju Sunset, Sungmin hyung!" He called out gleefully. Sungmin smiled,"I won't! Now off with you!" After bidding the two teens goodbye with promises to catch up with them later, Sungmin slowly made his way to the exit after offering smiles to Kyuhyun's parents and his. His eyes gazed across the length of the garden, but there wasn't any sign of Kyuhyun anywhere. A frown etched across Sungmin's face, it seemed like Kyuhyun had disapparated completely. "Sungmin!" A voice called out to him, making him turn around with a smile. "Hello, Ahra Noona." "How have you been my little dough puncher," She smiled brightly, enveloping her arms around Sungmin's for a gentle hug,"You know with the hustle and bustle of the wedding, I totally forgot to tell you!" "What is it Noona?" Sungmin asked with an amused smile. "I tried your recipie to bake some muffins the other day, and they came out so great. I owe it all to you, Sungmin!" Sungmin smiled bashfully,"I'm sure it was all your skills, Noona." "Oh nonsense, it would have been a catastrophe if I hadn't recollected your instructions the other day," Ahra said with a small blush,"You remember what a walking disaster I was that day!" Sungmin threw his head back and laughed heartily,"Well then, I'm glad to be of your assistance Madam," He saluted smartly, earning a squeal from the older woman. "You're absolutely adorable, Sungmin! I can't wait to see my brother's performance with you during the gala," Ahra remarked with a delighted smile. "You and me both, Noona. I hope we're able to pull it off," He chuckled, albeit a little uneasily remembering the spills and the falls of the dance rehearsal. "Of course you will! Kyuhyun has some secret dance moves that'll send everyone crying." Noona laughed heartily, "it was nice catching up with you, Sungmin." Sungmin nodded with a small smile as she continued on to say,"I hope we can talk more over a meal soon! There's so many things I've been dying to talk about with you." "I look forward to that as well, Noona! Good luck with your wedding tomorrow," Sungmin wished her with a smile as he hugged Ahra again. "Thank you Sungmin, now I must be off! We have a family dinner in an hour's time, if you see Kyuhyun anywhere can you remind him about it please?" She pleaded. "Of course, I'll make sure we'll be there on time." Sungmin promised, before taking leave. He continued to walk along the interiors of the garden, keeping a close lookout for Kyuhyun. "Kyuhyun?" Sungmin murmured slowly, his eyes finally landing on a solitary figure at parapet. He walked towards the man in a few quick steps and placed his palm over Kyuhyun's shoulder cautiously. Kyuhyun jumped, startled before pasting a small smile over his lips,"Oh hey, Sungmin, didn't see you there." "This place sure is nice,"Sungmin smiled, breathing deeply into the crisp air of the evening. The parapet overlooked the beach, and he could see Sungjin chasing Jongjin in the distance. Sungmin smiled. "Do you want to join me at the beach?" Seeing Kyuhyun give him a reluctant shrug, Sungmin coaxed him,"Come on it'll be fun, from what I've heard the Jeju Sunsets are quite a sight to see." "I don't-" Kyuhyun turned to look into Sungmin's eyes, and then promptly sighed in defeat looking at the pair of eyes twinkling at him. Sungmin grinned as Kyuhyun walked beside him as they climbed down the flight of stairs that lead towards the beach. With the grainy sand gravelling underneath their shoes and the cool air of the approaching evening ruffling through their clothes, Sungmin and Kyuhyun walked towards the blanket put up by Sungjin and Jongjin and took seat. "Well? Isn't this nice?" Sungmin smiled, drawing his legs close to his chest as he sat contently watching the ripples and waves of large expanse of the ocean, stretching as far as the eye could see. "Yeah, it sure is" Kyuhyun murmured softly, pulling his legs to sit in Indian-style. "Will you tell me what's on your mind or will I have to beat it out of you?" Sungmin said all of a sudden. "I've been told I'm good with my hands, so it's not a problem." "What?!" Kyuhyun spluttered out as Sungmin's eyes widened. "I didn't mean it like that!" Sungmin protested, blushing hotly as Kyuhyun threw his head back and laughed heartily. "Wow, I didn't expect to hear that from you now," Kyuhyun chortled. "Shut up already, stop being so embarrassing!" Sungmin objected, elbowing the taller man away with a laugh. "Thanks for that, I needed it." Kyuhyun shot him an amused smile. Silence enveloped them again as their laughters slowly died down. Sungmin turned towards Kyuhyun and spoke in a serious tone, "You wanna talk about it? I'm here if you want a ear," "It's nothing, Sungmi- " Sungmin gave him a look and Kyuhyun relaxed his shoulders with a sigh,"It's a little silly, really." Seeing Sungmin looking up to hime expectantly, Kyuhyun said,"You know how we went out last night?" "Yeah? Thank you for accompanying me to buy the wedding present by the way, I hope Noona likes it," Sungmin smiled, his dimples creasing in beautifully. "It sure was fun," Kyuhyun agreed with a smile. "What's on your mind, Kyuhyun?" Sungmin asked quietly. Kyuhyun exhaled and then with an emotionless laugh said,"Everything seems so real, you know?" "The wedding rehearsal today the guests, the tuxedos and the dresses; the flowers..." Kyuhyun trailed off wistfully. Sungmin looked at his companion patiently as he continued,"My sister is getting married. Married!" "In less than fifteen hours, I'll loose her completely and I'm not ready at all, you know? Don't know if I'll ever be." Kyuhyun said with a bitter chuckle. A small smile spread across Sungmin's face and then he put his palm gently on the visibly distressed man's shoulder," You're not gonna loose her, Kyuhyun. She will be Yesung Hyung's wife but she will always be your sister. You will always have her, alright?" Kyuhyun didn't respond but simply chose to look towards the rippling waves of the sea beyond the beach. "Fifteen years ago," He breathed as Sungmin scooted closer towards him, "Ahra was dating a boy who was five years elder to her. There was always something about him that unsettled me but I chose to not to pay attention to it, after all Noona's happiness should matter the most to me, right?"Sungmin nodded. "But I was wrong, so wrong." Kyuhyun shook his head bitterly. "Just in a couple of months, Noona turned into an entirely different person. It was such a slow change that none of us saw it, not until it was too late." "She started wearing sweaters with long sleeves and avoided talking to us, becoming so quiet and surpressed, and I never realized what was happening." A wave of fear overtook Sungmin's heart as Kyuhyun paused to take a shaky breath. "Yesung Hyung and I have always been close friends since high school, you know? Our class ended early that fateful day, so we got to come back home three hours earlier than usual. And when we reached home do you know what we saw?" "Ahra Noona's boyfriend was assaulting her, they were fighting and yelling on the top of their voices. He had his filthy hands curled on her shirt, and Hyung and I could see red nails marks all over Noona's arms. I was so shocked, I hated myself for not speaking about my intuitions and Noona looked so scared, Sungmin." Kyuhyun buried his face into his palms with a distressed sigh. Sungmin placed his arm around Kyuhyun's shoulder and squeezed him gently, hoping the action would convey his feelings. Kyuhyun threw him a grateful look before continuing, "I completely froze, Sungmin. I didn't know what to do at all, too stunned to do anything whereas Yesung Hyung just charged at Noona's boyfriend. The guy was caught unaware and Hyung managed to land a solid on him before he started fighting back. After punching Yesung Hyung, he turned towards my sister and when I saw he was about to attack Noona, it was like something in me snapped." "I knew it was now or never, so I charged ahead and then punched him with all my might." Kyuhyun shivered violently at the unpleasant memories, "Noona managed to pull away from the guy and call for help and the police had him locked behind bars. We had to have a restraining order issued against him." Sungmin looked positively horrified at the turn of events,"I'm so sorry, Kyuhyun." "I've hated myself for so long, Sungmin. I should have been able to protect Noona better, I should have been able to prevent this from ever happening," Kyuhyun spoke dejectedly. Sungmin shook his head violently," No, you absolutely can't blame yourself for what happened Kyuhyun!" He exclaimed, "you were just a teenager Kyuhyun, and you did the best you could. If there's anyone at fault here, it's the chauvinistic jackass who decided to take advantage of your sister." "You're right Sungmin, but I should have been able to -" "Don't say that," Sungmin spoke gently, "you were so brave Kyuhyun, I am so proud of you. You protected your sister and she's alive and so blissfully happy, that's all because of you!" Kyuhyun's eyes softened at Sungmin's words and he squeezed the man's hand gently, thanking him. "I worry about Noona even today, Sungmin but if there's anyone I can trust to look after my sister, it's Yesung Hyung. He has always been there for her, after the incident he never left her side. It turns out Hyung had a crush on Noona even before she started dating her ex-boyfriend." Kyuhyun spoke with a chuckle."The sly bastard never told me!" "I'm glad that they have each other, but it's difficult you know?" Kyuhyun admitted, "letting go of someone you've loved and admired all your life?" "Ahra Noona is never gonna leave you Kyuhyun-ah," Sungmin murmured gently, "she will always be there for you, and Yesung hyung will take good care of her. You know that right? They're one of the most well suited couples I've ever known." "I know that, but this doesn't" Kyuhyun sighed exasperately, placing his palm over his heart, "this heart will always worry." Sungmin smiled," We can't help but worry about the ones we love but sometimes, we have to let go of the doubts and the fears, no matter how much it hurts us in the process and you have to know that you'll always be a part of her life, no matter what happens. Ahra Noona will always love you Kyuhyun." "Thank you," Kyuhyun murmured gratefully, as they stood up slowly dusting away the sand clinging to their clothes."You're a good friend, Sungmin. I'm glad to have you in my life." He spoke before bringing his arms around Sungmin's shoulders for gentle hug. Sungmin tensed at the unexpected contact but then soon relaxed, melting into Kyuhyun's warm embrace. The yellow and orange hues of the setting sun illuminated the entire beach, creating a cozy atmosphere as the serene waves of the blue ocean rippled against the sand. "Oh!" Sungmin exclaimed as they suddenly found their feet wet with the rippling waters of the ocean. Kyuhyun laughed into Sungmin's neck, squeezing the man softly before letting go. "The tide's coming in, we should probably head back now." He spoke with a smile as Sungmin stared at his now wet feet. "Come on now, " Kyuhyun urged him after Sungmin shivered as the cool evening breeze ruffled through their clothes, "we don't want you to catch a cold now, do we?" Sungmin rolled his eyes, "I'm not that weak, Kyuhyun!""Sure you're not, little dough puncher " Kyuhyun said teasingly. "I'll show you puncher!" Sungmin yelled as Kyuhyun laughed and fled ahead, leaving Sungmin behind on the beach. Sungmin jogged after the man with a smile, and slipped his fingers into Kyuhyun's hand. Kyuhyun seemed surprised for a second but grasped Sungmin's hand tightly, comfortable silence settling amongst them as they walked back towards the resort. "You have a family dinner in twenty minutes, Kyuhyun." Sungmin said when they arrived at the lobby of the hotel, "I should probably head back to my room to check up on Sungjin, he did get soaked earlier at the beach," He shook his head lightly with a smile. The elevator tinged, reminding them of it's presence as they regretfully withdrew from each other. "I'll see you there then?" Kyuhyun asked, sounding hopeful as Sungmin stepped into the elevator. "Really?" Sungmin asked sounding surprised, "you want me there?" "Of course, you're family." Kyuhyun smiled warmly as Sungmin stared at him with an open-mouth. Before he could reply, the elevetor doors closed leaving him alone inside the metal box. "Family?" Sudden warmth filled into Sungmin's cheeks at those words, he was surprised that he actually liked the sound of that. ***"You may now kiss the bride." Sungmin beamed and cheered as Ahra and Yesung brushed their lips together for a sweet kiss. The wedding was indeed beautiful, Ahra made a stunning bride with her white wedding gown with a pretty lace designs and Yesung in a handsome tuxedo with Kyuhyun as his best man. Ahra's worries and doubts all vanished the moment she stepped on the aisle. She laughed tearfully as Yesung's eyes filled with happy tears the moment his eyes landed on her. Her heart felt light, blissful and warm, she knew that Yesung was the right man for her and that she was just walking towards an entire lifetime of happiness. Ahra hugged her little brother tightly and sobbed as Kyuhyun murmured softly,"I love you Noona. I wish you all the happiness in the world." She chuckled as Kyuhyun clapped her husband's shoulder with more force than necessary and heard Kyuhyun murmur, "If you hurt her I will break you Hyung. Best man or no best man, that's my promise." As Yesung hugged Kyuhyun tightly, her eyes landed on Sungmin in the crowd of guests. Ahra waved and mouthed a thank you to the man while Sungmin just smiled warmly back at her. As she slipped her fingers into Yesung's hand, she noticed her baby brother seemingly searching for someone in the crowd. Ahra laughed as Kyuhyun's eyes visibly brightened upon spotting Sungmin and she shook her head lovingly. She would do everything in her power to make her two adorable stupid boys realize that they loved each other. But for now, Ahra was satisfied with holding her husband's hand and watching her brother finding his own way to love. guess who's back? *waves a white flag and steps out of her cave with a cautious smile* m style="font-size:14px;line-height:1.6;">it's been such a long time since i updated this, how are you guys doing? i do hope you're well and that you enjoyed reading this little update! *^* if you want me to continue writing chapters to this story, do let me know in the comments >//< i'm not sure if there are people out here still reading or am i just talking to myself ._. anyway thank you for reading! this fic is on 99 votes and i'm just :o !! you guys are amazing! thank you for all the love <3 xoxo
