Itll Be Fun (1/1)
“C’mon, unnie…it’ll be fun…” She can’t see it, but she knows that Seulgi is putting on her best pleading face behind her, brows knitted together with that pathetic pout Joohyun’s always been a mess for. Ever since their schedules freed up, Seulgi’s been offering to do this so-called ‘laser tag’ game with her even when Irene hoped she’d either be sleeping or doing laundry instead. Where this sudden urge came from, she didn’t know, but what she does know is that Seulgi would not shut up about it if it meant spending quality time together again—and what could Irene say to that? Irene mulls it over, ponders whether or not the company would allow them to go out in public freely again even after promotions and whether the five of them had enough days to enjoy their free time before being busy again. After all, three free days is a luxury to Irene and she doesn’t understand why spending it spontaneously with laser tag is a productive idea. Her thoughts cut short when she hears Seulgi whining. Whining. At that point she finally turns around, turning off the stove with a heavy sigh. “Seulgi,” Irene finally says. “How exactly would it be ‘fun’? Don’t people often get injured in those types of games?” “It won’t be dangerous if we wear gear,” Seulgi offers. “And come on, I’ve always wanted to try it ever since Jisoo recommended the place to me and I want you to come along unnie. We can invite the other members and play as teams against each other!” Irene scoffs. “Are you sure you want Kim Yerim holding you down at gunpoint?” Seulgi hesitates a little. “Well, you know what I mean…I thought it would be fun since our schedules…and you…with…games…” Irene looks up and notices how Seulgi trails off, eyes on the ground as if she was ashamed she even asked. She slumps on her chair and Irene thinks that maybe Seulgi is second-guessing herself again. She can’t have Seulgi be like that. Irene should know better than rejecting something Seulgi would enjoy doing since her intentions were always so pure. She pauses to reconsider, just to make that tiny ache in her chest go away. “What’ll we do about teams?” Seulgi jerks at the question. “Huh?” “Teams,” Joohyun repeats, softly. “There’s an odd number of us.” “Oh…” Seulgi thinks. “It’ll be okay. They would allow three v. two teams and if that’s too biased then one will keep score.” “Then it’s settled.” Irene drops her chopsticks on the table with a thud. Seulgi looks down at the chopsticks and back up at Irene. Then the indescribable twinkle found in Seulgi’s orbs appeared again and Irene knew she made a good choice. “So you’ll go?” Irene grins. “Yes,” She says, bearing a different kind of twinkle in her eyes. She pulls Seulgi close to her and whispers almost threateningly in her ear. “But I’ll be the one who wins.” *** Shit Shit Shit Shit Why did I even suggest this? Her watch beeps and signals the beginning of round two and Seulgi swears that she’s never been this scared in her whole 25 years of existence. Her team — with Wendy and Yeri (although Wendy got eliminated during the first round by Irene) — is down by 40 points and one member, mostly because Seulgi spent most of her time evading Irene’s sniper-like shots aimed directly at her. I mean, who was she to know that Bae Joohyun was also great at aiming a freaking gun? “Unnie!,” Yeri screams beside her, snapping her out of her thoughts. “Stay focused or we’ll die!” Both Yeri and Seulgi are crouched in hiding, although unlike Seulgi, Yeri doesn’t seem to be as intimidated by Irene and Joy taking cover on the other side, plotting on whom to shoot next. If Seulgi wants to make it out alive she’ll have to outsmart them somehow, but she has no idea how. But for now, she needs to focus. “Sorry, okay, I’m focused. I’m focused. How about we—” “WATCH OUT!” Seulgi felt her back against the far side of the wall when Yeri pushes her out of the way from a laser beam directed at her, but by then it was too late since Yeri was out in plain sight, metres away from the nearest cover spot. Joy took advantage of this and peeked out from her spot, landing a clear shot on the target plastered on Yeri’s centre. Yeri’s target changes colour, as well as
