Let’s move out

to a higher place"  BTS ㅡ Move.  Jimin wasn’t used to the smell of gasoline and street foods. Looking out the rainy car window, he examines the beautiful Seoul city life. He’s lived all his life in the country where his father was a painter and his mother worked at a porridge restaurant. It was all exciting and exquisite to him, it frightened him deep down inside. The fluttering inside his stomach and the slight shaking of his knees took a part to his mood. He sees flashes of colors, the raindrops creating blurbs of the people running or walking down the streets. He makes a note to bring his camera next time; everything was too beautiful not to capture.“Jimin, I know this may be a little difficult for you now, but I know you’ll do well,” his mother gently caresses his knee trying to comfort him. She knew all of this moving and city life was so new to her son, she felt sorry that she had to make him adjust to everything so quickly. Jimin wasn’t the most social child growing up. He enjoyed reading and drawing in his sketchbooks rather than going out to the park with his friends. He didn’t have many friends. Teachers called almost every month offering a meet with the school’s social worker, but she knew deep down inside, Jimin didn’t need that. She knew how kind and smart her son was. His social life didn’t determine who he was.6 years later today, as she sits next to her son comforting him on a rainy day, she knows he’ll do just fine. “I know mom. I’ll adjust to everything, soon.” He gives his mother a reassuring smile. Before he realizes it, he gets out of the car to be greeted in front of an apartment complex. It wasn’t too small or too big. Jimin felt a sense of home, something cozy. He took in a deep breath. That’s more like it, isn’t it? Instead of the gasoline and street foods, this time he smelt the crisp air of Autumn and chestnut cake. He readjusts his scarf and walks up into the apartment and moves up from the elevator. His mother and father unpack the boxes in the living room and he unpacks the boxes in his room. He takes the boxes labeled “JIMIN” and open them one by one. Inside he sees the memories and the aroma of his old home coats every belonging he owned. Tears prickle inside of his eyes, not because of sadness, but because of how much he misses his old life and how he has to start a new life he’s totally oblivious of. He spreads the bed sheets over the mattress, puts out photos and anime figurines over his desk and stuffed animals next to his pillows, and hangs up his favorite band posters. He stands back and takes a last look at his room then closes his door. His mother waves him over to the small living room to have dinner and he sits down and thanks her for the food. “So, you start a new school tomorrow,” his father starts, “how do you feel?” Jimin honestly didn’t know how he felt. “I’m excited, I guess.” He chews on the spoonful of rice and looks at his father shrugging. His father rolls his eyes and chuckles. “You’ll make new friends, honey. Don’t worry one bit, okay?” his mother puts some side dish in his bowl and his father nods. A new school. It shouldn’t be too hard, right? He thinks to himself. Just some studying and making a few friends here and there, or maybe none at all. He sighs to himself and walks to his room and slumps down on his bed. So much for having a good start. The next morning Jimin wakes up early to catch the bus. He throws on his uniform and brushes his raven black hair; shaking it a little to help it find its place. He quickly puts on his white converse and writes a note to his parents that he’ll be off to school now. He ties his tie while in the elevator and double checks then triple checks how he looks. First impressions are so important. He puts on his earphones and walks to the bus stop kicking stones along the way.Bus rides were his favorite. He always took them when he had to go to school back in the country. He lived quite far away that he couldn’t walk there. He admired the different shades of green and nature as they swept by. He had the chance to be observant. He particularly enjoyed looking at people on the bus and coming up with theories of their lives. He would sometimes draw in his sketchbook of different people. Using all different kinds of shades of colors. He enjoyed drawing long hair of women because the stroke of the pencils felt like streams of water at the beach when he ran it across the blank pieces of paper. Or sometimes he journals a little. He would write what he thinks would happen that day and on his way home he would write another entry; comparing how accurate or inaccurate he was. It was a daily routine. Truly comforting. And today Jimin did the same. He drew in his sketchbook, but instead of trees or nature, instead of a woman’s long locks, he drew a boy who sat across from him. He caught Jimin’s attention. His sleeping figure, slightly slouched. The posture reminded him of his home; a tree he used to climb up and stay in whenever he wanted to cry or whenever he wanted someone to talk to, he went there. He’d talk to the slouching tree as if it was alive and as if it was always listening. The boy’s hair was a unique color dyed blond. He’s never seen an Asian that fit blond hair so beautifully. He’s never seen an Asian with blond hair ever in his life until now. It was a pale yellow, almost white. But, when the sun reflected the strands of his bangs, it would revert to a light shade of gold. His hands sketched and danced around the one blank piece of paper that was soon to become a work of art. Not because he drew it, but because his subject was so beautiful. The unknown boy’s head rocked side to side. Jimin couldn’t tell if it was because of the music he was listening to or if it was him stirring in his sleep. He looked back to his sketchbook. The once blank canvas was filled. It was like the trees in winter that are stripped of their leaves but once Spring came, they would blossom with bright greens. Jimin smiled to himself and got off the bus. Hello everyone, I hope you enjoyed the first chapter. I used Move by BTS as this chapter's song. Because not only is Jimin moving on physically, he's also moving on and maturing emotionally and mentally. This song spoke to me for this chapter and thought it was too beautiful to not add in. I'm not the greatest writer out there, but I hope you'll stick around to see my writing mature throughout the further chapters. Again, thank you! and I hope you enjoyed. Comments are always appreciated, so please do comment! I love feedback; negative or positive. Also, if you haven't already.. Please subscribe! :-) x
