Chapter Forty-Three (1/1)
Chapter 43Throughout dinner, Minyoung’s mother repeatedly calls Mingyu her prospective son-in-law and keeps putting more food into his bowl. Minyoung and Minyoung’s dad could hardly stand Minyoung’s mother’s greed and obsession over her rich potential son-in-law and was rolling their eyes throughout. “Omma, it is getting REALLLYYYY late. I think Mingyu needs to go home now. We still have school tomorrow morning.”, Minyoung tried to find a way for Mingyu to escape the clutches of his greedy prospective mother-in-law who was now badgering him about his net worth. “You’re right, our Mingyu needs to go home and have an early rest. There is school tomorrow. If he rests well it means he can have the energy to do well in school, right?”, Minyoung’s mother’s voice turned sickly sweet as she helped her son-in-law up from the tatami mat and swept the dust off his shirt with her hands. “Mingyu this way please.”, she showed him to the flight of stairs and personally walked him to his car. “Please remember to come again.”, she waved to Mingyu as he made himself comfortable in the driver’s seat. “Good bye auntie. Have a good night.”, Mingyu bowed again to Minyoung’s mother before zooming off into the darkness. As the car blasted off, Minyoung’s mother twirled around in circles happily as if she had struck gold, “My beautiful precious daughter, didn’t know you were such a gem to the Jang family! Your boyfriend is the richest successor in Korea! If you get to marry him, we will be able to lead a luxurious life for the rest of our lives!”Minyoung looked sadly at her mother. Her mother have never complimented her before. And the first time it happened was because she could potentially become the money making machine to feed her materialism. “Come dear daughter, let’s have some mother and daughter bonding time tonight. We will watch TV together and have a heart to heart talk.”, Minyoung’s mother took her hand and dragged her upstairs. As Minyoung quietly followed her mother, she grimaced in disappointment at her mother’s hypocrisy and practicality. Never had she ever bothered to spend 5 extra minutes getting to know her own daughter, but today she suddenly begins to “care” about her. Minyoung sat down in the tiny cushion next to her mother as they talked all night about her mother’s fancy dreams to travel around Europe, buy an upscale apartment in Gangnam, buy Dior, Chanel, Hermes and all the other ridiculous material things that she desires but doesn’t need. The only time she was even cared about by her mother was when she could potentially bring her a luxurious life, and that was her only value and worth in her mother’s eyes. Minyoung had always known that she was not loved by her mother, but being nothing to her mother for some reason was not as bad as being a money making machine because at least she was not being made use of. The pair of mother and daughter talked throughout the night and went to sleep in the wee hours. When morning came, Minyoung felt a disturbing presence inside her room and it strangely enough, began to send chills down her spine. As she opened her eyes, her mother’s face was hovering right over hers. “Good morning crown princess.”, her mother’s beaming face scared her. “OMMA.”, Minyoung yelled at her pale looking makeupless mother. “WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE IN MY ROOM IN THE EARLY MORNING?” “Hehe. I am here to wake my crown princess up. Hurry go to shower, I will make you a sumptuous breakfast.” Minyoung frowned at her mother’s rude intrusion. She bolted out of bed with her brows drew together, slightly annoyed. She walked into the shower crankily and put on her uniform. Her mother was waking her up for school waayyyy too early. As she stepped out of the bathroom, she could smell the aroma of seaweed soup in the air. She walked into the kitchen with her nose up in the air, fol
