Chapter 11: (1/2)
The phone rang three times before my blond friend picked up. He answered the phone with a great amount of excitement and I wondered if it was because he knew it was me. I hoped that at least.
“Hyuk, hey, do you want to come over? I want to do something with you before you leave for good.” I asked. Hyuk paused, leaving a silence over the phone. He seemed a bit nervous after the fact that I confessed to him only hours before.
“Can I come tomorrow? I’ll be leaving in five days.” he replied. I looked at the calendar that hung on the wall in my room. In two weeks, school would be over. Hakyeon arranged for all six of the gang to go to the beach together for three days after school ended and I then realized, it would only be five.
“Yeah,” I said, with a hint of sadness in my voice. We arranged it for tomorrow and hung up. I walked out of my room to find Hyomi leaning against the door, listening. I hit her lightly on the head and frowned. “Don’t eavesdrop.”
“I’m sorry, but I had no clue you like Hyuk! This is amazing, I…” she began ranting as she usually does. I stopped her mid sentence.
“He’s moving to Japan in five days, so it doesn’t matter.” I walked around her. She stood in the same spot, watching me then ran after.
“Is he coming over then? I would love to talk to him. Maybe convince him not to leave. I know you would like that.” I could tell she wasn’t about to stop talking anytime soon. I shook my head. I was thankful for her caring about me, but it just wouldn’t work out.
“Thank you, but I’ll deal with it myself.” I gave her a light smile and opened the refrigerator and pulled out something to drink. Hyomi pouted at sat down at the table by the living room.
“You seem really…”
“It’s fine, don’t worry about it.” I demanded. She nodded and put her head in her hands, thinking about something. I drank my water and watched her as she made faces, her brain working extra hard. I wanted to laugh, but held back. I went into my room again and fell asleep quickly, too tired to even think anymore.--- Hyuk came over around 9 in the morning on Sunday. I woke up only a few minutes before, so Hyomi answered the door. She was always up super early for some reason. I needed my sleep. According to Hyuk, he was bombarded with questions and I had to run and get Hyomi to move before she would scare Hyuk away.
Hyomi went into my room and left us to talk in the living room. I offered Hyuk some tea but he didn’t want any, so I sat down next to him on the couch. We sat there for a few minutes in silence, wondering who would say something first. At last, Hyuk began to talk.
“Yesterday, my mom told me you came to our house and asked her questions. She told me you seemed upset. Last night, I was talking with her and we both agreed that I could stay over here with you (if it’s okay with you, of course) until I have to leave for Japan. Do you mind?” he asked. I started to smile. It would be the best, actually. I couldn’t think of anything more perfect. I just hoped Hyuk wouldn’t grow tired of me.
