Chapter 9: And the story (1/1)

Chapter 9: And the story begins “Aish! Just pick something already! Can’t you hurry it up?! Everybody else is already heading back.” Jonghyun scratches the back of his head in frustration at just how long, and how many snacks Sooyoung plans on buying.“What? Who was it that said to wait 10 minutes? Plus, I still see Tiffany there, and I didn’t see the others come back from downstairs yet. Plus I’m still buying here. Geez! Just wait will ya? You old man.” She had murmured the last sentence under her breath, but not low enough that Jonghyun heard it.“What do you mean old man?!”“Just wait! It’s been only 5 minutes and here you are, PMS-ing. Get a grip will you!?” Sooyoung shoved a few of her snacks into Jonghyun’s arm since it was too many for her to all hold unto. But the feeling of Jonghyun’s skin touch hers made her jerk and for her snacks to fall on the ground.“What the hell is wrong with you?! You’ve been like that for the whole duration that we’ve been here.” Jonghyun and Sooyoung simultaneously crouched down to grab the snacks and their hands accidentally touched each other’s, making Sooyoung jerk her hand away, for the second time.Jonghyun didn’t notice Sooyoung’s hand jerk back as he was pissed off at the woman acting all clumsy ever since they came back from cleaning the school grounds with Jessica. She grabbed the rest of the snacks that were near her side and stood up abruptly, making her way towards the nearby bench while placing the snacks beside her. He did the same and dumped all her snacks into one big pile.“So, how long will be waiting here for?” She looked outside the window and glanced at the clock.11:57pm, the rest of the gang had been outside for five minutes, and Sooyoung thought that this plan of Jonghyun’s was a bad idea. Tons of inappropriate things happen at night, sometimes at midnight. And he was worried at the two people that the gang had left behind in the room, drunk and heartbroken. Soju helps you voice out your opinions, but sometimes, some others’ opinions aren’t really appropriate. That, and she and the girls need to go home. They had school tomorrow. Plus, it was dangerous for girls to be walking around Seoul at night. Or anywhere for that matter. The air between the two was silent. Nobody spoke, and minds were crowded with thoughts from the incident at school earlier on. “Hey! Move faster will you?!” Sooyoung shouted to the blonde-haired girl that was feet away in the back. She knew she wasn’t physically inclined but this was too much.Jessica just scoffed off Sooyoung remark and continued walking at the pace she already was.“Is she always like that?” Jonghyun and Sooyoung were both walking side by side through the halls.  He leaned in a little closer to the tall girl beside him as they continued on venturing through the worn out halls of their school.“Not really. She’s usually nice, and giddy. Maybe it’s that time of the month for her.” She had nonchalantly told a guy something she should be embarrassed about, but she wasn’t. It was as if it was normal of her to tell him that. But for Jessica, it wasn’t.“I am not!” She shouted, making the two turn back to look at her stopping in her tracks and acting like a spoiled brat, pouting at her parents just because she didn’t get what she wanted.“Aigoo... Ahahahahaha!” Sooyoung ran away from the steaming Jessica and all Jonghyun could do was look at her in confusion and ran behind her.“Get back here!” Jessica shouted at the top of her lungs and started speeding off towards the two.----------------------There they were, littered among the school grounds with each a broom and a dustpan in hand. Lee songsaengnim had just told them to clean the school grounds after they finished the second years’ building.“You kids cause trouble even on the first day. When will you grow up?” He sarcastically smiled at Sooyoung, his most ‘favorite’ student and Sooyoung smiled the same way he did at her. She apparently got his joke.“At least I’m physically growing taller.” She had said the statement too loud for her own good and now, here they were, cleaning the school grounds. Just the three of them.“You should have just shut your mouth up!” Jessica shouted into Sooyoung’s ear. Apparently, that broke Sooyoung up from her daydream of food.“Well he’s annoying!” She retorted back.“Who says he isn’t?” The two had stopped shouting at each other and had now started to talk normally.“Well, I couldn’t help it. So what if I’m tall? At least I could be a model.” She started striking some poses that Jessica just disgustingly disapproved of.“Or maybe a chef!” Jonghyun had bumped her and it sent her almost tumbling to the ground. Good thing for her long legs, or else she would have been kissing it already.“Yah! What’s your problem?!”“Just shut up and clean. This is your fault.” She looked back at Jessica, pouting at her as if she was asking for her help, but she glared at her in return. “You know it is ‘your’ fault.”“Fine, fine.” The three had started sweeping the school grounds when Jessica asked Sooyoung a question.“Hey, you ever found out who bumped into you this morning?”“Nope. Why? Aish! Why’d you make me remember?!” She stopped from what she was doing and pouted back at Jessica. The latter didn’t care and continued on with their punishment.“Just asking. I mean, it was your fault too anyways.”“Huh? You bumped into somebody this morning too?” Jonghyun halted from sweeping and turned to face Sooyoung as she nodded furiously at him.“Yeah! There was this guy who obviously saw me running and just bumped into me!” She flailed her arms around, showing just how frustrated she was with this morning’s incident.“You said too? So that means you bumped into somebody too?” He nodded at her.“What is it with people bumping into each other today?”“Apparently, people don’t know how to apologize when they bump into other people.” He turned back to proceed with the sweeping and Sooyoung did so too as she nodded at his remark.Jessica apparently knew who these two were talking about as it didn’t take a genius to figure it out.“WAIT!? You’re the one who I bumped into this morning?!” Both of them shouted at the other in unison as they turned around and pointed at the other.“You pabos...” She hurriedly walked away from the scene, but not purposely bumping Sooyoung that made her lose her balance and fall. She didn’t notice the scene she had just caused and went on ahead to move to another side of the school grounds to clean.Sooyoung was now on top of Jonghyun, and as cliché as it was, her lips crashed in his. Their eyes widened as the taste of the other’s lips were on theirs. The two both lied there, struck and dumbfounded, for almost a minute. They were trying to absorb the scene that was happening, as it seems unrealistic, but the truth was, it was happening. It was happening to them. The tall girl frantically stood up and started brushing her skirt, shirt and even her lips. Her mind wasn’t working, so all she could do was grab her broom and dustpan along with her and ran across to another part of the school grounds. With what just happened, who in their right mind would still be in their right mind? Nobody, and that was what happened to both of them as they continued on to sweep the school grounds, not really paying attention to what they were doing. Three people’s minds were in disarray: Sooyoung and Jonghyun’s about the kiss, while Jessica about her homework for tonight. She pushed the guy who was kissing him. They had been kissing for almost 3 minutes now with short, quick breaks in between. Taeyeon had snapped out of it and quickly recognized what they were doing, and she thought that it was wrong. Her brain said it was wrong, but her heart said it was right. Just right. As Taeyeon pushed Hongki away from her, he also snapped out of it and realized what had happened. He had just forcefully kissed Taeyeon out of jealousy, and with help from the soju and their friends. There was an awkward silence between the two for the next few seconds until Hongki cleared his throat.“Taeyeon...” He started of as he scooted over to get closer to Taeyeon but the girl still couldn’t process what had happened just now. Her mind was a mess when she broke up with Leeteuk, and it still was, and now, here she was, with Hongki kissing her like he had wanted to all these years. She remembered all the times and teases that her dongsaengs and classmates had made between her and Hongki but she never believed any of them. The guy would always deny it first, followed by her. She never believed any of them, all the more when she got her heart torn apart when she found out about Leeteuk cheating on her. She had decided to close her heart off and would never let in any guy. Except for Hongki. But she never really saw him as a guy. He was, technically, a guy but, she only sees him as a bestfriend. Nothing more. But now that it had come to this, she became to doubt all those teasings and talks her dongsaengs had had with her before.“Unnie. He likes you. It’s as obvious as night and day.”“Even though he denies it, he does.”“He does? Well, I never really noticed.”“Of course you do. You’re just always focusing on other stuff.”“Plus, why would anybody risk everything for a girl they don’t love?”“Cause we’re bestfriends?”“Still. Everything he does for you is out of the ordinary and uncommon, even if he IS your bestfriend.”“But still-““No buts. He likes you, and that’s it unnie.”She noticed him scooting over to her but she wasn’t ready yet. She was still hurt from Leeteuk and she still wasn’t ready to love another. Or was she?“Uh-This-You- I need to go.” She stammered as she grabbed her bag and her phone and ran out of the room. She left Hongki staring at her with eyes filled with confusion and regret. What was it that he regretted? The fact that he just kissed her, or that he didn’t act fast enough to tell her of his bottled up feelings? Jonghyun and Sooyoung unconsciously looked at the other as they both were reminiscing at the incident that happened in the school grounds. It was an accident, nothing more, but why were they both so disturbed by it? Especially Sooyoung?“What? Are you thinking about that?” She nodded back at him with a hint of red hue screening her face. She unconsciously looked at the other way as she was embarrassed at the next thing she was about to say.“That was my first kiss.”“What?” It was way too low for Jonghyun to hear. He leaned down, closer, to her so he could hear what she was about to say but he didn’t expect her to shout it out.“THAT WAS MY FIRST KISS! OKAY? YOU HAPPY?! YOU FREAKIN’ STOLE MY FIRST KISS! MY FIRST KISS! My...” Tears started falling down her cheeks as she tried to wipe them with the back of her hands. She was sniffing and all Jonghyun could do was look at her in wonder and confusion. He just couldn’t get why first kisses are important to girls. What was it about first kisses that made it special? It was because it was their first kiss? That’s why? He just couldn’t get it. He had his first kiss with some girl when he was still 9 years old, but it wasn’t really that magical or important to him like with the girl who was now crying her heart out in front of him.As much as Jonghyun didn’t care about it being her first kiss and that he hated the girl in front of him, he didn’t. He wasn’t that heartless and mean to just let somebody he hates cry in front of him and do nothing. He had a heart too.“Stop crying.” He said as he stood up and sat down on her other side, as her pile of snacks were in the way. He caressed her back, hoping that it would stop her from crying, but to no avail. She started sniffing and wailing a little louder than before that it could be heard from downstairs, heard by the others.Sooyoung was a tall, and somewhat boyish girl. But deep inside, beneath all that spunk and manliness she was raised with, she was, physically and at heart, a girl. She is a girl. She had long dreamt of all those love stories she had seen on dramas, when her mother and some of her SoShi sisters watch them. Especially Tiffany. Tiffany was the love addict in all of the gang. She had wanted to ask her how to grab boys’ attentions, since Tiffany was a natural at that. But her manly pride stopped her everytime she was to open her mouth. But even so, she had always hoped that one day, her prince charming would come and sweep her off her feet. Every girl does. Deep inside. And hers was really deep, deep, deep, deep, deeply hidden inside of her. And every girl hopes that their first ever crush, first love, first kiss, first saranghae, first boyfriend, would be their soulmate. But it was impossible in a world like this. And Seohyun would agree with her on that, if she had ever told her, or anybody of these hopes of her. But now, she thought that all she could do was dream. Not hope, dream. Her first kiss was stolen by somebody. And that somebody was a person she hated. She was okay with him, to be honest, but there’s this thing between them that makes them hate each other. Her first kiss was stolen by him. Nobody else but him. And it makes her furious. She wanted to shout at him, to get him to back off and leave her alone. She wanted to scream at him, wanting him to know just how unlucky she was that not only was she raised like a boy, had her heart rejected before by a guy because she was boyish, and she was tall like one, but he had stolen her first kiss. It was one of the things that she had secretly, and determinedly, been keeping for once her prince charming came for her. But it wasn’t her prince who took her first kiss but the dragon instead.Just as Sooyoung was about to shout at him for carelessly and comfortably caressing her back to soothe her, they saw Taeyeon with her bag slung around her shoulder, her phone in hand, and her face flustered and confused. And it looked like she was in a hurry as she didn’t even look at the two and proceeded to hurriedly go down the stairs and out of the noraebang. It happened so quickly that the two quickly got up and went down the stairs, seeing the rest of the gang dumfounded and confused as to why Taeyeon was in a hurry to leave.“What happened?” Minhyuk asked Jonghyun and the latter shrugged. And as if on signal, they all came rushing up the stairs and in front of the room they had rented for tonight. Jonghyun halted all of them by stretching his arms as wide as he can and stopped.“I’ll try asking him what happened. We don’t want him to feel insecure and make this into a big topic when it really isn’t.” They all nodded in agreement. He opened the door as carefully and as gently as he can, trying not to disturb or surprise Hongki. He went in and closed the door behind him as quietly as he opened it and saw Hongki sprawled on the couch, his right foot resting on the couch, the other placed on the ground, while he was reaching his hand out to the ceiling, looking at it as he spoke.“I kissed her.”Jonghyun didn’t expect him to answer at all without even asking, all the more with his answer.“I kissed her. I forcefully kissed her, but it was somewhat under the influence of the soju.” He stood up and sat down. He rested his elbows on his knees as he clasped his hands together and bowed his head down. It looked like he was praying, but was he really? What would he pray for? What would he ask for? For God to turn back time? For Taeyeon to give him the chance to explain? Or for him to have never met the girl, so that he wouldn’t be worried on how he should apologize to her?But to tell the truth, he didn’t like the thought of the third one. Even if he was suffering from unrequited love, this unrequited love of his had its advantages. I guess, was what he would always tell himself everytime that crossed his mind. But honestly, it didn’t. He suffered from constant heartbreaks and sleepless nights everytime he heard her talk about her days with Leeteuk: On how their dates were, or on how he was so sweet to her early in the morning, or on how they were planning on buying couple rings. He was so sick of it, that he eventually got used to all the sighs and silent breaking of his heart that happened almost everyday. He had gotten used to it.But deep inside, he hasn’t. He wanted to punch Leeteuk in the face, throw him in the Han River, and take Taeyeon away from him. But he couldn’t. He would if he could but he couldn’t. He knows just how happy she was she he was with him. Was. And now, he was so pissed off at how Taeyeon still couldn’t forget the guy even after a year had passed. They had broken up weeks before their 1st year ended and now, they were technically seniors. But she still hasn’t forgotten him. Forgotten to let her love go. For her to just forget and move on.“So...” Jonghyun said quite awkwardly, making Hongki break away from his train of thought.“So what?” He was pissed off. He was generally a guy that when came face to face with a problem, would solve and brush it off with a smile, but not this time. He stood up, grabbed his bag and made his way out of the room. The others were all bunching and leaning their ears on the door, trying to make out the conversation between the two, as if there ever were. They all jumped away from the door when they felt it opening, revealing a pissed off Hongki.Hongki took a few steps forward and turned back to look at his friends who were now giving him confused looks.“You should all go home. We still have school tomorrow.” He said with a sad smile and walked down the stairs, leaving his friends with worried expressions plastered on each of their faces.Jonghyun emerged from the room and everyone looked at him, waiting for him to answer the same question each had in their heads. What happened? He left the door opened and went inside the room while the rest of the gang went inside and closed the door, making sure nobody was around to hear their conversations. They all sat down and Jonghyun began to tell what happened. He felt really guilty at what he had done, and needed to fix this. It was his fault, afterall. If he hadn’t done his childish plan, then he wouldn’t have wrecked Hongki’s relationship with Taeyeon. He felt really guilty. And Sooyoung glaring at him wasn’t making him feel any better. It was as if the two had forgotten about the issue they were talking about minutes ago. After he told the story of Hongki and Taeyeon getting influenced by soju and the former kissing the girl, there was an air of silence around them but was cut off when Jessica gave one of her sarcastic, yet logically true remarks.“It’s all your guys’ fault this happened. If you hadn’t butted in, then this wouldn’t had happened.”Everybody who was involved in the plan hung their heads low, but not as low as Jonghyun’s. He was the perpetrator and this was his doing. He felt guiltier than everybody combined in the room. He needed to help fix this relationship of theirs, and sulking here wouldn’t do him any good in that plan of his.“Let’s go home.” He said and the rest followed, seeing that the atmosphere had turned from cheerful to sulky in a matter of minutes. They all took their bags and phones with them and made their way outside.“Want us to walk you guys home?” Jungmo, the considerable gentleman that he is, asked the girls as soon as they stepped out of the noraebang. The girls looked at each other, asking the other what they would answer.“We’ll just walk you home. Our dorm’s on the way to yours.”“Mine’s near theirs so I’m with them.”Everyone started waling in one direction, but with still the same air of silence crowding over the atmosphere. Everybody had something bothering their clouded minds, but Jonghyun and Sooyoung’s was the most. They all walked together in deep thoughts, and ventured quietly into the beautiful Seoul night. A/N: So, this is only Part 1.
